GIFTS FOR THE ONES YOU HATE!!

So here it is again. Holiday season. The time of year when you randomly feel obliged to buy something from Sharper Image for the Uncle or Aunt that you havent spoken to since last year .... when they called to thank you for the swiss army knife that folds into a compass that you bought them!! I want to start a poll - a list of the perfect presents for the people that, quite frankly, you dont want to buy for!! What about Self-Help books for that family member that, in your opinion, needs all the help they can get!! Or maybe a years subscription to Guns And Ammo magazine for your estranged second cousin, twice removed, that is a founding member of Greenpeace? I have never understood the pressure that comes with the whole present-buying thing. I mean, parents, wives, girlfriends, boyfriends .... I get it. We love those people. We also know them a little, which means we can buy a gift that actually means something. But how many times have you found yourself in The Discovery Channel store in the Mall, staring at a DVD of 'The Amazing Planet' and trying to think who you could give it to ?

It might just be me, but I always end up getting stuff that means nothing, for people that I don't even know!!! I could always just buy the March Of The Penguins DVD for everyone - I bought it for Jen the other day (cos she really wanted it) and it was just boring. Not even cute. Just overly long shots of Penguins walking backwards and forwards from the ocean to the breeding ground. 70 miles each way. And they do it four times a year. You'd think they would start breeding a little closer to the food source, wouldnt you?

Anyway - Xmas rant over (for now) - the pics are from Sundays Camp Freddy show at The Palms, courtesy of our boy, Todd. Thanks mate. And I loved all the Mark McGrath captions. It really looked like he was about to punch me straight in the face in yesterdays pic! Not a lot going on now here in LA. A few parties, a few events, but most of Hollywood start to leave town and head for the winter getaways in Aspen, or Hawaii, or some other home away from home. The streets get a lot easier to drive on, no one is available on the phone, and I start to settle into holiday mode. Which means a lot of couch time. I know I'll go crazy with nothing to do, so I really need to get moving on some of the stuff I keep meaning to do, but never ACTUALLY do.

I intend to try and learn some more about websites during this time, and I also want to try and get a song or two recorded for that covers EP I was talking about. Of course, Dave and I still have the CFR shows to look forward to - I know Dave has something special planned for the Xmas Eve show, and this coming week will be myself and Mr Matt Sorum, holding down the fort. That obviously means no webcast (as Dave is the man who can, as far as that stuff goes) but I am sure it will be a lot of fun, nonetheless. I have now officially rambled on for long enough. Pilates and shooting today, followed by a party to hit tonight. What a strangely balanced day I have planned! Love you all. Peace.

Woo Hoo...First!
As for presents...
My cousin accidently sent out an e-mail to everyone on his address list that was meant to only go to his wife...Saying he wants a divorce and part of the reason is that she has no interest in sex...So me being the prick that I am, immediately got online and bought them a gift certificate to a local Sex Toy Shop. Should be a Fun Christmas this year waiting for that reaction!

As for my brothers and sisters, they are all getting Camp Freddy T-shirts that I bought earlier in the year!!!

Take care!

"so I really need to get moving on some of the stuff I keep meaning to do, but never ACTUALLY do."

Like finishing that Harry Potter book!!! rofl

Excellent pics today Billy...thanks!

PS...gifts for the ones you hate...I always get them those Pepperidge Farms gift baskets...nothing says apathy like Pepperidge Farms! lol

Posted by: Cori at December 8, 2005 09:38 AM

LOL billy, I always am buying stuff then thinking who I can give it to. I hate shopping, even for people I love. I mean you've bought for them for 20 years or more, what's left to give. I've came to a decision a few years ago to stop driving myself crazy and give gifts that I like to people. I don't care if they like them or not, they can throw them out if they want to.

I remember a few years ago I gave my sister this huge african trible mask... she didn't know what to say. rofl

smooches,
tina

oh scott, would love to see his face when he opens the gift. Serves him right for asking for a divorce by email. ppfftt

Try being faced with having to buy a little something for 32 people every year.
All of them cranky dancers, most of them gay.
Thank jeebus for the almighty gift certificate.

That would make a nice gift for anyone who watched RockStar INXS or just likes the band.

Have you heard it?

Agreed Tina...but that is just like him to do that via e-mail. I guess they have been in counseling for quite some time and he is a doctor and was out of the country when he sent the e-mail. Dumbass...they live in California so I hope she take him to the cleaners when they finally get around to the divorce...lol.

Oh and Cori, I gotta agree with you on the Pepperidge Farms...

Or how bout that card you get that says "so-and-so has made a donation to (enter Charity here) on your behalf. Merry Christmas!!!" Nice and all, but I prefer to pick my charities thanks.

This is the first year in....can't even remember....that I haven't been finished with all my shopping by this date. I'm going to be one of those pathetic last minute people, with my little list in hand, wandering hopelessly through the mall. I hate that.

Looking forward to the CFR show. I'm sure you and Matt will keep us fully entertained.

Enjoy the lull,
Bonita

Dude, its so true about the things that you 'never ACTUALLY do', I'v gotta admit thats just like me too, we're in the same boat there. Do you ever find that you get so inspired to do something, get round to trying it, messing up and then realising that maybe you just werent meant to be doing that? and they say pratice makes perfect? haha, THEY don't know me.

have you ever been to Blackpool back in blighty?

