A STEAK ON SUNDAY

Its Sunday night, and I’m pretty beat…..just knocking around at home after a HUGE meal tonight at a place in LA called Arnie Mortens (a very well known steakhouse) where I probably ate enough food to keep me happy for a week!! If ever you get the chance to go, make sure you save room for the Raspberry Souffle ….. and order one each. You don’t wanna share this shit!! Anyway, my point is that its been a nice quiet weekend for me. I missed Namm, missed Sundance and feel like I am better for it! I have been holed up in my little studio, beavering away on lyrics and melody for the five new songs that Circus Diablo have written. I have completely enjoyed the process of being creative again with those guys, and I really don’t care too much about the result – I am just enjoying the process itself. The podcast from Saturdays CFR show is now up, again thanks to Dave from the UK, and that’s really about it. Mucho thanks to Matt S for the pics – they are from the Camp Freddy Costa Mesa show last year – and I really don’t have too much else to tell you. I have a screener of The Departed to watch (I never got around to that one in the movies, so I am looking forward to that) and STILL have The Descent on BluRay to watch. Its been all about the new series of MI5 on DVD recently, so I have a bit of catching up to do. Lets answer some questions while I’m here –

Peebs – Yeah, I did gain some weight when I stopped smoking. But being the vain asshole I am, I hit the cardio and pilates with a vengence and not only lost it all again, but actually lost more than when I started. So I am now a few pounds less than when I smoked! Seems like a good deal to me!!

Mark – I totally agree with you. Inspiration is all around us, and there for the taking. Its just up to the individual to open their eyes enough to see it. I get inspiration from the most random things!!

Mary – I ALWAYS have stuff that takes forever to come out. There is some shit in my head that I will never get out. But at the same time, there is stuff that just pours out in a stream and is done in five minutes. The songs on the forthcoming Circus Diablo album, called “Mad Parade” and “Hello, Goodbye” are both good examples of lyrics just coming out in one go.

Kelly – Hmm…..most exhilarating experience might well be the whole ‘diving with the tiger shark’ thing I did at Xmas. Although going 150 miles an hour on a motorcycle is pretty thrilling (did that more than once!!) and maybe some of the less ….. er …… legal activities that I used to get up to were a touch …… exciting at times!!

Vixen – No rituals at ALL!!! I’m usually asleep on a couch somewhere and they gotta wake me up. Or watching TV. Or if I’m on a bus, I’m playing video games or watching a movie. The only ritual I had was to light a cigarette, but now that’s gone, so I just kinda wander towards the stage when they tell me its time!!!

OK – done for tonight. Have a great week folks. I make a commitment to put a new V-Blog together this week. Its time. I have just been lazy, but the holidays are gone, its back to business, and so I really should bust out that video camera and get to work!! Lets see if the week brings an interesting background for one ….. you never know. Thanks to everyone for hanging around.
See ya.

Peace

Billy

Hey Billy! Great to talk to you on CFR this past Saturday! Haven't been around much, dealing a lot with life, work, and whatnot! The songs that you are currently working on with CD, are they going to be on the upcoming album, or is that already complete? How is it working with a bi-costal band? How often does Brett make it out to actually jam with you guys and do you think that is having an impact on the songwriting/recording process not all being together all the time?

Have a great day!

Ok Billy so you answered my question-if I quit smoking I'll definitely gain weight and I am just as vain as you so...

Go and be productive today...we all benefit! ;-)

I went and saw Army Of Anyone perform on Sat nite. The new project from the De Leo brothers picks up right where Stone Temple Pilots left off. Good stuff. Reminded me of The Panic Channel a little bit. Good Schtuff ! !

What up Billy!? Have you ever seen Meet the Feebles by Peter Jackson? Has anyone seen it? You have to see it! VERY CRAZY SHIT! Hey Billy, is your guitar pick you wear around your neck Chrome Hearts? Just wondering.... See ya in MIAMI!!

Posted by: Hj at January 23, 2007 03:01 AM

Hey Billy,
Glad all is well! If you get writer's block (god forbid) you could always have your peeps here collaborate and give you some lyrics to help put a song together, wouldn't that be fun, guys? A little piece of immortality on the CD debut album.

Stay safe.

Love,
Sue

hey peebs,
quit smokin!! you'll do it when it's right for you honey but the weight thing isn't an excuse! you can get a new excercise routine and be even sexier - just think no more disgusting smell, you'll save money and BE HEALTHY!! do it woman! i gave up eventually so i know it's hard work but a long time ago my Grandparents quit - Grandpa bless him had smoked for 70 years when he was told he had to give up and my Grandma quit to keep him company - she too had smoked for over 65 years so the excuse of having smoked for too long etc doesn't work either. you don't need it! smoking kills. and if it doesn't kill outright (like in my Grandpa's case) it has this ugly tendency to do plenty of damage to the body whilst you're still living.

Hi Billy,

Have you ever had a band send a CD to you at CFR?
Would it be alright to do so?

Cheers,

P

Billy "The Departed" is a great movie!

I was wondering what was the time span you were in The Cult? Did you ever perform "Fire Woman" with them? Is there a chance that Camp Freddy will ever perform "Fire Woman"?

Posted by: Linda from San Diego at January 23, 2007 07:36 PM

Hi Billy-my friend Linda posted, so I have to!

Again, thanx for being so kind and answering our questions!

What do you think of Simon Cowell and American Idol? I never got into the show.

Have a good week Billy! Db

Just another question I am curious about, why are some of the names highlighted in green that post>?

Posted by: Danni at January 23, 2007 08:33 PM

Thanks for answering my question!

If you mess up on stage, which I doubt you would, how do you get back in the mental headset of what you where originally doing?

Billy,

Any chance the Miami CF show is in connection with the Miami boat show? We have gone to the boat show the last couple of years & did not plan on going this year but getting a chance to see CF could possibly change our minds. Take care, Niki.

Ive asked this to Dave on one occasion and am interested in your thoughts as well. Through your years of touring, what have been some of your favorite/least favorite cities/venues to perform in? What about them made them your favorite/least favorite?

Strutter Magazine has been a thorn in my side.. until now! YAY!

It's that brand new FREE music mag published in Canada. It's premiere issue was January 2007 and it had our very own Circus Diablo on the front. The only problem was that unless you lived in Toronto, Montreal, Calgary or Vancouver and were able to hunt down a stand and grab one.. well, you were S.O.L. as they say. Despite asking everyone I could think of, I just couldn't get my hands on one.

You will all be happy to know that Strutter has now decided that they will sell "previous issues" of their free mag online for the low, low price of $10 US. (despite the fact that it's published and distributed in Canada.. go figure) I was away last week so I just bought mine now... HA HA Wheeee! Can't wait to check it out Billy. ;-)

They are apparantly expanding the cities it will be available in as they get rolling, so hopefully I'll get to check out future issues as well.
