EASING BACK INTO THIS....

OK - so I am gonna ease back into this blog. I missed posting, but I had to take a break for a week, cos sometimes the "Entertainment Business" is anything but entertaining. It doesn't matter what went down, and it doesn't matter who did what, said what, to whom ...... thats all bullshit, and we move onwards. I intend to remain spiritually fit, emotionally strong, and above all, creative, loving, happy, content and greatful that I get to do so many exciting things in my life. I truly feel that just having had the opportunities and experiences I have already had in my life, that "my cup overfloweth!!!" - and with that ......

Tomorrow is a brand new CFR. And to make up for leaving so abrubtly last weekend, I will be taking the helm entirely tomorrow (unless Donovan finds his way into the studio) but I have a few interesting phone calls to make, and a TON of extremely cool music. I will also try and think up a cool competition or give-away, but don't hold me to that! Tune in and find out if I remembered to bring in a prize of some kind!!

Sunday is a website day, and i will be tweaking around in Final Cut, trying to edit a new V-Blog for you all, just to say thanks for all the concerned emails last week. I also have some updating to do elsewhere, as well as helping a friend get started with a site. Cue lots of coffee, and that familiar burning sensation in your eyes when you have been staring at a computer monitor for WAY too long!! I will also try and do a Q+A so ask away people - just don't bother asking "what was wrong last week?" cos I have already said that we are moving along!!

Monday and Tuesday will be spent compiling my music for the three DJ gigs I have coming up soon - a couple in Fashion Week here in LA, and then one pretty soon afterwards. I know that the professional cats in that world have the whole thing down, and show up with a laptop and thats it, but me?..... I am running OG!! I actually have to put in some time and figure out what music I wanna play!! I really should go learn that Serrato shit - they are all rocking that these days. Whatever - I will enjoy spending hours listening to great music and putting my sets together. I am really looking forward to the DJ stuff coming up.

Then its off to Miami - and Jen and I are going out early to get a bit of diving in before the rock and roll starts. One of the dives I have sorted out is a sunken drug runners boat!! They found nearly 200 kilos of coke on this boat and it sank in the ensuing chase!! I trust all the narcotics have been removed now! But in all seriousness, I love Scuba and love that I get to dive the Florida Keys - the marine sanctuary down there is amazing. And then, of course, its back to South Beach for some amazing Rock N Roll!!!

Thats it from me - a gentle re-entry into having my life posted up on this here world wide web for everyone to see. Hope you are happy I am back - I certainly am - and I will see (or at least hear) some of you on the air tomorrow night. Till then.....

Peace

Billy

Nice to have you posting again.

Have fun in the keys! You should also look into the florida spring system in central florida.

Sending positive energy...

Glad your back Billy!

My question is: Whats your position on downloading music from torrents or other sources that you dont pay for? Do you think its ok if the person goes and buys the cd afterwards deciding they liked what they heard or if they simply download it and never go and buy the cd.

Thanks
Kelly!

A proverb for you:

Support bacteria -- it's the only culture some people have!

And if you need a better one:

You can lead a fool to wisdom, but you can't make him think.

Nice to see you back

Welcome back.
Question for ya.
WTF is Serrato??

Posted by: DaveC at March 10, 2007 03:15 AM

Hey, we all need a break from things sometimes. Glad to see you easing back. It took me a long time to start doing what I enjoy doing with music. It's not everyone's "cup of tea" and for the most part it's been positive. There are times....haha. I never knew how tough the skin has to be.
You've got awesome things going on in your life and surrounded by those that love you. There will always be MF's to lay rain on the parade. I think they just don't know how to join the parade so try ruining it for everyone. Though in saying that, maybe you haven't heard what I do and if you did, you may throw buckets at me.
Sorry to go on and on here. Just leaving love and respect.
There is always pretending the buggers are standing in their underwear!
Keep up the awesome work, you really have done awesome things and some of us are jealous, haha. Envious a better term I suppose.

