LIVE AND DIRECT FROM THE STUDIO
I'm sitting here watching Chris Chaney play the bass line to 20th Century Boy and I have to tell you ..... that guy is fucking ridiculous!!! He just RIPS on that bass like its nothing, AND carries on a conversation while he's doing it!! Its a real pleasure to be working with him. Mike Clink is back in the producers chair, tweaking away with mics, preamps, and lots of equipment with knobs and lights on. Me? I am taking the opportunity to catch up on my websites, and make a bunch of calls. I'll ask about how much detail I am allowed to give you about these tracks we are doing. I don't wanna get in trouble, so the less said the better right now! But I will find out.
My guitar stuff will be arriving shortly, and i will take over from Chris, as he has to leave for another session. I'll spend the rest of the day putting guitars down on two tracks, and re-doing a solo. Yep - a solo. Lets see how it turns out before I start crowing about it!!! But its great to be working in Matts again. It really does sound good in here, and we have a deadline to meet with these songs, so there's no messing about. Just the way I like it.
So - who's watching Supernova? What are our thoughts? Who's the initial front runner? I think that Mr Ryan Star will be causing some conflict in that house before long, but its a little early to say who's got a shot. They can all REALLY sing, thats for sure. And huge props to the guy who walked into the studio and just laid down a scat vocal to the track. If you're not aware, the reality portion of the show is available online, and the site address is over at 6767.com. I, for one, will be avidly watching each week, as I sense quite a bit of drama heading our way over the next three months. Oh yeah - and that Tommy Lee can PLAY!!! Just watching him during the online reality show makes me wanna jump around and go get more tattoos!!! He's the real deal. Big up and respec' goes out to Supernova!!
Better get out of here, as Chris is now done, and its my turn. Photograph courtesy of Getty Images. Me and Benji hanging out in Vegas. And thank you to Wendybird and Theresa for the links to your wonderful pics. Ah ..... good times. Wish me luck, folks.
See ya

Recording at Matts?!?! I hope everyone there is getting good use of the pedals I shipped him.
Im totally into Rockstar already! I FREAKING LOVE Lucas! That guy was the shit! Hands down early front runner... hes a total package (at this point at least) Hes got a great voice- stage personality that screams 'Im a star- fuck you!' And what he did with the Idol track was just killer.
My 8 year old daughter is pulling for Dilana... she fuckin killed it too... so its gonna be a great season!
Take care all!

I liked Dilana too! She was GREAT!
But the guy who sang "Cult of Personality" made my ears bleed and the one girl (the young one) she looked and sounded like she didn't make the American Idol cut so tried out for this show.
I'm bad with names.
So Billy, working at Matt's? How many times have to stepped out for a cigarette?
;-)
Going to see your bassist this weekend and his band the X's.
Later!

Billy,
Supernova,interesting shit for sure.
First off, get away from the cheesy cutaways to the contestants "cheering" each other on. This is the shot of a lifetime, leave the phony cheerleading to American Idol. Second, if I see one more intro featuring a contestant carrying an accoustic guitar on an abandoned street or down a dark alley I think I'll puke.
I'd like to know what the hell whomever chooses the song selection is thinkimg. If I remember correctly, they seem alot like the set of tunes the INXS cast members had last year around episode 1. A Coldplay tune? Supernova should be here to rid us of the scurge that is Coldplay. Let's see somebody tackle "Ace Of Spades" for cryin' out loud. One more thing, stay away from Nirvana, that's borderline sacred ground.
As for the contestants, only Dilana was memorable and that was for her stage presence alone.
Positives? Dave and Gilby, the gloves seem to be off this year which should be quite entertaining.
There you have it.
Thanks,
Jay

ahhh jay great minds do think alike. i agree totally with your assement of the show, the song selection just flat out sucked in my opinion. and other than the chick that sang the jefferson airplane song and the last guy who did billy idol nobody else really stood out to me. please tell me if i'm wrong but dont these 3 guys come from some pretty hard rocin' stock as far as music goes? who the hell thinks there gonna get the gig in this band singing coldplay or the police for gods sake....in the imortal words of Mr. Matt Sorum.....go large or dont go at all...my 2 cents.

I agree with you guys. A lot of them were "American Idol with Tattoo's". When one of them can handle Pantera's "Walk" THEN we are in business.
Who was the one chick, the blonde with the Farrah Faucet do? She had a very good voice but she reminded me of a Vegas lounge act. Did any of them realize they would be in a band with guys from GnR, Motley Crew and Metallica?? So you sing a "cold Play" song? Ummmmmmmmmmmmmm no.

supernova - lukas, dilana, ryan, storm all did well in my opinion. jill's got a great voice but not feeling her so much...i watched the reality portion - phil did well in the studio "la-la'ing" but didn't translate well to stage. i'll have to get my excel spreadsheet going ....this could get really interesting. & i loved that the band & dave/butch were HONEST!
i didn't get zayra but that's me - i'm not there to hear the real thing. go home chris or dana

Why has no one mentioned Chris and his ATROCIOUS rendition of Roxanne!!! Mad props to Gilby for laying it out..."it sucked" and it truly did!
Diliana scared me a little bit but of all of the girls she's the one that could stand in front of Tommy's drum kit and rock the shit out of it with those guys! Jay, you seem to have a problem w/ her song choice..but she was one of the few that I wasn't wishing off the stage within three seconds!
While the other girls may be talented, I think that the majority of them belong on American Idol or even Nashville Star (Patricia looks like one of the finalists from Nashville Star)
As for the guys...who was the dude that had a perpetual impish perma grin on his face? I know that you're stoked to be on TV and trying to get into a band w/ Gilby, Jason, and Tommy..but c'mon dude...try to contain it...it is after all ROCK N' ROLL! Reminded me of someone who should have been standing next to Nick Lachey in a 98 Degrees reunion tour!
That last guy scared me....I know that the boys loved him b/c he made Rebel Yell his own...but...uh uh...not frontman material...(IMO!)
I gotta know though...do they have a PATSY? Because if they do..Chris is certainly it...I am expecting him to GO HOME!
And for the record Billy...I usually detest these types of shows...reality tv has gotten way out of control....but....that being said...this is probably the least painful of all of them! (And Tommy's HOT! ;-)
Billy...any chance of you guest hosting on the show?
Okay..I believe that I have blathered on long enough.....and now I will have to include Rockstar on my long list of "6 Degrees of Dave Navarro To Do List!"

hiya! hope you're having a great time in Matt's studio Billy. that made me chuckle that you said Tommy Lee's drumming makes you want to jump up and get more tattoos. It makes me wanna jump up and dance.
If you were to get another tattoo, what would you get next?

Of Course I watched Supernova. I thought the two best ones were Dilana and Lukas.
I liked Lukas's rendition of Rebel Yell.
Butch Walker Rules. I love him.
This show cannot touch American Idol as far as I am concerned.
I'm glad everyone is watching!
Much Luv, Terri

Man, I can't believe I managed to miss both nights of Supernova.
Note to self ... DVRs are only useful if you remember to program them. Sheesh!
Who ended up with Iris? (I watched the online portion over the weekend) How'd they do?
