ODDS AND ENDS

No groundbreaking, earth shattering news. But the observant among you will notice I finally got around to changing the front page You Tube video. The new one (thanks to Jay) is a very rare appearance by Getting The Fear, the band that preceeded INTO A CIRCLE. Bee (the singer) and Barry (the bass player) were in both bands, and I joined them in Into A Circle. I actually found some live In2AO video (see below) - the audio is bad, the video is dark, but its definately us. I'm the stoned guy on the left with red hair that kinda wanders into frame every now and then!!. And while I was messing with the YouTube stuff, I updated my YouTube videos page, so now we are moving onto a second page of favorite vids. Also, seems like AOL Online enjoyed the show last week at the Avalon Theater. Many thanks to Steve Baltin for enjoying The Freddy Experience and writing such a glowing review. CLICK HERE FOR AOL CAMP FREDDY REVIEW. OK - Its Question Time with Morrison .....

Peebs - The Merry Xmas Everybody idea was all 100% Donovan. He had the idea, he pushed the band to do it, to get into the studio and co-ordinated the whole thing. Big up mad respec' to the Leitch Massive.

Anonew - I'm glad we can put a smile on your face after all that! CFR is there to entertain, so hopefully you'll keep the dial right where it is.

BirdVaczine - I havent watched any Bros And Sisters, so I cant comment. Whats your take on it?

Sue - Most bizarre present must be a tie between a bottle of Tequila (I dont drink! And havent done so for 12 YEARS!!!) and a strange, ceramic jewelry box that looked like it was made by a seven year old with a nervous twitch.

MB - If there are any presents at all, they get opened on Xmas day. But I prefer to do all the $$ on a holiday, or something big, that needs to be bought before Xmas, so the actual day itself is spent chilling quietly with no big tree/present dramas!!

Danni - Nope. Knocked the canned Starbucks on the head. And the new Gwen track is .... er .... not really my cup of Java.

Max - Its nice that you are so passionate about your likes and dislikes. I fully support that. I also advocate allowing others their opinions and their choices. So I am sorry that you dont like the recent choices of Def Lep, The Towers and My Chem on CFR. But guess what. You dont have to listen. If you dont like the music we play (or that I play, specifically) - then turn it off. I appreciate your support here, but I will continue to play the tracks that I enjoy listening to, and that includes the Towers Of London. I dont really care where they come from!

Vixen - I dont really think about the copyright laws, but I do know they are there for a reason, and they do protect our creative works. Is that right that it becomes public domain after 50 years? Hmm - not sure how I feel about that. What about the families of the creators? More research is needed. NOW you got me thinking!!!

Martin - WOW!!! I cannot believe that we made up this whole 'imaginary listener' ..... and he EXISTS!!! No. Do not feel insulted. Feel strong and empowered!! Email me, and we'll get you on the phone on CFR. We HAVE to talk to you now!!

Jezzi - As I will be out of town this week, you should hit Dave with the 'more light' request. I'm sure he will oblige.

Merc - OG Van Halen rules. These days ..... well, lets say I like to listen to the old albums!! And no, I havent taken part in the Cabo jams, although Matt Sorum has a story or two about some 'South Of The Border' expolits!!

Other than that, I am trying to keep my head down and out of trouble. Sometimes thats harder than it seems!! But we live and learn, and I am no stranger to that process. Thanks to all of you for your support - we'll keep building Chez Morrison in 2007, and I hope you enjoy the ride. The PROCESS is the END RESULT. The JOURNEY is the DESTINATION. I have to keep remembering this shit. Proceed ......

Peace

Billy

I have another question, this relates to Dono. Well, his dad. Do you guys (or just you) ever go see him live? I work with a huge Donovan fan and he said he just saw him last month here in NY and he was fantastic.

He didn't even know about the Camp Freddy connection or that I've seen Dono a couple of times so that was an interesting conversation! And the pic I showed him from the CF show a couple of years ago had Dono wearing a Donovan shirt.

Billy,

What's your guilty pleasure (musically speaking that is)?

If someone were to rummage through your albums/CDs/MP3s, what artist would you be embarassed to have them find?

Have a great holiday!

Well tell Dono his idea was BRILLIANT!

I just picked up tix today for Army of Anyone at the Bowery Ballroom for me, MB, Sue and Kristen on Feb 1st. The night before (Jan 31st) we will be seeing Dave and TPC at Radio City so what would cap off our week....Circus Diablo playing somewhere in NYC on Feb 2nd ;-)
Just a thought...

I can't believe the year is almost over! :-o What an interesting year it's been!
So Billy, any New Years Resolutions?

I'm guessing my question was too annoying to answer.

I have good suggestions for CF live or just a good listen:

Powertrip by Monster Magnet. Awesome song by a great band that nobody has heard of.

teh Peebs rules, thanks for the AOA hookup, lady. MB better get her butt there! Bowery, crappy area but great small venue with an awesome lounge downstairs!

