SUNNY SUNDAY SERMON
Please note that this is a large file size. A high speed connection is preferred.
Ahh .... Orange County. Costa Mesa, to be precise. That strange, twighlight netherworld just outside of Los Angeles, that actually isn't JUST outside at all, but a few hours drive away!! How come people who live there INSIST that its "only half an hour away" ....... "oh, its just outside of LA" ...... but unless you decide to go there at 3.00am, when there is nothing on the freeway, it takes HOURS!!!??? When the car actually arrived at the venue, I noticed that we had not actually seen ANY residential areas anywhere near us. In fact, I started to wonder if anyone actually lived in Costa Mesa, or if they only came there to visit the Westin hotel, and the South Beach Plaza!!! I'm joking, of course. I know people live there ..... I just couldnt figure out WHERE!!!
The building was brand new (see the V-Blog ..... I mean there were still BUILDING the building!!!!) but they did a great job of rushing around during our soundcheck and finishing the painting, laying the carpet, throwing the couches in the dressing rooms, and making the place seem inviting. And the actual show was really great - tons of energy, a noisy crowd (having the whole front row made up of Morrison Family members and 6767'ers does tend to help matters!!!) and an enjoyable set list. CC Deville made his Camp Freddy debut with ACDC's Highway To Hell, and Poison's Nuthing But A Good Time, Steve Stevens and Mark McGrath pulled off an absolutely incredible version of Ted Nugents Cat Scratch Fever, and Chester Bennington sang an INSANE version of Janes Addiction's Mountain Song. For the full set list and guests, check out the EVENTS page at WWW.CAMPFREDDY.NET.
If you haven't already watched the new YouTube Favorite video, do so immediately. Click on the image of the Andy Warhol/Velvet Underground album cover on the top right of this page and watch one of the cleverest animations I have seen in a long time. Thanks to my friend Gary for sending me that link. Pure genius. I also noticed the banner for SAW 3 that popped up on YouTube ....... I am starting to build a huge list of movies that I need to go see - Grudge 2, Departed, Saw 3, Prestige, the new Texas Chainsaw ..... better get my ass to the movie theater today. Except that -
I am working this afternoon on some video editing WAY out in the valley. Its one of those projects that isn't really worth talking about until its done and dusted, but I am excited enough about it to be putting in the hours. And so on this wonderfully lazy sunny Sunday, I will be driving an hour outside LA to go sit in a small, dark room, to watch and edit frames of video ..... probably for hours. There HAS to be something wrong with me!!!
Peebs - Well spotted. That movie project, SIN JYN SMYTH, seems to have been one of those things that disappeared into the ether. Its interesting how it happens ALL the time in Hollywood, and THAT is why I am loath to give out ANY details until something is locked in 100%. One minute we are getting screenings of the daily rushes over at Warner Bros Studios, and being told this and that, and then you hear ....... nothing. Not a peep. Not a dicky bird. Nada!!!! You get the idea - I am sure the movie will eventually come out, but as far as the "Two Billy's" involvement? ...... not so much, it seems!!!!
Terri - Tried The Nine ..... didnt really grab me too much. My new shows include Jericho, Six Degrees, Heroes ..... and Ugly Betty!!!!
Susan (Anderson) - Welcome to the Morrison blog. And welcome to whatever world this is opening up for you! I hope you enjoy your time spent in this world. Keep your dial here!
Dennis - Thanks mate. Nice to see you are still around here. Hope all is going well mate.
Sue - Wow!! That movie, The Bridge, looks amazing! Yes, very dark subject matter, but hopefully its been done well. Looking out for that one - thanks for the tip.
Mayhem - You are too funny! Its like my life is like the Geico Lizard! (Oh, wait a minute - do you guys have that in the UK? If not, search Geico Lizard in YouTube!)...... "Come over to the Morrison gaff. 'Ave a cuppa tea, keep it social, hows ya mum?!!!..... Love it! In answer to your question, we normally tend to hang out at dinner, usually a restaurant (cos there are tons of good ones around here) or meet up in the evening for one of the parties or events that are always going off in Hollywood. Popping round for a cuppa doesnt really happen ..... and never really did in my life, either, come to think of it!
Matt S - You are so welcome, my friend. And actually, I am the one that should be thanking you - for taking care of us so well!!!
Paul - I hope that flying halfway around the world, hanging out in Mahony's Shamrock Tattoo's, seeing Lemmy in the Rainbow, meeting all the Morrison Family ..... and getting into a Camp Freddy show, has been worth it!!! Great to see you. Now someone explain what 615 is please!!!!!!??????
As much as I just wann keep typing (and I have to admit that this has ended up being a rather LONG post!!), I really do need to get dressed, get out, and get moving with the day. If I can get this video shit edited and done, then I can move forward with the whole project, so its worth spending my day off working, I suppose. Thanks to ALL of you who come here and continually read this blog - I do hope I do enough to keep it interesting for everyone. And respect to all of you for helping it remain a no-stress, cool place to hang out. MUCH appreciated. Oh yeah, and Theresa? ...... you KNOW that Dave and I were only messing on CFR last night!!! Once we start giggling, we cant stop!!
See you ALL next time. Peace.
Billy

