THE ENORMO-POST

CAMP FREDDY: WRECK THE HALLS
Please note that this is a large file size. A high speed connection is preferred.

Another great evening of Rock And Roll at The Avalon Theater in Hollywood. I gotta tell you that my job doesn’t suck. Not only did we get to play all the usual great rock songs with our friends, I also got to watch Jonesy and his Neurotic Outsiders play three classic punk tunes …… AND we were able to raise a bunch of money for a great charity. Now how’s that for a good night out?! The evening was a complete success, starting with our very own DRIVE A who rocked the place awake when the doors opened, and quite frankly left a lot of jaded old Hollywood hacks with their mouths open. How many times do you see THIRTEEN year olds rocking like they’ve been doing it for years? A great band, and ONE TO WATCH!!

The Ringers and Lily Allen also played, although I didn’t see them ….. I was busy getting ready, doing press, and generally warming up for our hour of madness! The set was shorter than usual, so that we were able to make way for the Neurotics reunion. But we did change it up quite a bit anyway – EMI instead of PrettyVacant with The Pontiff, a killer version of the Clash’s Police And Thieves, with Elan on vocals (awesome) and Tony Kanal from No Doubt hitting the dub bass lines, and even a run through of the new single, Merry Xmas Everybody, with Terri Nunn and Steve Issacs giving us a helping hand in the choruses. Which reminds me ...... CLICK HERE TO BUY THE SINGLE..

A really good night out, and I saw a few familiar faces in the front rows …… even a Circus Diablo ‘Made In Hell’ shirt staring at me from the front row. I LOVE it!!! I did actually answer all your questions on camera as part of the V-Blog, but it was so long that the Blog became completely impractical …… it would have taken a week to download it!! So I removed the answers, and figured I would keep the V-Blog to three minutes, and type the answers to the great questions you’ve been throwing at me. So here goes ……

Sue – Well, I think the cleverest YouTube video is the one that’s been on my front page under ‘New Items’ for months!! (Ahh, the irony ….) – the animated album covers. Funniest? …. Well most of the funny ones I’ve seen, I put on my YouTube page on this site. Have to say that Mastercard is STILL one of the funniest, although Ketchup Effect is way up there too.

Max – I don’t really practice playing as such, because between the two bands, the sessions, the studio stuff and writing songs, I tend to be playing guitar most days anyway. But I have definitely improved 100% as a player standing alongside Navarro, Cantrell, Diuffy, Slash etc. There is no doubt that being in Camp Freddy has pushed me to be a better player. And I didn’t have ANY plans for ANYTHING!! No back up plans whatsoever, but no real Main Plan either!! I just kinda stumbled and winged my way in life. I just try and stay focused on what makes me happy, and try to stay out of the results and enjoy the process. THAT is not easy, but I try.

Merc – Watch carefully. Head back, deep breath …… and bang! I spit it out and up and away, just before I start singing! A little dramatic maybe, but I couldn’t figure out what else to do with it, and I was about to sing!! No, I don’t own any bikes these days. I ride other peoples or rent occasionally, but as my father and my uncle both rode professionally, I grew up on two wheels, and wrecked more bikes by the time I was 21 than most people EVER do in their life! I love to ride, but only on vacations now.

Jay – Not being funny but I really CANT describe that feeling! Steve Jones is one of the nicest, coolest guys I know, and obviously getting to play Pistols songs with him is amazing. But if pushed …… it’s a very personal, internal sense of emotion – pleasure, anger, rebellion and happiness all rolled into one!!

Paul – Yep. Not a lot I can add to that Guns And Roses paragraph. It’s the same for them as it is for The Panic Channel or anyone else. Your album now gets thrown out into the world and they hope people figure out that its available. No marketing dollars anymore kids!! Last CD? – Killers new album. But mostly I buy from I-Tunes, and that would be the Def Leppard covers album, Yeah. Top band of 2006? – The Panic Channel without a doubt. Best Live Act of 2006? – either Alice In Chains, or NIN (was that this year or last?). Most overated band? – 99% of all of em!! But Lily Allen has to be up there!!

