THE NEW YORK V-BLOG

NYC.jpg

Welcome to an all new V-Blog – this time cobbled together from the streets of New York. Large file size, High Speed Connection preferred, blah blah blah!! I think I do this stuff more for the fun in shooting and editing footage, than for what I actually say on them! I totally get into editing the footage, and start to see shots, framing, segments etc when I am out with a camera …. Film excites me and I would love to get more into it at some point. The actual content of the blogs ….well, its usually just me waffling on about some shit or other!! The fun for me is learning Final Cut, playing about with effects and transitions, and making small movies. Maybe I should cut a Circus Diablo video together. What do you think?

So ….. What an honor it was to attend the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction banquet on Monday night. And what an amazing experience to see the ultimate heavy rock band accept their well overdue induction … Ladies and Gentlemen …… BLACK SABBATH!! It was obvious that the band were genuinely touched by Lars and James’ (Metallica) emotional speeches, and still looked like the Rock Gods that they are, when they went up on stage to accept the very cool looking statues that are the Induction Awards. We went to New York to support our friend Ozzy and cheer Sabbath on, and the whole trip was a lot of fun. Dave had traveled in from Atlantic City, so it was great to meet up with him and do a couple of nice meals and hang out. The actual ceremony was interesting, to say the least. As we all know, the Sex Pistols were inducted as well, and true to form, declined to actually attend the ceremony. Instead, they ran a montage of film clips (which for me, as always, made the hair stand up on the back of my neck) and then read aloud the letter that the Pistols faxed to the Hall Of Fame committee … I believe I was the only one in the room who stood up and cheered after they finished reading it!!!

My wife Jennifer had a rather bizarre incident in the bathroom. She was standing in line, holding a programme of the event, when she felt some movement around her ankle. She thought it was the hem of her dress, so she just flicks her ankle and thinks nothing of it. Suddenly, she looks down and a huge cockroach is tearing up her dress and making for her chest!! She panics, (and I’m sure the roach realizes this, and makes a bee line for her tits!) and Jen starts swatting the roach with the programme. And she nails herself right in the lip. I mean a proper, ‘my husband beats me when he comes in’ fat lip!! Jen comes out of the bathroom spitting blood, and with a lip that would give Angelina Jolie a run for her money!! Poor girl. The roach was last seen heading off into the night, muttering something about how hard it is these days to cop a feel from the chicks.

Other Inductees included Lynryd Skynryd (who performed Sweet Home Alabama with Kid Rock, and Freebird), Blondie (see below), Miles Davis, and A+M records partners Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss. Now then – lets examine the Blondie drama. The Original line up were inducted, but Debbie Harry chose to perform a couple of Blondie songs with her current band. Naturally, the OG members were a little ….. put out ….and voiced their feelings and opinions. A little awkward, but understandable. As Dave has already posted, Debbie Harry’s performance was fantastic, but it was a little marred by the knowledge that the original guys were standing watching her perform their songs after just being inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame!!!

Metallica played a Black Sabbath tribute, which blew the roof off the usually uptight Waldorf Astoria Hotel (home of the Waldorf Salad, no less!!) and people were not really sure what to make of the sudden rise in volume, the strobe lights, and the immense power of a band like Metallica, playing huge Black Sabbath riffs. Our table were all on their feet, but most of the room looked a little nonplussed. Love it!!

Julia – The piercing thing was just one of those ‘current affairs’ type shows. And they wanted to highlight the trend back then. I have never thought too long or hard about stuff like that, so when they asked me to do it, I figured … “why not”. And I too was a little pissed off with the caption under me on the VH-1 thing. They told me it would say Camp Freddy. Whatever.

Hankwood – Freebird was great. I have seen them play a few times, and they always play that song (well, they kinda have to, right?) and the version they did in New York was, as always, fantastic. A classic Southern Rock anthem. With tons of guitars!

And now I am back in LA, catching up, making some plans, and getting on with it. We have decided that in a few weeks we’ll put a Circus Diablo track up on the MySpace profile – probably the cover of Ants Invasion that we did (check out the first few bars in todays video). So hit the site (www.myspace.com/circusdiablo), check out the profile, become a friend, and be a part of that community over there. And we are also trying to see if we can throw a show together in Los Angeles in June. No details at all right now, but it seems that we might have a window in the schedules, so it only seems right to get out there and have a good night. You’ll read the details here first. Have a great day, enjoy the V-Blog, and I’ll see you soon. And by the way ….. I know its not a statue of Roger Moore! Just being sarcastic. Its really a statue of Dudley Moore.

Just don't let the Carmen/Dave rumour mill sweep you guys up in its wake, I can see it now....a Weekly World News cover like the Bat Baby, only with Jen attacked by a killer Waldorf cockroach..

is it just me, or does anyone else see the irony that Ozzy, the infamous bat eater, was the picture of decorum amidst all the Hall of Fame controversy?

Rock and Rollers never die, they just gain some perspective...

love to you and yours!

Thanks for an amazing VBlog Billy...yet more of your many talents becoming apparent with this one :)

And...Welcome Home!

Well Billy, I saw pics of you and Dave on wireimage and very handsome I must say.
Looks like you both had a terrific time.

