THE MASTERY OF MASTERING
STOP PRESS: DEAL WITH THE DEVIL.
Koch Entertainment, the large, forward thinking, independent label, have signed Los Angeles based hard rock group Circus Diablo to a worldwide exclusive recording agreement. The band is made up of Billy Morrison, Billy Duffy, Ricky Warwick and Brett Scallions. Matt Sorum played drums courtesy of RCA on the forthcoming debut album, which is scheduled for release July 3rd. Charles Ruggiero of Slunt, will be taking up the drum stool for the upcoming tour.
The band is confirmed for all 24 Ozzfest shows this summer, and will be adding headlining shows to their itinerary, along with Ozzfest partners in crime, Mondo Generator. More details to follow. Circus Diablo's first single "Loaded" is headed for rock radio in mid-May.
I am typing this from the mastering suite where Ricky and I are sitting – watching Dave Donnelly master the Circus Diablo album. After we finish all this tweaking, we arrange for Fed Ex to pick up all the mastered files and take them to New York ….. and that’s it. Album done, finished, mastered, tweaked and put to bed. How fantastic is that! Its taken quite a bit of focus, patience, faith and money!! But we managed to finish what we started and we get to move into phase two now – putting it all on the road. I have been videoing bits and pieces from today, so I am bound to edit up a V-Blog over the weekend if I get a bit of time.
We are definitely adding dates in and around the Ozzfest schedule and I’ll put them all up next week, along with all the other details I have. Suffice to say that we are all very happy, and look forward to seeing you all at a show. The two live pics are from a friend of mine (thanks Randy) who shot the Camp Freddy San Francisco show (in case you are wondering, that'll be me next to Joe Satriani!) and the one of Ricky and I is from a recent visit we had back to Matts place – Drac Studios – where we recorded two more Diablo tracks, just so we had extra (you never know when you’re gonna need a b-side, or something).
Dave and I are back together this weekend and we have Gilby Clarke coming in to hang with us – I am really looking forward to getting with Dave on Saturday. I only took one week away and it feels like a month!! I totally enjoy doing CFR and look forward to it every week. Tune in on 103.1FM or www.indie1031.fm on Saturday night from 6.00pm to 8.00pm West Coast time. That’s it – I have to go listen to what our record is sounding like - and from outside the door, it sounds LOUD!!! I'll go through the previous two or three posts and answer some of your questions on the V-Blog, so be patient and I'll get to them all. See ya soon.
Peace
Billy

Must be hard to hand over that package to a Fed Ex person. I think I'd buy a plane seat for it and fly it back myself.
Congrats on this next stage of the Diablo disc!

Billy's so busy. He doesn't have time for us anymore. Oh well... Trying to limit my cyber-chatting these days so I can finish my second book, Ghosts. I don't want to be one of those annoying people who never stops talking. They go on and on until no one's listening anymore. Then they end up talking to themselves...like a schizophrenic.

Congratulations Billy! It will be nice to have the boys back together on CFR. Dave can impersonate you really well. I'm wondering if sometimes you're not there and Dave is conversing with himself. HaHa

Forgot Blue October. I saw them in concert...in October. Justin Furstenfeld rocks. I love that man. When I googled them again, I found out there was a British band with the exact same name. I was talking about the Texas hard rock band. You haven't lived until you've heard "Hate Me" live.
You never really talked about what happened in Vegas. I guess what happens on the strip stays on the strip. Did you meet Gwen and Gavin and little Kingston?
[end of crap for this weekend, I promise]
Posted by: Francesca (Ghost) at April 28, 2007 09:29 AM
Billy, Ok, I'm showing my record production ignorance here but I'm curious: why can't you transmit the files electronically? Does it have something to do with the quality? I'm confused.
Congrats, though!
See (hear) you tonight on CFR..
Love,
Sue

Posted by: Beth at April 29, 2007 12:04 AM
AH HA! Koch Entertainment! Never heard of them but they are obviously SMART PEOPLE!
Yea, I'm with everyone else.....what happened to Jeremy?
Posted by: Robin (peebs) at April 29, 2007 12:37 AM
Well done Billy, it's good news. Rare to see someone stick in there with what they believe in and not take short cuts or influence from some fat assed executive. Can't wait to hear it.
Posted by: leroy at April 29, 2007 03:12 AM
KOCH .....I head of em same company as the second incarnation of slash's snakepit if memory serves right?
Big label ......i predict big things for CD but cmon billy.....what happened to jeremy-is he on tour with someone else?
Posted by: Paul at April 29, 2007 06:40 AM
Ok after doing a little looking into Koch Entertainment on the net (ecause I was unfamiliar with them) can I say that I am throughly impressed that not only did a NY based company sign you guys BUT the "headquarters" in literally in my backyard. Well the same area code, they are North and I am South in the county...but they are located in the "Gold Coast" of LI!!
WAY TO GO!

I heard Loaded on SRL last week-Love It!!! Cant wait to hear the rest!! Congratulations, patience is a virtue huh?-Niki
Posted by: Merc957 at April 29, 2007 08:48 AM
I know patience is a virtue, but where is my CFR? My church leaders used to tell me I'd become a menace to society if I didn't get married and have kids. But I think people can BECOME a menace to society BECAUSE they get married and have kids, like Alec Baldwin and Tommy Lee. (BTW don't waste your time at Tommy Lee TV. It's one of those experiences in life where you tell yourself, "I wish I could take it back." The money, that is.) Then there are those nasty hockey parents who keep beating up the officials who work at their kids' games. Then they wonder why there's a shortage of referees. Hmmmm

Francesca Goes to Hollywood
In other news, if you've been wondering why Hugh Grant has never won an Oscar, watch "Music and Lyrics". A dozen people left the theatre before this film was half over. I would've followed them, but the BF had the car.
If you want to see something that's worth your while, check out "Hysteria", the Def Leppard documentary. It's got great acting, a good story and awesome music. I love it to pieces. It's better than "A Hard Day's Night." Just my twisted, biased opinion.
[last post this weekend, promise]

I doubt we'll get "Loaded" over here. CJAY and Q107 probably won't pick it up. They never played TPC and RSN either. I only heard of CD and TPC on the net. Sad, but true. CJAY used to play JA, but not anymore.
