SEE SAW
The days whiz by in a haze of nothingness, and I am transformed inexorably into the couch monster, trawling little known cable tv stations for a glimpse of something that might numb the rotting sensation in my mind. Actually, nothing of the sort is going on, and I am healthy, busy and happy!! But the sentence started flowing and I went with it!!! Ha ha!! Someone was asking me about how I write, and that is a great example, except that normally it would all go down on paper and get edited around later. I love when stuff streams in like that - if its song lyrics, or music, its a fantastic feeling. But lately I have been working on stories - for nothing in particular right now - but just pages of text, telling a few anecdotes from the past, changing names around, messing with scenarios. We'll see - but I REALLY enjoy it.
So - Whats been going on? Well, I hit a couple of movies this weekend .... and even though the clever plot lines and shocking end of the original Saw seem to be in the dim and distant past now, SAW 3 is still a fun shock horror gore movie to see!! Its basically an hour and a half of gratuitous movie ways to kill people, but if thats your thing (and its definately mine!!) then go see it. The other one I hit was Sara Michelle in The Return. Not bad, a little slow, and a little confusing, but she looked cute with dark hair. Tonight I'm gonna rock the remake of The Omen, fresh out on DVD, so its lights out, THX surround sound on, and roll em!!
I've also been working on a Camp Freddy performance thats coming up on thursday this week. I am afraid that this one is a totally private affair, but I promise I will take the camera and grab some choice V-Blog footage while I'm at it. Its about time I did another one - seems like months since we had a decent V-Blog up here. The CF show is in Hollywood, and I will post all the details on Friday, once we have done the gig. And the other lot, Circus Diablo, will be able to get down to some business during the next few weeks as Billy will be back in LA after The Cult tour. I am hoping that Brett and I will be working together on some tunes later this week, and I have been messing around with a few riffs over the past few days as well, so lots of music in my life right now.
The CFR last Saturday was great, with Matt Sorum and myself at the helm. But unfortunately, the stream was down, so no podcast I am afraid, people. But Dave and I will be at it again this coming Saturday, and Paul will be handling the recording of the podcast, so its business as usual (fingers crossed!!)
I'll hit all the questions on the V-Blog, so for now I just wanna say thanks to all of you who remain positive on here, and are helping build a decent online community. When I look around and watch Tower Records closing, and major labels doing absolutely nothing for their bands, I become even more convinced that it is you, the consumer, that should have the last say. And its on the web that you get to do that - to discover new music - to support new talent - to build your own communities. I love it, and you are all part of it.
Peace
Billy

Well Billy....
I just got home from Mr. Duffy's last gig with The Cult @ Irving Plaza...and may I say FUCKING AMAZING! Ian sounded awesome and well Billy..what can i say...
It was filmed and what a fantastic show to film. It's available for download.
But when we arrived at Irving Plaza what do i spy in the lobby? A PHOTO BOOTH. So of course we all pile in and take B/W photo's to send to Dave (you get a choice now of color or the old school B/W and it's all digital) and who do we spy at the lobby bar? BRETT. So MB and I go over and said "Hey Brett remember us? From the summer at the X's show on the Island?" He was like not really. So we said "The Deeez Nuts girls?" "OOOOOOOH YEA!!!" He still had that look of horror as if we were escaped mental patients ;-) But it's all good! And of course we had to mention that we are waiting patiently for CD to hit NYC!!!
Let me know when I have to start hitting the pavement doing street promotion!
Enjoy your week Billy, can't wait to hear all about the super secret ultra private surprise Camp Freddy gig!!

Sup Billy Boy,
It is great when all of sudden words come flowing through you, it's like you unconsciously open up a channel and words stream through you..very satisfying stuff. Trouble is when you say ok I want to write a song now you think too much and you end up writing nothing.
Good to hear you and Dave will be back on CFR...The Billy/Dave combo is unbeatable!
By the way what's your pedal fx setup?

You have really got a flair for a written pirouette. I know I was asking you how you wrote last post, am sure other people were too. I wondered if you had a feel for something, if the sentence formed itself and it just flew out on to the page - can really see that by the beautiful language and the image you just sketched - or if you were inspired by anything in particular. (imho it is the most amazing feeling to write. When I write I forget where I am, who I am and all but the connection between mind, keys and fingers). Had no idea if it was the same process for music as words and music as initially they seem to be different medium. Really interesting. Words have to have rhythm and pace too I guess. BILLY DEFINITELY OH MI GOD YOU HAVE TO WRITE A BOOK! Good grief you just HAVE TO!! Can't quite yell loudly enough on here!
(Just sent out my 3 chapters yesterday to an agent and expecting the rejection letter in about 4-6weeks!)
Also, as for online community - things are so much sweeter here than in a lot of places. Something to do with the fact that Billy you don't take no shit! It's a decent vibe and such a privelege really to read all that you get up to during the week and be a part of that - be permitted to interact.
Have a good week all.
x

Yes, Irving Plaza...Bangkok 5...the Cult...photo booth...the girls AND their girls representin' 6767.com, SRL (we would have represented CD IF WE HAD TSHIRTS, hint hint--get that merch ready to go!)...and Brett (and yes, he did look a little wary but then recovered nicely!)
Can't WAIT for you to hit town w/CD, Brett said 2007 :)

Billy,
With your mention of Tower closing and the lack of support for bands by the labels, I have a question that falls within that line of conversation.
How is/will it be possible to get Diablo "out there" proper (both album and touring wise) so to speak with the business of music being what it is these days?
Is there a plan?
Thank you,
Jay

Hang in there Alec, those guys must be jealous of your talent and success.

Billy - any other hints on the CF show this Thursday? I might know somebody that knows somebody (that's how I got into the Costa Mesa show, which, by the way, rocked!).
I don't need the venue, if it's secret, but who's hosting, is it an charity event, etc.
Thanks and have a great day.

Hey Billy,
Did you hear Christopher Walken is playing Ozzy in the film version of the Motley Crue book The Dirt?
Heh, that will be worth the price of admission.

Billy,
The world needs more people like you. Thanks for given us a peak into your life.
I for one really enjoy reading about what is going on with you and your bands. Without trying to sound scary it makes me feel like an insider or a part of it.
Thanks and Peace to you,
Matt S.

Crazy Bee, Thursday's show is a benefit for my new charity effort Children Urgently Needing Taco Salads, that I founded with Ellen Degeneres and Rosie O'Donnell. As you may know, a properly made taco salad incorporates all components of the four food groups (meat, dairy, vegitable and grains) - making it the ideal meal for starving children worldwide.

Thanks for the tip OldSchool - so let's see, they're either playing at Benito's on Santa Monica or perhaps the Taco Bell on Western.

Hi Billy and every1. Just saying hello and hopefully all is well~~ peace, clk
I finally got my computer back up and running (minus sound 4 now) but yeah, I love it. :)

You so hit the nail on the head about the major labels doing nothing for the bands. You see hardly little or no promo for albums anymore. It really sucks. The internet, fan sites, communities, the people that post the messages on all the boards etc. Is the best promotion going these days. I'll use this for an example, I did not know a thing about the Def Leppard Yeah! album until i read your blog about it, on this site. The labels sure dont promote bands anymore, especially a band like Leppard or any rock act for that matter. Great post ! I totally agree with your insight regarding the consumer and the internet. You are so right on. Play some Neurotic Outsiders for me on CFR. Only kidding man. Cheers,Billy