As for Blondie- the 2 members (Frank and Nigel) that didn't get to play on stage w/ them, apparently sued the band many years back. The rest of Blondie were angry for that reason.
I got that cleared up for myself.

well
glad you are well.
much love

Billy, this was a great Vblog. Ants Invasion at the start, brilliant by the way, first time I have heard it (by CD)...I'm on the way over to myspace and praying (begging) that the full version is up. I liked the way you edited the beginning of the vblog, it really "felt" like NY.

Peace!

I have to wait til I'm at work to hear the VBlog (speed thing ya know)... looking forward to it. I can't even imagine hearing Metallica playing Sabbath. I'm sincerely jealous.

Too late to tell Jen to keep a stiff upper lip (badadum...TISH). Sorrrrrry! Horrible bad joke... still had to do it. I hope she's healing quickly.

Circus Diablo, June, LA... YES! Front row as usual please...thank you very mucha! Glad you are home Billy!

This is all cool shit Billy. Too bad about that roach thing though, that sucks...

Your mini cinema bent is quite nice, dig those hints o' green. Sounds like you had a rad NYC voyage, I'll keep an ear out on the Myspace for the sound of C.D... Make that vid!!!

...heh heh. I watched the Vblog, didn't read too well last night (old age folks). Weeks? Oh well, haha. It will be good to hear the full version of Ants Invasion when it gets up. Maybe you will replay it on CFR sometime too.

Poor Jennifer, I would have probably done more than burst a lip trying to get that thing off of me....I hope her lip is better now.

Great idea about the CD video, I remember the Drive Me Video you done for Doheny it was first class, Lisa thought that a professional had done it.
I have the feeling that Jen is not going to be able to forget the cockroach incident for a long time How much did you all take the mickey.

Question...How much time do you spend putting your V-Blog together, as in filming editing and so forth?

Thanks for all the time.
David

Billy, will you be making a guest appearance on Rockstar 2 (Supernova)?

The cockroach story definately gave me the willies.
:shudder:

'I love New York,I love New York, and there's no place like it.'

watching the sex pistols god save the queen on kerrang, which reminded me to tell you
well done for cheering them at the induction ceremony. YEAH!!!

Billy , I'm with Lisa tell Dave you want to be a guest judge on the new season of RS.

Yes to the Circus Daiblo video!

Looks like you had a great time in NY. I read the letter the Pistols wrote concerning the hall of fame. priceless.

Thanks Billy! Gave me chills reading what you wrote about the ceremony.

Poor Jen! I hope she's ok (cringe). I would have just died!

CF & CD are lucky to have their own 'in house' video director Billy. I like what you did at the start of the vblog a lot!

So sorry to hear about Jen's 'roach horror. Hope she has recovered enuf by now for it to be a funny memory for her too. Although, the thought of a 'roach attack never garners more than nervous laughter from me...I hate them! brrrr
You know, in Florida, they FLY! ARRRGGHHHHH!!!!!

Billy,

Speaking of the new Rock Star: Supernova..

From a professional musicians standpoint, when does celebrity overtake the art itself and when does the celebrity manifest itself into parody?

Seems like the line is getting thinner by the second, just another avenue to raise the fame profile.

Any thoughts?

Thank you,
Jay

With Daves announcement today:

"The Panic Channel: We are currently routing a three week, 16 date special limited club tour somewhere in May through June. Awwww hell yeah! More news on that as it comes in. I will post cities and dates as soon as I know."

A girl can't help but imagine how fabulous it would be if, say, Circus Diablo jumped on the bill too!!!

What do you think Billy??? :D

Posted by: Cori at March 17, 2006 03:56 PM

Great question, Jay....and good idea, Cori.

Billy,
Will Scott be on CFR anytime soon? And will he be getting a CORE tattoo? And your filmaking is brilliant. I like the idea of some Circus Diablo filmed with the Morrison flair. Looking forward to it.

Have a great weekend everyone,
Bonita

Billy, what is your opinion of copyrighted cds?

I feel that since I pay for the cd I should be able to put it in my mp3 player. I was surprised when I tried to put my VR cd on mp3 and it would not translate.

I understand someone wanting to protect their product ,but it makes the rest of us jump through hoops so to speak.

Luvxxx, Terri

Posted by: Terri at March 18, 2006 05:16 AM

Yeah Bonita and Cori, I like the idea of Circus Diablo doing shows with TPC as well. It seems it would be easier if Camp Freddy were on board though. I think that all would be good.

Will "The Cult" be on tour at the same time? Hum, have to surf and read, haha.

It would be great for some "guest" appearances! =-)

Posted by: stardreme at March 18, 2006 05:39 AM

Circus Diablo & TPC on the same bill??

THUD! Boing! YESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!

(grovelling ensues).. .Oh please oh please oh please!

Hey Billy
I'm glad that your wife is doing better after the cockroach incident.
It's great news that CF is playing NY in April. I might actually be able to see you guys (I live in NY). Since you're performing outside prior to the private show, do you know if there's a formality or I can just show up? Do you know which members are playing that night?

Thank you.
Keep Rocking!