Kelly – GREAT question!! Well, one little secret is that at least 50% of the time, I cant see ANYONE!! The lights are so blinding that a lot of the show I’ll be smiling and pointing at someone in the crowd ….. and I just cant see em!! But the other half of the set is very clear, and I can see everyone (at least, now I had Lasik!!). I find myself thinking about why that guy at the front looks angry. Or where that girl got those jeans. Or sometimes I even start thinking about what I’ll have to eat later, or whats on TV, and I’ll have to drag my head back on stage!!

MB – The WORST Xmas gifts are always the ones that have NO thought behind them … that make NO sense!! A pair of Argyle socks! Or how about one year … a pair of soccer boots!!! I don’t PLAY fucking soccer!!!! Best gift? My wifes present to me of my solid gold guitar pick, with my name engraved on one side (in case I forget!) and the word CHAOS on the other. Most thoughtful? ….. anything that anyone has chosen because of WHO I am.

That’s it. If I missed anyones question, just ask it again, and I promise I’ll get to it. This just became the ENORMO-POST!! Lots of text, the V-Blog, the links …… I have to stop now!! Tonight is an all new CFR – Dave is not going to be there, but I’ll be holding down the fort, and maybe Dono or Matt will come join me. Who knows. Either way, the show must go on, right??? Get out there and buy the Camp Freddy single, and spread the word. The video will be up on YouTube, MySpace, and all associated sites next week. OK. Done. Gone. Finished. Bye.

Billy

So glad you AND the camera made it to the gig safely. Footage was fun to watch, it was great live!
I was Just downloading the xmas song as I was reading your new post.
Will be listening tonight. Since Scott wasn't at the show drag his ass into the Radio show tonight!

Posted by: beth at December 9, 2006 10:18 AM

love the "dashboard cam"
Yea I saw Dave was doing one of his "professional party-goer" gigs in HOTlanta. "Ward, I'm a little worried about the beaver". I'll be a shame if he misses crazy dog lady calling back tonight.

Quick question-how or why did the CF Christmas song come about? Did someone suggest it/ask you guys to do it? Or was it thought up in the mind of Morrison?
I bought it and downloaded it last night!

Hey Billy,

I have to say that Samantha and I were in awe of Drive A. We caught ourselves saying near the end of their set, "I wanna break the lawwe."
Just joking. Serioulsy hot show! Like Dave posted the other day the show was Drive A's for sure. Billy, you were amazing and I just want to thank all the musicians for supporting such an important orginization. Now that rocks~

Billy,

Thanks for taking the time to answer all of our questions. I enjoy reading everyone's question & then your answers. I am hoping that your vblogs are available on youtube (only way I can get them right now). Take care & I will have to catch the podcast of CFR on Monday. Niki

Currently being driven up the walls by the indie stream that keeps rebuffering on itunes. All I hear are snippets. (argghh!)

Billy, I literally just finished watching the film Jubilee on TV here. ITV4.
kind of surprised they put it on.

so anyway, HI!! I'm trying to listen to CFR!

Billy, I asked a question. It was about your writing a book.
Previously, you said you didn't want to write a book, that was back in the days when Dave N's book was released. What made you decide you wanted to write a book afterall?

And you think I have an accent? hehe

Anyways, sorry we didnt get to hear the sreamcast tonight and I bugged the hell outta y'all calling into the show tonight 2x. Anyways...a ton of folks are feeling deprived about Camp Freddy. We know the intentions of CF however we get teased from elsewhere around the globe not being able to see a gig. Any intentions on this doing a "mini tour" elsewhere besides Cali or NY? Much love and respect for what you do to provide us folks with entertainment!

Hick from Alabama.

Me again, Argghh!!! I'm all alone (ha ha..like the 'imaginary guy in Copenhagen') and I can't get CFR at all now.

Suggestion for CF: A Killing Joke song. Eighties.
(or any Killing Joke)

Posted by: ylais at December 9, 2006 07:10 PM

Can't get CFR to work for me today. And driving with the top down? I'm jealous. I think it's like 21 degrees outside right now. You and Jen coming to Dallas this year? We're making a road trip over at some point this month. Thanks for the awesome v-blog!!

