THE PREMATURELY TERMINATED V BLOG.

TimesSquare.jpg

I make myself laugh. I really do. I mean, I have these grand plans and schemes ..... "what I'll do is - I'll answer all the qusetions on video, and then edit some live footage inbetween. Then I'll stick it up on the Blog" .... Well, first of all, Ive been back from New York for a couple of days, and have been so tired that I just couldn't look at a computer screen, let alone edit video for a couple of hours. And then, when I finally got around to it last night, I got through about half the questions, and realized that the V Blog was already 5 minutes long!! These things are gonna turn into hour long documentaries if I'm not careful. I'll be entering them into Film Festivals!!! - Hold on, thats not a bad idea. Ive seen some of the Fim Festival entries - 35 minutes of logs floating down a river - hardly riveting entertainment!!! Maybe I should just edit all my V-Blogs together and call it - A Year In The Life Of A Computer Geek???!!! Anyway, because its my Blog and I can do what I want, I just stopped editing. It is what it is - some questions got answered, and the rest are answered in the text below. At least there is a bit of 'Vibe' footage from the outdoor thing. Shakey, and the sound is pretty rough, but it gives you an idea of how cool it was to do.

We did Suffragette City, Roadhouse Blues and Crackerman outside. The inside set can be found over on Daves 6767 blog. (I am just being lazy here - it will ALL be up on the new Camp Freddy site, which will be launched at the beginning of next month). The whole trip was so much fun. Any opportunity to climb up the outside of a building and strap on a guitar should be seized with enthusiasm. A big thanks to everyone who showed up, even those who were a little, shall we say, disgruntled at the lack of volume. What I have to explain is that our hands are tied when it comes to these kind of events. Not only was it a corporate thing, so Camp Freddy has little say in how it goes down, this outside thing was also subject to a myriad of City Ordinances, Noise Restrictions, Time Restraints ..... I mean it was contracted up the ass!!! So it was impossible to do anything but what we did. Saw the DEEZ NUTS and the 6767 banners - MOST impressive!!! And nice to meet a couple of you after the show - hope to see you again.

Lisa - Surrender was chosen because we only had one song to perform in Vegas and we wanted all six members to be a part of the show. That song is sung by Scott Weiland but Donovan does a verse and all the harmonies, so it seemed like the right song to get both our singers in on the action. Plus Duff was along for the ride and he knows that one on guitar. Simple. Selection made.

Mary - Balancing Art and Commerce is a great question. I can tell you that when I am writing music, the commerce part is nowhere to be found. You HAVE to write what turns you on - what gives you goosebumps - what makes the hair stand up on the back of YOUR neck. Now, once that bit is done, THEN you can think about how to proceed. If it makes money, great. But if it doesnt, you can then stand by your music and know it means something to you. With regards to Camp Freddy, we have built it slowly for years, and have made sure that WE have fun at all times. Thats why we dont just go on tour and play the same show every night for a month. It keeps it fun, fresh and ever-changing. The commerce part is bonus.

Spencer - My pre-show routine consists of smoking, drinking coffee, and wishing that all the people that I don't know would GET OUT OF OUR DRESSING ROOM!!!! Its usually pretty hectic in there before a show, and while I understand that a dirty, tiny, smelly room in the back of a venue must be very appealing to a lot of people, I wish they would wait until AFTER the show to come and hang out!!! There's not much time for a 'routine' - no prayers, huddles, chants or ritual chicken slaying for me - I just wait until someone tells me its time to go.

I am SO glad that everyone is liking the new Community. It did come out looking rather fancy!! Rik @ Rated Art is responsible for that. Cheers mate. And our very own Jay seems to be overseeing the vibe rather well, and you lot are having a ball in there. It makes me happy. We WILL do exclusive stuff only available for REGISTERED members, so make sure you sign up. Oh, and while I remember, many thanks to Sweet Soul Sister who sent me the JPG below. A nice pic of Dave and I from the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame thing that we went to with Ozzy and his family.

An all new CFR tonight with Dave and myself - it'll be great to get back in the radio saddle after a week off - tune in if you can, tonight between 6pm and 8pm on Indie 103.1FM. And immediately afterwards, I'm gonna drive down to Palm Desert for a day - no reason, except to get a day of Spa appointments, sunshine, and Easter Food!!!! Apologies for the abrubtly terminated V Blog today - I literally couldnt edit anymore. My eyes were blurry, my head ached from staring at the screen, and the damn thing was 5 minutes long already!! Anyone still on dial up will be there next week downloading the thing!! So I just stopped. Ah....whatever ..... I tried. So I am out of here. I want to wish everyone a VERY HAPPY EASTER. Have a relaxing time and eat all the ...... er......Easter Food(?!) ....... What IS Easter Food? Is it Turkey? Roast Beef? Ding Dongs? Someone enlighten me!!!! Whatever it is, eat tons of it, get fat, pass out on the couch, and do nothing. Ah Holidays .... dontcha just love em .....

Peace

Billy

Happy Easter Billy. I hope the Easter Bunny puts lots of Eggs in your basket. I love the picture taken from behind you up on the platform.

Hello Billy!

