..and the birds go 'TWEAK TWEAK!'

Yes. I have officially been LOST! Lost on the island of html, deep in the heart of the Dreamweaver Jungle. Its crazy - I started a fresh round of tweaking at the weekend, and its already Tuesday. A dangerous way to lose complete track of time. But I am finally getting somewhere. The whole King Mob Music site is starting to look as I want it. And I am doing the whole thing myself. Messing and changing as I go, and keeping it all live in the process. The new Camp Freddy site will all be done offline, and 'launched' early next year in one go, but the King Mob thing is a homegrown vibe, which is why I am leaving it all up online and making changes as I go. I want the whole thing to develop as I develop my skills (which could be a while!!) but I just like the idea. So anyway, the news and film pages are coming along nicely. Everything else is all over the place right now - and it will have to stay that way for now, because the next few days are studio days.

I am back in the studio over at Matts place, recording another song that we wrote as part of this ongoing project. To answer Simon's question right now, no - the rumored Cult reunion for next year is NOT what I have been working on, although it could get in the way of the project!! And don't ask if I will be a part of The Cult thing, because I have no idea. The Cult is Ian and Billy .... and thats it. As well it should be - they wrote the songs. They had the vision. And they have used many other people to fill out the band, and my period in the band was a lucky one for me, because I got to do all the fun stuff, like the interviews, TV etc. But who knows what they plan to do this time around. Either way, I love those guys, and I love that band. More Cult is always a good thing. But we will have to see what it means for 'Project X'. For now, we keep recording.

Thank you all for your kind words for Jennifer. Its a hard time for us right now, and we both really appreciate all your kindness.

Carol Anne - Welcome to the fold. And what a hilarious way to introduce yourself!! I will be carrying your 'do you have the receipt' line with me this year and using it with complete abandon. Pure Genius.

Leon - No, I never met Randy, although I agree with you that he was just a supernatural talent. And his influence runs right through the center of modern guitar playing. I also feel the same way as you when I listen to other guitarists, especially that Navarro cat!!. He just makes me wanna give up and get a job in 7/11!!!

Ylais - Thank you for the RSS explanation site. Its a lot clearer now - a little pointless perhaps, but at least I understand the concept.

Simon - Actually, your questions are VERY pertinent. You are correct that you can cover any song live. No permission needed. You can also record any song you wish, but the writers and publishers of that song get the money. So far so good. BUT - if you use a guest artist on that recording (imagine the amount of guests on the CF record), you need THEIR people's permission for them to appear on that recording. Likewise with video, you CANNOT use anyones likeness on film without all the correct permissions ..... which is why a) the album is taking so long, and b) we cant easily put any of the video footage together and post it or release it. The very nature of the concept of Camp Freddy makes playing live really easy, and releasing anything VERY difficult! But we are getting there.

Dennis - RE the Cult reunion, see above. As far as Dave's SpreadRadio stuff, all I have to say is this. That guy has the most cutting edge ideas, and the ability to put them into action. Although he has said nothing to me about any plans, I support everything he does, and would be a part of any or all of it if asked. Nuff said!

JRoberto - Thank you for your kind words.. As I said above, I have no idea if they would even want me in the next line up. But I will let you know for sure if that call comes.

OK - GET OFF THE COMPUTER, MORRISON!!!!! Time to get your shit together for a long day in the studio. I have a two hour cardio/pilates thingy scheduled and then its directly off to Matt's to listen to him bang a snare drum for two hours in order to get 'the right tone'. But trust me, once he gets that tone, all bets are off!! That guy is INSANE! I am excited. Gotta go - thanks for everything guys. Sorry I cant be more specific about certain stuff, but some of it is just not my business, and some of it ... well.... I just don't have any answers!! This business is a strange one. But I love it. Peace Out.

This is a little bit of a late posting. I'm sorry to hear about Jen's Grandmother. I know it's hard to lose someone you love very much.

LOL! Dreamweaver Jungle... I like the sound of that. That's where I've been this week too. Dreamweaver has been driving me crazy, or should I say the way Safari and IE for Mac views webpages made in Dreamweaver using CSS. The whole browser compatibility issue is insane. Why can't they all read web pages the same?