Posted by: Justin at December 10, 2006 05:52 AM

where's the podcast?!

Please someone get it up!

Posted by: Max Danieli at December 10, 2006 06:01 AM

'Most overated band? – 99% of all of em!! But Lily Allen has to be up there!! '

Wow Billy controversial after she was at the event! But I totally agree. After you talked so much about her on CFR i thought you were a fan.

Posted by: Max Danieli at December 10, 2006 06:48 AM

And nearly getting car jacked, hahaha OMG! Were you in Compton!

Posted by: Max Danieli at December 10, 2006 07:15 AM

yeah billy nearly gettin jacked????
take a leaf outta the foo fighters book and "learn to fly"

Posted by: Paul at December 10, 2006 09:02 AM

I thought it was TOTALLY inappropiate that Lily Allen actually said, "I hope you're all ready for..." then looked up behind her to try and get the name of the band, and I think someone had to shout it to her, "...Camp Freddy. I don't really know who they are!...giggle..." Hey Lily, here's a clue, it takes about 5 minutes to bring up google, find an article, and do a little research about the band that's to follow you. I agree, totally overrated, I think I actually fell asleep while standing up watching her. But you guys killed.

Posted by: OLDSCHOOL at December 10, 2006 11:06 AM

Love ya Billy.

Show rocked.
XOXO

Lily Rose Allen (born 2 May 1985) UK singer, daughter of Keith 'Fat Les' Allen. Signed to Regal / Parlophone records in December 2005, upsetting Polydor A&R man Seb Chew in the process (He described her as "The one that got away").

Above is an example of how an artist (every1 doesn't like Yoko) used myspace to get her music out there when her record company didn't do jack 4 her....what if Seb would have gotten her? Maybe nothing~
peace.

Carly,

I am sure Lukas was with Kendra Jade, from what I've heard, she is his girlfriend. He is very nice, I was able to talk with him briefly at a couple of Rockstar tapings. I saw him at Jimmy Kimmel Live, and after the concert, he came over to me after I yelled out "Lukas I have a letter for you!!!"

Sorry I missed Camp Freddy, maybe next time. Billy, I want to hear you perform "Fire Woman"!

Posted by: Linda from San Diego at December 10, 2006 12:50 PM

Hey Linda, thanks. I sort of wrote that for you cuz I know how much you dig him. He was cool. So Billy played (CFR) one of RSSN songs and it was not bad, in fact, it was kind of good~ Have a delightful Sunday every1.

Posted by: Carly at December 10, 2006 01:18 PM

Phew! Just made it home from the gig due to the shutdown of the 101 for no apparent reason & the detour to nowhere!
I ended up in the bus/carpool lane (alone) of the 10 freeway heading to Florida! yikes! lol
Ahhh, a Camp Freddy gig is always an adventure!

It was me with the Made In Hell tshirt Billy :) Some people were asking where they could get one so I suggested they may want to attend a Circus Diablo gig next year.

Thanx for another great show, Ben Lee in gold lamee was def a surprise! lol
Great to see the Morrison blog family out en masse.
Meeting everyone just makes the shows that much better!

You said on the radio last nite the next CF gig was Jan 5th - care to elaborate?
I'm hoping for Sydney! lol

I'm off to the Land of Oz tomorrow & won't be near a puter for a while so biggie hugs to everyone.
Have a safe & happy Christmas & New Year.

So good to see you on Thursday. Safe Travels and Happy Holidays, hope things go well. Write in when you can!

Posted by: beth at December 10, 2006 02:42 PM

Yoooooo, what's poppin' Billy? Just got the new single. Tight.

Why on earth don't you & Dave have your own show on MTV yet? I'm writing a letter.

Also, you have looked in great shape consistently and I was wondering maybe if you could throw me some pointers on dieting. My weight fluctuates like crazy. Example- this time last year I was 146 pounds and currently I weigh in at about 186-188. We share the same body structure so if you could let me know maybe daily diet or exercise tips I'd really appreciate it dude.

Adios
