DIAGNOSIS

Wow. From the emails and posts, to the candle-lit vigils and the naked girls dancing the 'sick laptop' dance, you guys stepped up to the plate!! And the end result is a mixed one. The laptop officially passed away late last night. Hard drive failure and a corrupted logic board were the official causes of death. They did manage to rescue most of the data from the machine, so I will be transfering that over to this computer after Sundance, and I consider myself lucky to have other machines around, so that I can continue everything. Its funny - I was trying to justify buying one of the new Mac laptops that come out in February. Now I dont need to justify anything. I have to buy a new laptop anyway! So I'll be without portable computer power until they are released (Oh NO!! what will I do for three weeks!!) I do have alternate methods for doing video blogs, so they will continue to arrive as and when I get around to filming them. Which brings me to ......

Sundance. I am really looking forward to that. We fly out tomorrow, and play outside, at the base of the mountain in Park City, Utah on Friday night at 7.30pm. Its right outside The Canyons hotel, so if you are up at the Film Festival, stop by and hang out. Its not a Camp Freddy show, but a few of the usual suspects will be there, and we are all doing it as a reason to spend a couple of days in the snow, maybe a bit of skiing or snowboarding, and some rock and roll thrown in for good measure. We fly back late Friday night and I have an early morning call for NAMM the following day, so I will be the one in the corner at Gibson's booth on Saturday with shades on, getting a quick nap behind the Les Pauls!!

I'll be with Matt up at Sundance, so hopefully we can schedule another week in his studio to finish off the Circus Diablo tracks. As soon as they are done, I can begin the process of getting them out. We plan do do a few licensing deals to help get the EP out to a few different places, and of course, once the website is functional, they will be available on there as well. I'll talk to Billy about some shows at the end of the year, as he will be busy with The Cult for a while. More news as I get it.

A new video blog will appear on Sunday (hopefully shot on location in the stunningly beautiful winter wonderland of Park City, Utah, and maybe even a glimpse from the madness of NAMM - now there's an idea!) so I hope you have a great few days, and I will be back when I can.

Peace

Billy

RIP little laptop...you were a good and faithful servant. At least most of your data was spared!

Have a blast in Utah (kinda seems like an oxymoron, huh?) and be safe.

So I gather you will not be alongside Billy with The Cult this time around? Sorry to hear that...

Good news!!! I recently had a hard drive crash and I lost 5 years worth of digital pictures of my kids...I am still in the wife's dog house over that one. I now own an external hard drive and am doing regular image back-ups of my internal drives. I am so glad you were spared my fate. Now if only I could do something about the wife's being pissed about it cuz it's lonely on the couch! lol:) Sounds like you will have a kick ass time at sundance. enjoy!

Have a lot of fun there Billy. And I can't wait to hear C.D. tracks once you guys put them out there.

Glad that most of the data was retrieved, and a new laptop..that's always fun.

Enjoy Sundance!

Sorry to hear about the ending of your laptop. Been there before my friend. Guess we all don't realize sometimes how much we rely on our computers. Then again, happy computer shopping! :D

And Ian? How could he? Hitting your head like that. Gain control of your instrument man! I think I once heard something about David Lee Roth swinging his mic around and slamming himself good on the head. I'm sure it's happened more then we know.

I remember about hearing about some of Def Leppard's early shows and Steve Clark did this big Pete Townsend windmill setup and when he struck the guitar strings....no sound. D'oh! So much for the big setup, ha ha.

Thanks for sharing Billy and have fun in Utah!
Peace,
~Muse

Nice to hear that all your computer woes will work out for you in the end, Billy.
Also glad to know of more V-blogs to come, one from NAMM and Sundance would be rad no doubt!

Billy

Glad to hear all your data was not lost. Dude you must be relieved. Talking about guitar shows and NAMM what is your favourite guitar tone/sound from another artist i.e Van Halen's brown tone

Have a good one

You didn't lose all of your data... AND now have a valid reason to buy a new Mac in just a few short weeks! Sounds like a win/win situation with a valuable lesson tucked inside -- back up your hard drive!

Actually, your computer mishap finally motivated me to transfer all of my data off of my old machine... much of which can be seen on my MySpace page. What do you think? A bit too much? =)

And while on the topic of MySpace, I think that having someone maintain a page for you would be a great idea... the Camp Teddy boys alone have at least 1000 friends between them. A few "Billy" bulletins would get the word out, and ulimately bring more traffic here. So, outsource away!

Have an amazing time at Sundance. Bring me back some free swag, won't you?

Billy,

Thought you might need a laugh in these sordid times of laptop hell..

It's amazing what kind of shit you can find while Google-ing..

A good day to all,

Hey Billy,
Glad to hear most of your data was salvaged. I won't be in Utah but I do hope to catch you at the NAMM show. You'll be the one with snow still on your boots.
And next time you want a new MAC, you don't have to justify it by trashing your old hard drive, just go buy it. Hugs!

okay, own up! who was dancing the naked laptop dance? :D

Posted by: ylais at January 19, 2006 08:21 AM

I hired the 100 girls to do the naked lap top dance. I have to have a little word with their shaman, btw... it was supposed to WORK entirely.

I told her no donkeys, but she wouldn't listen.

It would be bad and wrong if I did it personally....