Hi Billy, have a good day in the valley. I can tell you more on 615~ And no matter how many times the attn. told me it happens, I was still embarresed he had 2 help me. I mean, how many gd parking structures does Costa Mesa need anyways? I was informed there were 5 prking structures right there, wtf? At least I remembered the number on the space. peace. Billy, that show was spiritual~ You, & Jonesy, Dave, Matt, Macy, Steve, Chester, C.C., Scott and more could not have rocked harder or better!!! Thank you to Billy and to Paul, both of whom may it possible. peace. ck

We're class all the way - we took you to the IHOP, Paul. Only America's finest, and one of the only places to eat I know is open at 4AM.
I know you & Dave were only kidding around on CFR, it was all in good fun. Sorry I have such a filthy mouth!
Thank you so much for the Camp Freddy show, it was unbelievable! Nice to see some familiar faces... the usual suspects, and some new ones. All I have to say is Mountain Song. Mountain Song! As always, you're the sweetest.

Afternoon Billy & Morrison family. Movies. Grudge 2 was good, I think you'll enjoy. I'm hitting the Prestige today, from what I hear it's brilliant.
One question... can we get Chester for ALL upcoming shows? yeee gods, that man is amazing!!!

Hey Paul have fun! You know the paparazzi charmed me and u in2 a photo on the red carpet, what a Hollywood Holiday you must be having! You deserve all the good times. Try not 2 get into 2 much trouble @ the Rainbow! J/k, Have Fun~ C.k.

Ok Billy you KNOW Sue, MB or myself will beg for a NYC show at least once or twice a month on this blog ;-) If you don't ask you won't get...
NICE TV set up in Casa Morrison. I know when I'm in Cali who's doorbell I'm ringing with a bag of microwave popcorn and a couple of DVD's.
Thanks for a little bit of the show, you guys KILLED Highway to Hell! I'm surprised they didn't make you wear a hardhat in your dressing room (safety first!)
Ok I'm bummed you guys aren't doing the Sin Jyn Smyth movie. That must suck getting called in for all these projects and meetings and half of them don't pan out. How can you ever schedule yourself? I mean you could agree to 10 music projects and either all 10 fizzle or all are "a go" and then you over extended yourself.
You and Dave were HYSTERICAL last night on CFR even though you were both exhusted. Dave's webcast...was...well typical Dave. Do you ever look over and think "Christ, there he goes pulling the gym pants down again! Must I look at this??" LOL
Have a GREAT week!

Hi everyone ! Paul I am glad you are havinf a most awesome time.
I went to see The Prestige today. Absolutely freakin' brilliant. It has two really good plot twists plus David Bowie. Don't miss this one.

Thanks for thinking i'm funny!!!!! The door is always open for a cuppa and a natter at my house, we have shares in PGTips(one of the best brands of tea there is)! I don't know if you have the time, but i have uploaded 2 vids temporarily to my myspace page, if you fancy a nose. They are of my 2 yr old, being possibly the worlds youngest The Cult fan in the world, shes a bit of a music fan. the rockier the better, just found out shes an Anthrax fan too. Any news on the UK gigs yet? Hope all is well at the Morrison house.
Ylais, i can't get a message to you, tried but it won't let me! Thanks for the message.

Hi Billy. I thoroughly enjoyed CFR last night. You two have the best chemistry. And for what it is worth, I love the British. Any country that can produce porters and Monty Python is ok in my book. Plus the accent is just sexy. I mean with the webcam up I would have to go with Dave (sorry) but if it was on voice alone...it's all you baby.
One thought - do you think one reason that you and Dave get on so well is that you both tend to be a bit OCD...just a friendly observation. :-)
Have a great week everyone,
~katie

AMAZING photos Wendy! Thanks for posting the link.
Posted by: Caffeinated Sue at October 22, 2006 09:21 PM
Alec - its a B minor mate. But leave the root B out and let the A string ring open as well as the high E string. In other words - the A minor shape, but up two frets! Everyone else can wake up now. Guitar lesson is over.

Hey Billy,
The other night on CF radio Dave asked about whom he would rather hang with a porn star or a playmate. I liked your answer.
Why must one have had to live in hell to be cool? A person that never did drug can’t understand the meaning of life? Can’t understand suffering and pain?
Maybe I misunderstood his reply to his own question or the question for that matter.
Thanks,
Matt S

What a Camp weekend for me - Camp Freddy on Fri & Camp Teddy on Sat! Both RAWKED!!!
Thanx guys for putting on such great shows!

