STIMULATOR RISE!!
I couldn’t wait. I had to fix the situation, and it needed fixing NOW!! So rather than wait until February for the new Intel Mac, I bought a new laptop yesterday, and I am back in action. HUGE shout to the boffins at Mac Hollywood who just dropped everything and made it all work. I hung out there for a while and I gotta say that those guys have some stories to tell. I really need to suggest to Dave that we call them up on the show, because they all listen to Indie 103.1 anyway, and if we can get this one guy on the phone with all the stories ….. oh never mind. Tune in to CFR on Sat and we’ll see what happens.
So – business as usual. Off today for a gig in the snow and I am excited to take the new computer and do a blog from Sundance. I’ll attempt to grab Duffy for a quick word or two as we are going up together. Maybe he’ll shed some light on The Cult reformation. And by the way – how cool is that? More news – hopefully from the proverbial horses mouth. And I’ll try and sneak some NAMM footage in there as well. Lets see how I do remembering to do all this!!
So I have been getting the old Stimulator tracks together for this proposed album that I wanna stick out in a little while. They really were pretty hardcore! Its great to listen to them again – I can pick holes in the mixing and hear all kinds of stuff that I would do differently now, but my plan is to put them out exactly as they were mastered in 1998. I’m hoping to add the Doheny tunes as well, and basically release everything that never came out. If the music business doesn’t wanna play ball, then I’ll do it myself! So to that end, I have dragged out the video for Strike Number One (the second Stimulator single), transferred it to NTSC DVD, ripped it, saved it ….. and here it is! CLICK HERE FOR STIMULATOR VIDEO. I intend to put everything Stimulator on the Stimulator page on the King Mob Music site, and of course I will link it here. That is where I’ll have the record when I put it all together. But I wanna talk about what the band was, who was in it, how we got signed to Geffen, and why the album never came out. I’ll get around to doing that soon – maybe put a few pics up, and have the video and the record up as well. Be aware that the video is not the best quality and the usual large file size applies (I kept the sound in Stereo on this one, so its about 48Meg). It is a seven year old VHS video that has been transferred to US NTSC DVD format. It has obviously suffered in the transfer, but I hope you enjoy it anyway. And keep an eye on the King Mob Music site as I am trying to keep that updated.
Gonna throw a few things in a bag and get moving here. I’ll answer any questions already posted from up in Park City, and post them as the Sunday Selection. Final reminder for NAMM – Saturday at the Gibson booth at 1.00pm – and Dave and I will be running back to LA to do another CFR afterwards. And while I was searching through old Stimulator pics, I came across todays shot of me getting tattooed. I LOVE it!!! I’m off and running – peace everyone.
Billy

Billy,
Question for the Sunday Selection, how'd your relationship with Ozzy come about?
Love the Stimulator stuff as well, thank you. I haven't heard Barry Jepson's name in years, had no idea he was involved.
Thanks,
Jay

Billy, in every video/photo I see of you you're always smoking... are you really a chain smoker, or is it just part of your "image"?

I've been trying to access my memory banks on this for a while..Flesh for Lulu. I saw them in London, and I can't recall where. It was a club. Lol. That helps. I think it was 1985 in the summer. Didn't you say you were tech for them? Was it around then?

Just checked out the Stimulator stuff and I'd buy that CD if it was ever released.
Good stuff, Mate ! !
Got more ? Let's have it.

Billy I am glad you got a new laptop.
I cannot wait to hear straight from the horse Duffy.
Make sure you also tell Duffy we love it when he is on CFR with you!
Have fun at Sundance. Are you going to see any of the films?
If you do give us reviews.

feeling a little Ren and Stimpy coming on..happy happy joy joy...I read a review by someone who was at Macworld saying that the laptops were giving off a bit too much heat, so, personally, I'm glad you decided to not wait...takes a bit of the jonesing away. It reminds me of shopping for a new car whilst your old one is still running, you don't want them to see your desperation..ok, rambling again...have FUN, see some movies, wear a parka, you know, soak it all in!!
See and hear you Saturday!

Hiya Billy,
Good to hear you're back on track without too much loss of data. I'm guessing 'backup' will now become your middle name.
Your tattoo pic was timely...I've been meaning to ask some questions about your tatts. Did you get lots of smaller ones over a long period of time (eg the way Dave has done) that eventually amalgamated into sleeves or did you always aim that when you'd get inked it'd be the whole arm(s) that got done?
Also, do you ever worry about what they're going to look like many years from now or do you not give a rats? I see older guys with tatts and they've faded or just dissolved into one big blob that bears no resemblance to the original artwork.
Finally did you get most of your ink done in the UK or US?
Have a good one...

ALL THE POWER TO YOU ...
For marching forward on your own with your album project. I'll make anything in my powers to get me a copy when it's out.
Please tell Billy D that's been tooo ficking long since he and Ian brought The Cult machine to Brazil, and, as usual, there are THOUSANDS of crazy brazilian rockers waiting to go insane at the shows...
Have a good one at Park City !

Hey Billy,
Loved your work with The Cult, I was wondering if you had any information re: any Cult shows besides what has been announced so far?
Posted by: Mike at January 20, 2006 08:10 PM
Hey Billy,
Well it has been crazy busy with me. Super Bowl is coming to Detroit and there is a huge gala/fundraiser that is happening in Windsor next week, so I have been busy with all of that.
Tell Billy, not having the Cult is like a junkie not getting another hit. The withdrawls have been painfull...can't wait for another fix!
A ?...Treo or a Blackerry? My boss might get me one beacuause of all the extra work I have been helping her with... :)
Have fun at Sundance and glad things worked out with your computer :)

And one other thing...
I'm wondering, since you're such a huge Pistols fan, whether you have this book:
I was thinking of getting a copy but thought I'd first get the review of someone who is in the know.
Thanks,
Daniel

Billy, the pistols were a huge influence on you but who (if any) in todays music influences you the most?
Sorry for always asking the in depth questions as well. Love the stimulator stuff mate and i cant wait to hear some circus, hopefully it wont be too long away.
Cheers.

I have the Kerrang! review of Strike Number One somewhere [or "Stroike Numer One" as they said you sang it]. It's in my Pitchshifter clippings as they cross reference you with them for it. Anyway I'll scan it if you want?
I've also been tidying up my office as the niippers toys have to come in here cos we've got a new one due in March. Anyway I found a diary from 1998 and it has a 'Stimulator - Pleasure Through Pain' sticker on it, I'd forgotten.

I'm trying to get some peeps together for the On the Rox show...so, look for me!!
