THE BIRTHDAY V-BLOG

VBlog10Pic.jpg

Birthdays. I’ve never really been one to hold a huge party, celebrating the fact that I’ve managed to hold on to another year on this planet. There have been many years in the past when it’s seemed a birthday has marked ‘one year nearer to not having to be here at all!!’. But these days I feel a little differently about taking part in the human race, and yesterdays birthday was a nice, low key, relaxed affair. My close friends wished me well, my wife bought me some cool new dunks and took me for a nice meal, and I let one of my closest friends tattoo me. Dave and myself finally did the CORE tattoo over at Mark Mahoney’s Shamrock Social Club on Sunset Blvd. And Mark let Dave do a bit of my tattoo, and me do a bit of Daves. That’s kind of an intimate feeling, letting someone actually color your skin with needles!! See todays V-Blog for a quick look at the proceedings. Thanks to all of you who posted, mailed and emailed Birthday wishes to me – really made my day. And by the way.....why "Core"? Well, basically. although Camp Freddy has had a huge rotating door of guest artists appear with us over the last few years, there are five core members, and Dave and I are two of them. So we decided that we would remind ourselves of that!! Stand by for Sorum and Donovan to join us, once they see the majesty of Mark Mahoney's work!!

WARNING: The V-Blog today is over 8 minutes long, which means a LARGE file size. High Speed Internet Connection is STRONGLY advised. Either that, or a lot of patience!! If we find that it is just too long for you guys, I'll stick to shorter blogs, and divide them up into Part One and Two in the future. In fact its probably too big for the net, but I'm gonna try it anyway.

And now we get on with another year!! My life is blessed and I continue to be able to play guitar and make music, be married to an amazing woman, and have the kind of friendships in my life that I never dreamed existed. We’ll be finished with the Circus Diablo record by the end of next week. Seems like we might attempt to make it a full album. We have the material, and we want to try and get as much of it down as possible. With the time restraints that we have, maybe we’ll do a couple of ‘live in the studio’ tracks and play them all together, as a band. Minimal production. We are also going to do an acoustic version of one of the songs. It’s a way of getting as many tracks onto the record as we can, in the very short time available to us. Most albums take two or three months to make. We are doing this one in 14 days!! We’ll see – I’ll give you a track listing once we finish next week.

Not a lot else to tell you right now. Still waiting on some Freddy news. And still working on scheduling the rest of the year. Its a strange one, when you get asked to do quite a bit of work, but other balls are still in the air. You have to figure out if you should say no to this job, in case that job works out for you. But what if that one doesnt pan out. Then you've said no to this one, and you're left with nothing. I spend a lot of my time trying to figure out the best move. Quality problems, for sure, but problems nonetheless. I eventually find myself just leaving it all up to the Universe. If I try and control how it all works out, I drive myself crazy. I believe in 'If its meant to be, then it will be". Doesnt make the waiting any easier, though!! So check out the V-Blog, have a great day, and I’ll be back at the weekend. You are all a huge part of my daily life – thank you.

Peace

Billy

Awesome tattoo! Happy (belated) birthday, and it's good to hear that you had a good one. Can't wait to hear the Circus Diablo stuff after last week's V-Blog!

I tried to post birthday wishes yesterday, but received a message that it needed to be approved... not sure what happened to that comment, so Happy Belated Birthday!

Love the v-blog and the new tattoo... Navarro could have a new career if the whole music thing doesn't work out. (I'm KIDDING, of course)

Wow, Billy what a sexy place you put that tattoo!
I saw Dave's on the back of his neck.
Happy belated Birthday!

Billy I have some questions for you.

Since you work out and stay in shape , what is your favorite indulgent food?

It's fun to indulge occasionally,right?

Also what CDs are you listening to now?

Congrats Billy!!!

Very glad you had a great B-day. Thanks for giving us your greatest V-blog to date. That was very rad!

Thanks also for your opinion on the Stones lyric thing. I've heard, it turns out, that Mick did NOT actualy drop a lyric, they cut his mike!!!
FUCK whoever was arrogant enough to do that. It's just terrible and shows what a true pro Mick is that he didn't freak out over it.

Posted by: Spencer at February 10, 2006 05:30 PM

In “Start Me Up,” the show’s editors silenced one word, a reference to a woman’s sexual sway over a dead man. The lyrics for “Rough Justice” included a synonym for rooster that the network also deemed worth cutting out.

Do y'all believe that?? I mean the song Rough Justice ia all over the radio.

Ridiculous.

Luv xx , Terri

That was an awesome blog, Billy!! The tats are way cool....of course you knew I'd say that. And the fact that you each did a little of the other's tattoo makes it especially great. I've done one tattoo, a small skull on my hubby's leg, and decided I'd leave the "giving" to him, and I'll just remain on the "receiving" side. Glad you had a good birthday and thanks for letting us share part of it.