Much Peace and Horns up (and up the ass of those that deserve it too)

YEA!! Billy's back! Good to "see" ya!
Ya know....2 out of three of us got the emails from Bacardi that we had tickets.
The problem was getting a cheap flight to Miami (or Ft. Lauderdale). I almost had it down to flying in THE morning of the show and flying out Sunday morning (this way I didn't have board the cats just leave a huge bowl of food. They wouldn't even notice I was gone). That would have been totally RnR! But sadly due to finances... :-(
So a NYC Camp Freddy show...yea you know the drill!

If there is any place that can renew the spirit and recharge your battery in the world it's definitely the FL Keys! You and Jen will have a GREAT relaxing time. A very easy laid back lifestyle on those tiny Islands.

No questions today, just glad to see you back!

Billy! Welcome back. I am glad you are alright. I just hope you and Dave aren't in any sort of squabble. I dont want to speculate though without concrete info. As long as your health and marriage is ok..the rest will sort itself out. Thanks for posting that Bacardi link before all of this...I was able to get tix thru that lottery, and I am going to see the show. I am SO looking forward to it. Please talk about the details tonight on the show...I remember you said someting a while back about Lenny Kravitz joining you? Or did I dream that...Peace and Love, Slice x

Billy, glad to see you easing back into the world of the 'net. Glad to see you! Understand and can respect your need to work things out on your own and hope things are getting back on track.

Wish I had won mega millions so that we would be down in Miami next weekend for the Camp Freddy show, but alas, not meant to be! Hope to catch you at another gig in the near future (preferably one that does not require me to be on a plane!)

It's been almost a year since the Saturn party for the Auto Show when Camp Freddy played on the top of the Hard Rock marquee. Any chance of CF playing in NYC again for the auto show?

Have a great one and glad to have you back! We all missed you!

SO glad to have you back Billy!!!! Also glad to hear you are diving again. Q&A - what's the deepest you've dived? My brother got narcosis of the deep once, and was trying to buddy breath with a moray eel. not good. I've only been down one fathom... decided it wasn't for me.

Posted by: Kate at March 10, 2007 09:45 AM

Billy-
I have 3 extra tickets for the B-Live show.
Just wanted to put it out there- if anyone is in need or if you want to give them away on CFR. Don't know if we're allowed to do that- but I thought I'd offer.

And I'll see you there!!!!

Billy,
How did these DJ gigs come about for you? Do you inquire about the possibility of entertaining the beautiful people, or are your 103.1 skillz so respected that people line up to ask you?
Also, does your playlist include "thump-thump" music or is the focus more rock 'n roll smash-ups?

though i don't post often anymore, i am here every day for my billy fix... you were def missed, you have a lot of people here who love, respect and adore you. :)

A question about djing... I've noticed lately quite a few musicians doing djing gigs, just read that Paul from Franz Ferninand will be doing a couple and you too. What do you think it is that draws musicians to djing, besides the fun. :)

Opinions are like assholes. So here are several from one of the biggest:

Billy,

Just saw your video blog from a few weeks back, and I must say that I can understand your need to take a step back. You seem like a very sensitive, enthusiastic, big-hearted, open, generous, appreciative, motivated guy, with some very dear, dedicated and loyal fans (who will probably rip me a new one just as soon as I hit “submit”). But if I may, some well-meaning advice from someone who has been around the block a few too many times:

If your “day in the life of a rock star” thing was meant tongue-in-cheek, bravo, well done, you get it, but if not…

Enough with the tattoos that admittedly mean nothing, the overly zealous and excessive work out routines (even god rested on the seventh day for fuck’s sake). And yo yo yo Tupac, I won’t even go into the Big Brother/NAMBLA/Freud would have a field day shooting range episode with that poor child from the Osbournes. And the driving of the over-priced vehicle while video blogging??? Now I remember why I have to drive so defensively in L.A. -- there are rock stars on the road trying to drive and talk about themselves on camera at the same time! Stop trying to be Dave Navarro. The man wears makeup to the gym. I've seen it, it's disturbing. Don’t waste your time trying to emulate a bunch of guys who would attend the opening of a door for a bag of high-end toiletries and enough free publicity to gloss over the fact that they haven’t written a decent song in decades. And by the way, Billy Duffy will never write anything that doesn’t suck as long as he continues to flat-iron his hair. FYI, the world doesn’t need another reality show, any more than we need another sober rock star. What we need is better music. So keep your hands on the wheel, your eyes on the road, and for the love of god, get out of L.A. before it’s too late, and write a song I can hum along to.

