A LIFE LESS ORDINARY
So heres the deal people. I worked on a project last year with director, Q De Chambres, called A Life Less Ordinary. The idea was to tell my story but have the visuals look a certain way - to really have a piece that looked cool, and was NOT reality TV - more Sundance Film Festival than Breaking Bonaduce! We didnt think about the end result, but just shot everything - from Camp Freddy to Circus Diablo, interviews with my friends, location stuff Downtown etc. We still dont know what we want to do with it, but one of the things I am working on is to have it on Morrison TV as original content. To actually present a television show on YouTube, in instalments, released periodically. This presents a few problems, not least that making this stuff costs money! Thats why people usually sell the shit to TV!!!! But before we even go there, lets cast aside the fact that money is involved (cos I fucking HATE that side of things!!) and lets just see what happens if we put up a few clips. Here's the intro of the pilot - enjoy. I will put up some more footage from LLO in a week or so. Keep your eyes on MORRISON TV, courtesy of YouTube.Com.

Being an "ordinary guy" is what sets you apart in the not-so-ordinary industry that is your world. I told another rocker friend of mine recently that "stars" fall from the sky all the time. It's nice to be surrounded by some of you who still have your feet on the ground. That passion and soul is your saving grace. I'm sure your candidness in telling your story could be a great inspiration to others trying to find their way. Proud of you for putting it out there.

That was the COOLEST Billy! I agree with Max, even if I didn't know you and saw that trailer on IFC...I'd be so tuned in for every episode!

I love what you said in the video. Especially, the part where you said you've got passion and soul and you're going to get it right this time.
Brilliant.

You are creative, Mr.Morrison! I really hope this takes off for you! It looks incredibly interesting and as usual, can't wait for more. I work a 40 hour week job, have a husband & no kids ( a life MORE ordinary) and you know what, I am always bitching that there are not enuff hours in a day, and I have NOwhere near as much shit going on as you! Good on ya! Can I have just a little of your energy? Niki

I agree with the family here, makes me want to see more even if I did not know who you were. Sounds like it could be a series on VH1 or Bravo. Love it.

Cool idea, and it DOES look good. We look forward to future episodes. ;)

I just watched it again and as Navarro would say... that was the ill yo! Youtube wouldn't do it justice though, it's better than that. Surely vh1 or MTV could pick it up?
Posted by: Max Danieli at January 30, 2007 01:26 PM
Totally dig the fact that you weren't fixated on the end result! Letting the project evolve naturally without trying to make it fit into the current "reality" model. Right on!
I'll be tuning in!

So awesome. I think that it's worthy of better than VH1 or MTV, maybe A&E. I'd pay to upgrade my cable if it were on IFC or Sundance. I can't wait to see more.

All the best,

Wow.....that was just Phenomenal! I, like everyone else who has already posted, am hooked! And in less than a minute!! Can't wait to see what you have in store! I agree that it's too good for youtube...that needs to be seen on a big screen TV! ;-) Perhaps a DVD version of season 1 will be in order! I would proudly display that on my shelf!
And Mr. M. you are still living up to the moniker that I gave you after the CF show in NYC at the Hard Rock last April. THE NICEST ROCK STAR EVAH!

Billy, for what it's worth, that looks amazing! Your story should definitely be told. Dave did it with a book and you HAVE to do it this way. It could be life changing for a lot of people, and a hell of a great story on top of it. Right on ya!

billy, the clip is amazing, it looks really interesting and I can't wait to see it, no matter how you want to show it ;)

I am not a comment person on your blog, though I have been reading it for quite awhile. I have probably been to twenty shows, met most of the people in your band camp freddy and at this point can be subjective when it comes to watching stuff.
I am a online and mobile entertainment producer.
I must tell you I enjoyed the clip. It looks cool and you got the story right. The gone for 14 years... I think you may have something that could be sold to TV... cause shit does cost money and YouTube ain't paying people yet... maybe brightcove or some other services soon... but not enough to make it look sweet like that. Though you may hate the money aspect I certainly think you understand it and know that it is the neccesary key to keep doing what you want. Art for Art Sake is a whole other topic I don't get into anymore. Regardless I will watch, however, maybe getting what you want out of it could help continue to spread your work to others.
One guys opinion - use your contacts and try to get this thing on alternative channels whether it be travel channel - which by the way your rock n roll diver thing is pretty neat, or discovery or whatever. Although you probabaly know all this with your dealins with bolthouse and agents etc.
This could be what Diablo needs to push it forward.
With your relationships with companies you could do the Huell Howser Biz Model... Know who he is? He does a show on PBS, California something, he gets Grants makes more money from grants then he would from a TV Show and then owns the show.
If you want to go online - you tube will help you get it out there but not monetize... monetize... keep it going... alright dude
I am rambling when I should be working.
Later,
Keep up the Rock!

Billy, I told you last year to write your book, so of course this post makes me very happy. :)
Posted by: Carly at January 30, 2007 10:02 PM
Ooh! First post.
Here's the thing that sucked with it:
I wanted to see more and I couldn't! :cries: Very clever...you've certainly hooked me, Mr. Morrison. I really loved your monologue and I like that you're not going the reality TV route with it because I think it would give you less credibilty. It definitely has more of a documentary feel. I hope to see it in its entirety!

Billy, I do have a question 4 you: What were your biggest influences that prompted this telling of your story now? You had mentioned 2 me awhile back your concern that your story was far from being told due to your age, but of course, some of us live numerous lives before 40. Very good stuff. peace.

Great preview.
I'm looking forward to seeing more of it!
Posted by: Jakob at January 31, 2007 03:28 AM
WOW That promo is amazing Billy, cant wait for more!!
Thanks for answering my question last week and all the other weeks, it means alot.
My question this week is being in the music industry and the spot light all the time you would always have people trying to pull you down criticizing your personal life, music, the way you dress etc. How do you deal with that?
Posted by: Kelly at January 31, 2007 05:31 AM
Billy - How about MTV? You can tell just from the comments here that we all love it and can't wait for more - Can you imagine the impact you will have if you get this out to the wider audience?!!
If you make this your way would you lose the control by selling it to MTV for example - is this what you're saying - that if any of the big commercial giants get involved then you can't just do your thing and it's likely to turn out in some specific format - pap Reality TV rather than more of a visual biography?
Youtube is massive and the web definitely one medium which allows the control to stay with the artist - but even if you hate the money side of things... Maybe you could consider it... You showed us one single minute and we're all begging / waiting for the rest!
Just listening to CFR podcasts here as I type, you and Navarro so make me laugh. You have this easy vibe between the two of you that's infectious.
Can we please have a nice sexy little Circus Diablo html banner one day too please? For all these myspace pages that need it!
Thanks.
Big love to all.

Dude!! You HAVE to sell this show to TV! It's too good for just us fans, and the internet is too vast for enough people to see it!! also you gotta make sure you sell it to a UK channel as well, like Sky One or MTV, cause I NEEEDD to see it.
Oh yeah and wheres this weeks CFR podcast? i also need that!

Hey Billy,
I love the trailer. I know people have mentioned quite a few channels here but is it possible to put it up as a series on itunes where people would buy the new episode every week?
Just a thought...
Posted by: Aaron at February 1, 2007 12:33 PM
sincerity, passion and honesty, now that makes good tv, that trailer had all three.