Jordan, I've been listening to Monster Magnet for a long time, found them through my brother around '98-99. Good times...

One thing I forgot to add....how rude of me....

Thank YOU Billy, for your blog and letting us be part of a small slice of your life! Your definitely one of the coolest kats I know and I can't wait to take part in all the stuff that'll be happening in 2007!!! You know you can always count on us! :-) A Happy and Healthy Holiday to you and Jenn!

Monster Magnet? Hell yeah! Powertrip is easily their best album. Billy if you haven't got this one then you're missing out. I have a few of their other albums which aren't as consistently good as Powertrip...some of the songs are a bit here and there but there are also some killer tunes on them. Well worth checking out.

Billy, just joking around about yourmusic choices, I totally respect that everyone has their own tastes. I only ever listen to the podcasts so I never actually hear the music. On a more positive note I have started Listening to the Sex Pistols because of you speaking so highly of them, and it's great!

I listen to CFR more for the banter. I actually learn quite a bit from hearing you and the others talk about your experiences etc. It really is interesting and insightfull stuff.

Sorry if I offended you in any way.

Wo.
Billy is this true? I just got this in a bulletin at myspace from The Joint @ the HR Hotel and Casino:

Just got this email. Thought I'd share it since it says spread the word. As of now tickets are available. $250 not including service charges. - MJB

Body English has secured Camp Freddy for NYE, the band will do the countdown and perform some songs. The line up looks great and they might even have a few surprise guests…If anyone is unfamiliar with Camp Freddy here you go…

CAMP FREDDY is not a band, but it is also way more than a jam session... CAMP FREDDY is an 'Occasional Happening', a freak of Hollywood nature. What happens when we get together and play is anyone's guess. Surprise guests, lounge singers turned heavy rock superstars, some of the world's greatest guitarists playing three chord punk tunes. I mean, who knows what will happen at the next show? It's all about the music, the motivation and, above all, the fun!! What we all got into the business for originally. We play some of the greatest rock and roll songs ever written, have a real laugh doing it, and invite other artists that we know and respect to play them with us. It's the real spirit of Rock and Roll.' --Billy Morrison, Guitarist-Camp Freddy

Camp Freddy Core members
Scott Weiland- Stone Temple Pilots, Velvet revolver
Billy Morrison- the Cult
Matt Sorum- GNR
Donovan Leitch- Camp Freddy
Chris Chaney- Jane's Addiction
Special guests
Jerry Cantrell- Alice in Chains
Chester- lead singer Linkin Park

Billy that is all quite schveet.

Very cool vid, WAY better quality than I expected! Fantastic. Hey, I think there's an option on copyright where in the initial copyright that the artist (or WHOEVER) gets lasts for fifty years, after which it has to be renewed by the copyright holder (usualy the estate). I'm nopt sure how many times this can be done... Or how entirely accurate all this is... Whatevs!

Cool shit again though man, totes + fosh.

Sorry for the multiple posts, but I meant to include a Thank You in my earlier post.

All my years as a fan of Generation X and Billy Idol, I thought the lyric in Kiss Me Deadly was "Having fun since I was six..." It wasn't until I heard your most excellent acoustic version that I realized it was "South West Six".

Does Camp Freddy cover this song, as well?

Also, Wild Youth by Gen X would be an awesome cover. And perhaps Last Cigarette by Dramarama. I could go on, but I won't. I know the policy on requests.

Cheers~

Billy,

I absolutely loved the In2AO vid, thank you for posting it.

A couple of questions concerning that period if you'd be so kind. Looking back, did you realize at the time you were a part of one of the more influential "scenes" of the modern rock era? Also, exactly what guitar were you playing and do you still have it? I'm an absolute sucker for the "jangly" post punk/goth tone!

Thank you,
Jay

Hi Billy,

About copyright:

http://www.macworld.co.uk/news/index.cfm?RSS&newsID=16577

Monday, 27 November 2006 UK recorded music copyright remains at 50 years
Gowers Review declares copyright on recorded music should be held at 50 years
(Macworld staff)

The UK will not extend the copyright period on sound recordings following an independent review by the Treasury.

Record labels and acts, including Sir Cliff Richard and Jethro Tull, had been lobbying for the copyright period for recorded music to be extended to last for 95 years, rather than the 50-year-limit of today. Music label trade group the BPI had argued that extending the term would benefit musicians and the industry. However, the review found that the benefits were not sufficiently significant to justify such a change. The review was conducted by Andrew Gowers. The decision means that the earliest official recordings from The Beatles will be out of copyright in 2013

Billy - Thank you for answering my question. Appreciated.

I thought the video was really cute actually - the distinctive streaks of raw colour and the hazy fog add to the atmosphere.

Speaking for myself but everyone had such bad hair back then though - doesn't matter how cool we all thought we were at the time, it's a disaster looking back!