Posted by: Bonita at February 10, 2006 07:55 PM

You finally got the CORE tats done! YES! Excellent, what a great way for you to spend your birthday, and I love that you and Dave took turns inking each other. There's trust... that is an awesome thing.

Question for Sunday... does it still sting?

Sorry about the tooth.. ouch. I had to figure you bounced off of it once or twice, didn't realize you lost a tooth a few times.

I'm hoping to hear that confirmation of a CF gig soon. I've been dyin' for another show, and we'll get to see the new tats! Have a great week!

SO many balls (in the air) so little time. But it's better than having no balls at all.

Loved the vblog tattoo experience. MUST schedule that CF show soon to show off the new ink!

Billy, happy birthday man!

Speaking of tattoos and reading several comments above mine, any way we can share artwork amongst the folks here?

Posted by: Shad at February 11, 2006 02:22 AM

yep waaayy too long ... had to axe the idea of enjoying the v blog.
In any event, Happy birthday doll, since you have so much experience behind you in this life i would imagine you have a book ?
Experience is a terrible thing to waste... especially when there are so many out there that who lack it...

Posted by: sexsinger at February 11, 2006 06:13 AM

Great to see you two having your inks done, it amazes me nowadays that a tat studio looks more like an operating theatre. When I had my first one done in the very early 70s it was done in a wooden shack underneath the pier in Gt Yarmouth, the artist had a bottle of brandy under the table as a pain killer for those who had the larger inks, I have a feeling that by the state of my tats that he used to drink most of the brandy over the course of the day. Glad you enjoyed your birthday.
Must also say
HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY WISHES TO TINA.
Take the rest of the year off with pay, tell your boss I said it would be ok, you deserve to follow your dream.
If your boss says no tell him to have a word with me.

Ahhh, the Shamrock Social Club....good times!!
I've been there twice, once, with a fellow 6767er, and once, after the Camp Freddy Katrina Benefit with my boy, and another 6767 family member. My son has decided that's where he will get his first tattoo. Me, well, I am known for my severe committment phobia....

Did you get your card from me yet? I believe there is a pic of you, sans tattoo, in there....ironic? psychic? ahhaa

Terri, Happy Belated Birthday to you as well, and tina...I knew it was yours from the Panic Community boards...speaking of which, another question for Billy. By the way, thanks SO much for the mixing/mastering explanation!

When can we expect Camp Freddy site update?
Do you think there will ever be a Circus Diablo message board?

oops, that was two...
Have a great day, Billy, you are a part of my daily life as well, as you might have guessed.
love to all,
jezzi

Billy,

With your career progressing and moving in multiple directions, do you find yourself missing
touring and the aspects of playing live/performing on a regular basis? Or, on the contrary, have you reached a point personally and professionally where that's maybe not as important?

Please keep the long v-blogs coming, they're
entertaining as hell.

Thank you,
Jay

Happy Birthday Billy.
intriguing - So what does the "engineer" do during the process? (now that you explained mixing...)
Your explanations are wonderful to those like me outside the industry but a huge fan of music and curious about the process.

It's great to have great mates init?!

Happy Birthdays also to Tina & Terri xx

I'll echo everyone's comments about belated birthday wishes.

Thanks for answering the 'source of income' question. I wasn't sure if that was a question you'd be up for responding to. It was interesting to hear the Gibson stuff is non-monetary...I guess I had it in my head that it was some kind of sponsership arrangement...you know pictures of you in guitar mags advertising their wares etc. And you answered just what I wanted to know...that you do actually do other work than just what you talk about on the blog. Hey...I never doubted that you worked hard...just never knew what it was that you did! :)

I see that Dave isn't doing CFR tonight. I know I've written this before to you (and I've posted this on his blog without much attention) but can you PLEASE ask him to get the podcasts happening again...last one was about a month ago! I know you replied he does this for free and all that...but just a gentle reminder for all those unable to listen live.

Thanks man!

Billy, great vblog. Thank you for answering my question, and other questions.
Happy birthday to Tina, and Terri.

Jez, asked this, and funnily enough..I was also thinking about will we have boards on here somewhere? Circus Diablo, Billy Morrison..whatever..just a forum would be super cool, doesn't have to be anything fancy, and I'd really appreciate it. :D

What a surprise that Jez and I were on the same wavelength! :P

Posted by: ylais at February 12, 2006 02:52 AM

I think a board would be fun , too.

That's a good idea.

HEy Billy!

VBlog's rule!

I have a question for you...

IF you could build your dream band who would be in it? (either dead or alive)

Thanks!