Posted by: Ino Ino Isuck at March 10, 2007 10:33 PM

Ino Ino Isuck, it sounds like you're a little disenchanted with LA as well as music in general. If the usual music and musician aren't doing it for you anymore, maybe it's time to find something new.

Just an opinion, like yours.

Posted by: Suz at March 10, 2007 11:15 PM

Cue the U2 song 'Acrobat'...."Don't let the b"""""ds grind you down"!

Love & light x

Posted by: Andrea at March 11, 2007 04:44 AM

ino ino i suck-just a question.....when you say the world dosnt need another rock star are you basically saying that all rock stars should be fucked up on drink and drugs all the time?
people go on drugs drink(i know ALL about drink) for whatever reason but they dont do it to be cool.

Posted by: paul at March 11, 2007 06:05 AM

*sober rock star*

Posted by: paul at March 11, 2007 07:29 AM

ino ino...hum. The only thing I can think of from reading what was written is that, why isn't ino writing a song he can hum to? Maybe my opinion on all of those that don't like what they find on the market today aren't supporting those that would love to make songs. The damn market is full of the "usual" and it's because that is what is selling. I see what makes the top of the charts and it's all so much of the same thing, but it sells. A good rock album comes out and is virtually ignored because the market isn't marketing the good rock and roll. Once in a while something makes it on the chart, but all I see are a bunch of kids shaking it to some mindbending boring shit that has a dancible beat. I no longer care for radio either. I find most stations either play stuff 20 years old or more, or the top charts that I don't care much about. Maybe it's just my opinion and it counts for nothng.
I feel that if people want to hear rock and roll, they should buy rock and roll and support the musicians for their music. Everyone seems to want it for free, and the price paid is a lot of musicians not being supported for what they do best, and a lot of side gigs pay better.
Hell what do I know, I've never been around the block.

Posted by: stardreme at March 11, 2007 08:04 AM

hey Billy, delighted you are back. missed ya. today i am doing a good impersonation of a blancmange, so no input from me and no questions either - just wanted to send you one large fluffy cyber hug. just fuck 'em, don't let anyone get to you.

Billy,

With upcoming Cult commitments, will Duffy be available "enough" to give Circus Diablo a fair shot?

Let's hope there's room for both.

A good Sunday to all,
Jay

Um, hello Billy this is a total trip so I am just gonna tell u just in case you haven't already heard....... The other night on an ABC or NBC show, one that I don't normally watch so therefore I can't recall the name, but trust me it is "prime time" tv there was a story line involving one English rock star living in the states and his Blog was being hacked by some sicko that was on a rampage and Billy, it was just a freaking trip......They even have the blog up and running on the net!!!! Here is the addy, www.nigelblog.com !!! OMG!!! Go there Billy, it is a fu**ing trip! OK, was it just a bloody coincidence that your blog was being messed with at the same time? Hell if I know, but dude, it makes me just wonder, WHAT THE FUCK?!?! I hope your weekend is kicking ass with this "perfect weather'" --- RHCP. Love your Blog Billy, it is now official, THE NETWORKS KNOW WE FUCKING ROCK & ROLL! peace.

Hey Billy!

Glad to have you back blogging! I can totally understand needing to step back from everything. You've come so far in the last 12 years - climbing out of the gutter... marrying a beautiful lady... camp freddy... cirus diablo... loyal fans who panic when you drop off the radar...

I checked out http://www.nigelblog.com that was mentioned above. The site does have a very Morrison-like vibe to it. I also did a little research, the character of Dr. Nigel Townsend is from the television show Crossing Jordan.