Billy, you're getting me in rant mode again!!! :P I'm already in a huge rant mode over NTL who provide my phone, tv, broadband. I'm crazed over it. Xmas has been pushed behind that...but that's a topic I could go on and on about....better save some of it for my yahoo blog eh?!
Tina, my Mum loves African Tribal Masks, she collects them!
My family have mutually decided to not make a big deal out of the presents anymore. We all live so far away from each other. We just kind of get around to it these past couple of years.
This is the first year I won't be seeing any family, or friends. :S Weird feeling. Can't decide if that's good, or I'd prefer buying gifts for people, and stocking stuffers. That was always a big deal with us. I'm going to miss it, even if some of it is junk, or totally the wrong size, or hideous. I'm always happy to be given pressies!!
I love giving them too. I just wish I had more money. I'd go around like the Fairy Godmother! :D

I hate shopping. The pressure of the holidays is ridiculous.

I like giving gifts to those I am close to though.
Everyone is getting from me the Live 8 dvd ,it is great concert DVD and all the money goes to charity so everyone wins , right?

Billy how could you not love those penguins, they melted my heart.

Luv xx

Love the first pic of you sexy leather clad gods looking out to the crowd (we punters don't often get to see things from that angle)
Q - How do you react if you see someone in the crowd standing stonefaced not getting into the show one bit? Do you totally ignore them or make it your mission to have them under your spell- jumping and gyrating by the end of the night?

Much love x x x

Hi Billy, first, a couple questions...Christmas Eve AND New Year's Eve both fall on Saturdays this year...no plans to tape shows in advance like last year..remember the ruse that went awry?

ok, now, on to your poll, how to be meaningful to the meaningless....wasn't that why FRUITCAKE was invented? Seriously, I have issues with gifts, and the obligations of it all, I consider myself a pretty good gift giver, I seem to know what people I love want, (hey, I was pretty spot on with my hostess gifts, wasn't I?), but it's hard for me to do that for people I don't really have a connection to. I LOVE the idea of giving everyone in that category the same thing, like the March of the Penguins DVD, which, by the way, I would LOVE!! How about kicking everyone down a little Carmen and Dave DVD, since you and Jen both have cameos? or....a donation in their name to ONE, or Make Poverty History, or any other charity? See, it's the gift that gives back, since it's tax deductible...ok, going away...can you tell I haven't had any adult contact for a while, HELP!!
love,
jezzi

This March of the Penguins DVD. I didn't know about it until now. They've shown it on TV haven't they?
Or was that just a nature show I watched of the same topic..several times? I heard on TV (yeah I have a new 28" widescreen TV!! thank you tescos extra! lol)
well, it was said on TV that penguins don't migrate.
And I thought.."they don't count that move those big penguins, are they Emperor or King, make to the middle of the Antartic as a migration :O?!!!"

Posted by: ylais at December 9, 2005 04:12 AM

I love Pingu the Penguin, and Penguin Chocolate Biscuits. P-p-pick a P-p-penguin. rofl. We're trying to say that right around here now..p-p-p...pick up a p-p-penguin...

I find it funny it's in the movies when it's been on the nature shows on TV so often. Believe me I know. I used to watch'em all!

Pingu is the cutest.

What I'd love to send someone as a pressie to get them going: a huge cardboard box, wrapped up. but with no return address. no letter. no card. nothing in it at all. totally empty.

Gifts for the bozos in your life? Easy! Inflatable BOZO the Clown sock'em toys. Gifts for the A-holes? KY Jelly of course, especially the warming variety. Gifts for the pathological liars in your life? Pinocchio DVDs.

I'll be tuned in this Sat for sure. BTW... are there any more Todd Newman pics available for us to see, or are they private? Have a good one.

Posted by: Kate at December 9, 2005 12:01 PM

lol Kate! They may enjoy those pressies to much! :D

I'm going for the gift wrapped dog poo. for the ex mother in law..and family..

Posted by: ylais at December 9, 2005 01:36 PM

I've got it! The perfect gift for those you hate.
The Truth Machine
http://secure.gadgets.co.uk/truth_machine_2.html

Yep, get them a lie detector. I always thought that was so cruel when they had game shows using lie detectors. Not that I believed it was real. But can you imagine if you sent this to a family, a couple, anyone? The temptation to use the thing! And if you did..ouch!

Gorgeous pictures!

I has such a blast at the CF show last Sunday. I think I still may be recovering from going for the show and leaving right after - I had literally twenty minutes of sleep and then I was off to work on Monday. Crazy. But it was well worth it. You killed it on Ziggy and my personal favorite, Dog. That was a weird crowd, though.

Thank you so much for adding the Stimulator and (my personal favorite) Doheny tracks for download! Yeah, I just noticed. I'm slow. It still bums me out that I never got to see you on this coast, because you guys were fucking amazing in NYC.

Don't stress too much about gifts. If you're not too into the person, they should be happy you get them anything! When all else fails, Bath and Body Works, man.

gifts? fruitcake & nog - always sends everyone into a sugar coma so you can slip out the back door in your socks with toes that you got from them. nog info part 2 - i'm 1/4 english so grew up with nog, boiled beef, and bread pudding with rum sauce. my grandfather grew up in durham & lived with us. for the paranoid www.quantumsleeper.com - always needed for those sleepless nites.