Posted by: ozmerica at October 23, 2006 08:52 AM
Hi Billy,
we are two huge Camp Freddy Fans from Germany and we are constantly reading your blog (and Dave’s too) and listening to Camp Freddy Radio (your German accents suck!!! *lol).
We have been to LA several times, and every time we leave, you guys play a public show there! Last year we had to leave a day before you played the Key Club. This year we had to leave a week before you were on Jay Leno. And we don’t even want to know what is going to happen next year…
As we know that you guys don’t do requests on your radio show, we are not going to ask for a specific song. Please feel free to play a song of your choice for us. We wouldn’t even care if it was Informer. :-)
Well, we hope you guys keep rocking forever even if we are never going to see it happen! (If you really play that show on Christmas, we will try to be there although we will probably fail miserably.)
Love,
Sherri&Terri

Wendy, I love your photos! As always, they are very good. I love 'em~~ It was cool meeting everyone at the show on Friday. Can't believe I almost didn't go, ie., 9 hours at work, long freaking drive, etc. etc., but I am SO DAMN HAPPY I chose to go!!!!! It was the best. Thanks again to Billy and Paul, you 2 are so thoughtful. Cheers!

Hey Billy, Really enjoy reading the blog, just started visiting last week. I really enjoy it. At anyrate how was the Leppard concert a few weeks back ? You need to get Joe Elliott's ass along with Duff McKagan to do some Bowie songs at a Camp Freddy gig. Joe and Duff doing Bowie together would be killer. Have a good one.....Billy

Billy, you kill me. So funny and nice. Thanks for the V-Blog. Did I ever tell you that after the first time I saw you with Camp Freddy at Irving Plaza, in Oct. 2004 that I thought you were scary?! You were SO intense on stage (we were right in front of you) that afterwards, when we were talking to Dave outside, if I'd have seen you I'd NEVER have approached you! Like Peebs always says, "WO!". I was soo wrong, you're a sweetheart.
Anyway, looking forward to the maybe someday return of CF to NY.
oh, my question: Do you have PS3 on preorder (not the blu ray), or do you get perks and have the hookup so you don't have to worry about that?
Love,
Sue

WENDYBIRD RULES....END OF STORY!!!
billy...thankx once again for a killer v-blog....i've been a fan for a long time...but have as yet to be able to get down to so-cal for a CF show....so many thankx for all the hard work u do bringing us lot a sneak peak like u do....lookx like once again i missed another killer show....(u weren't kidding...chester wails!)....anyways long ramble-on longer....i had kind of an obscure question for ya....i always see you clean-shaven and looking pretty like u do....so seein' u in the v-blog lookin a lil scruffy/stubbly was a cool change of pace and made me think of this question.....how difficult is it to shave with your labret piercing? my lip ring's on the right side where i have no hair....but im curious...how do get that middle spot....shave around it? or do you have to actually take out the piercing to do it proper?
yes...odd question....but my inquiring mind wants to know....thankx man....
oh and once again my apologies mate (u know what i mean).......peace........UC13

Billy - the blog is ace, completely hooked and read regularly even if brain asleep at times and don't comment. Kettle definitely on for when you get your bum back over to the UK. (Are you having hobnobs with that?) CFR always greeted with delight - podcasts liven up dull ears on way to work and during lunch time. The US employs an entirely different concept of distance to anything here in the UK cos A - Z here mostly fits in the US's back pocket. I too really want to come over but will have to be next year. Something to look forwards to. Have a great week.
xx

If you are reading this and you want something to do tonight whilst in Hollywood, The Secret Machines are playing totally free tonight at Union Station. The only hook is one must take public transportation and prove it with say the 3.00 Metro day-pass. (just 3 bux) Above, is the bus schedule. It is so accessible for everyone, even for me being 8 miles away from downtown cuz it's freaking Union Station and ALL busses go there~~ Have fun if you go. Nothing beats free. Hope your trip is/was all you hoped it would be and then some. peace, clk

The Secret Machines' quest for public transit
By Sandra Barrera, Staff Writer
Article Last Updated:10/21/2006 08:36:28 PM PDT
Among the Secret Machines' reasons for relocating to New York City from Dallas was to get away from car culture. So, when asked to help raise awareness about public transportation in Los Angeles with a free performance Tuesday night at the historic Union Station, Brandon Curtis says his psychedelic alt-rock trio jumped at the chance.
"The fact that it's normal for one person to get in a car and drive 45 minutes each way to work just doesn't make sense. It just seems like more attention needs to be drawn to mass transit as a possibility," says the singer-keyboardist-bassist, speaking by phone midtour from Iowa City about his upcoming Union Station gig.
Tuesday's free show is part of "Public Displays of Affection," which includes the DJ talents of street artist Shepard Fairey and an art exhibit of Angelenos using public transportation by celebrity photo-blogger The Cobra Snake (aka Mark Hunter).