In my family, Easter food is usually Ham...and macaroni salad, traditionally made with all the chopped up Easter Eggs found during the hunt...you know, in the olden days when we would hunt real eggs!!! rofl

Enjoy your weekend...I'm gonna be busy for awhile here trying to watch this VBlog :)

Posted by: Cori at April 15, 2006 09:50 AM

Happy Easter!
No Easter for me as it is the Passover Holiday for me (as I sit here eating a whole wheat bagel, what a great jew I am).
I had so much fun at the CF show! It was so worth the 4 hours sleep I got before work the next day. Thanks even if it was short ;-)

Take care,
Robin

Posted by: Peebs at April 15, 2006 10:02 AM

Robin, are you the same Peebs in the pic with Scott Weiland I saw at VR boards...CUTIE!!

anyway, I was trying to explain Passover to my kids in the context of Social Studies Ancient Civilization, yadayada..they DO make the connection when you bring up food. I'm craving a bit of lamb myself! I never could get into the whole Turkey for Thanksgiving, Ham for Easter vibe that my family did.
Well, so, whatever you have Billy, I have a sneaking suspicion Eggs will be involved...make sure you save some room for chocolate truffled ones!!
love to all my 'extended' family

Yes...eggs...deviled eggs...absolutely must add deviled eggs to the "Easter Food" list! :D

Posted by: Cori at April 15, 2006 10:09 AM

Anybody else having trouble watching the VBlog? I get about a minute into it and it just kinda self destructs...

Posted by: Cori at April 15, 2006 10:15 AM

Cori - same with me on the vblog - I knew Billy said it was cut short, I just didn't think it would be THAT short!

Posted by: beth at April 15, 2006 10:21 AM

Happy holiday weekend to all,

Caffeinated Sue

Posted by: Caffeinated Sue at April 15, 2006 10:32 AM

yes Jezzi that would be me. ;-) You are too sweet, personally I think Scott looks hot (as usual) and I have a "ohmygodI'mstandingnexttoScottWeilandbreathebreathe" look on my face.
Caffeinated Sue-My friend and I are either blocked by Billy's legs or between Billy's legs, we were trying to find ourselves.

Passover has the most gross food ever. It's a good thing I am not religious (obviously I am a tattoo'd jew. Oh that would make an excellent screen name wouldn't it?). Matzoh? Dry no taste and beige. Potato kugel? greasy and no taste and beige. Kasha? Gross, no taste and beige. Then the either serve Turkey or Brisket. Beige. The whole table is beige no color and tasteless. Then there is always the elder relatives who hock at you over dinner "soooooo when am I going to attend your wedding???"
I'll pass.
I know in certain nationalities (Greeks and some Hispanics)they serve a Sheep or Goat head at Easter. THE WHOLE HEAD. Eye balls and all. I saw one in the meat case of a supermarket and nearly puked.
Makes my beige and tasteless passover seem appealing doesn't it?? ;-)

Long time reader, first time poster.

Regarding Easter food, Eddie Izzard does a great stand up routine about the hilarity of the chocolate and bunny references and how they relate to the crucifixion and ressurection. Ding Dongs could fit in nicely with candy and eggs in the grand scheme of things.

Anway, it's on his 'Dress to Kill' DVD. Good stuff, if you can tear yourself away from 24. The whole disc is pretty hilarious actually.

Love the V-Blogs and the photos. Thank you!

Happy Holiday weekend everyone!

Not only is CFR a repeat but whoever is at the controls is repeating the same part over...

I felt like I was in the movie "Groundhogs day" for a minute....

Posted by: Peebs at April 15, 2006 06:30 PM

Billy, the making these v-blogs, and footage of CF live, on the road, you have is a great idea.
(do it,do it! hee hee) It can just be like a long v-blog. Yeah, I've seen a few of those film festival entries myself. (why do so many people take the 'Andy Warhol' route? hey, he was a genius, nothing against him) Why does BBC1 even take the Warhol route these days? hours of the outside of a building. Sometimes, I feel like I'm the Man who Fell to Earth! Seriously. David Bowie watching all those tv screens at once. (I love that film)
Thanks for answering our questions. That's the best way to choose a song- everyone included. Very cool. I like it.
huge hugs

Billy-

Thanks for the elaboration on my question dude! Ya know, that one didn't seem so long...

You should definitely fire up a full length for a primo film fest debut! If you want it, it must be done haha!!!

Posted by: Spencer at April 16, 2006 12:42 AM

Hey Billy If you were really rocknroll you would have gone the stage dive! he hehe
only kidding - what a wild experience.. good on you mate.

Posted by: leroy at April 16, 2006 06:32 AM

I think Lamb is the traditional Easter food.
(makes me feel a little sad, especially when I was in Wales, and saw all those darling little lambs. here they are just being born, so too late to be Easter dinners)
Simnel Cake is THE traditional food.

Posted by: ylais at April 16, 2006 08:03 AM

Hot Cross Buns. Hot Cross Buns. One a penny two a penny. Hot Cross Buns.

(we had steak on Good Friday. not traditional, but so what?! :) )

Posted by: Peebs at April 18, 2006 08:25 AM

i'm sure it was a lot of work for just one song, but the autorox thing looked pretty sweet!

Posted by: hank wood at April 18, 2006 07:51 PM

All I can say is thank goodness they were on only 1/2 into the show! It was only 30 mintues of my life I will never get back. But another GREAT Camp Freddy performance! And ahhhhhh Freemont St....so cheesy you have to love it!
But I now know why I never watch Spike TV before.

Posted by: Peebs at April 18, 2006 08:21 PM

I was lying on the couch like a vegetable flipping channels when I realized it was already 1/2 hour in. I freaked out thinking I might have missed it. When I changed to that channel it was on commercials. It came back on and Pam Anderson went right into the intro and BOOM, I got my CF fix. It was brilliant!! (both the performance AND the fact that I didn't have to watch any of the rest of the show!)

Billy, you guys looked great on tv. Maybe it's time for the Camp Freddy TV show? HA HA!

Posted by: flamingheart at April 18, 2006 11:36 PM

Dave's posted Camp Freddy on Spike TV on his blog! Yeah!