The Cult reunion, I knew it would happen in time. It would be awesome if you were a part of The Cult tour again!

Thanks man, all the power to you on your projects, and make sure to throw us a bone about project X when you can ;)

Hell yeah for a Cult re-union. I was dissapointed by the self-titled album they did (a couple of killer tracks but the rest was ordinary) and so was sceptical when they reformed for the Beyond Good And Evil album...but that album absolutely kicked arse (Billy, being a pommy do you say 'arse' or 'ass'?). So having a break seems to do The Cult a world of good. Looking forward to another album. And if you're in it then all the better.

Billy, I think I noticed in a previous post that you were a fan of the Mark Manning books. Read the latest one (Wild Highway)? I found that a bit disappointing compared to Bad Wisdom.

Large regards...

Hiya Billy

Well, I guess you're being totally bombarded with questions about a possible Cult reunion. All I can say is, that rumour spread like a disease, man!
Hope it does happen and that you are a part of it.

All the best.

Hiya! The King Mob site is great. Looking forward to more. Very interesting post Billy. Exciting things are happening. (still crossing my fingers see.. X)

The pig head - it reminds me of a Johnny Vegas tv programme I saw late at night here, clicking through the channels. It's called "Ideal" and it's set in London, I think. There's some strange, though oddly and scarily familiar, characters in that series. And he has a couple of very scary friends, one of who wears a mask like the pig head one. I think he's called "Cartoon Head". I can't remember what animal the mask is though. I was entranced by the programme even though it was so, well, horrific at times. I suppose it's very dark comedy. Recommended viewing, if you're in the right mood. But especially since you played "Pig Head" Loved the movie pics!

I'm going bonkers here, mostly with Xmas preparations. Suddenly I've got loads more stuff to do! Oo

The RSS, yeah, I thought exactly the same thing: "this is pretty useless" :D

Love

billy,
just read where the cult thing looks like a go and i gotta say i'm fucking pumped.i think it would be kick ass to have you in the band again and the band would be all the better for it. on the other side of that i'm worried that your side project may be derailed a bit because of the reunion and who you may need to complete it.i hope it can all work out cause i would like to see you fronting a touring band and kicking some major ass. good luck
leon

Posted by: leon at December 14, 2005 02:03 PM

oh yea i second terri's idea on the kingmob t- shirt

Hey Billy-Happy Winter

Just droppin' in to say Hi. :)
Nice to see you have been staying busy lately (dreaming HTML?), although I suppose that's nothing new! I'm sure it's been upsetting about Jen's grandmother, all you can do is be there to comfort her. I wish her an understanding healing.

I go away for a bit and come back to find these musings on a Cult gathering again. Very surprised and happy to hear it, but until I hear it comes from the band I'll keep it close to my thoughts of faith, lol. Hope to see you included though.

Ok, the weird thing is, on Myspace, the Cult page released something about it being announced in March, which is weird, because March is when the RnR Hall of Fame ceremony is, and I'm assuming Duffy is going to be there to be with his best mate when he's inducted. Perhaps when he announces the reunion? I don't know, just a thought....

Have you seen Dave Navarro's Hello Kitty guitar? That thing seems like it should come standard with pink frost lipstick and a powderpink feather boa. lmao :D :D :D

I was wondering more of your influences. Do you tend to like more technical or more melodic guitar players? Were you influenced at all by Thin Lizzy? Have you ever heard Massive Attack's 'Mezzanine' and if so what do you think?

I hope you & Jen have an awesome holiday season. I'm off to listen to some tunes :D
happy happy joy joy

I was just reading your response to Simon and had a question for you... I am a 2D and 3D animator (see my website: http://www.nanogirl.com/index2.html) and there are some animations that I want background music playing while it is running. So far I have either created the audio myself or purchased royalty free audio, not wanting to infringe on any copyrights, but reading your comments I was wondering if it means that I or someone else could use a song as a background if we sang it ourselves? Is this permissible or no? Does this require permission either way? Since I am not a musician persay, are there different requirements and if so what would they be? Thanks for any help you may provide.

Hey Billy!

Just thought i would post a wee comment to say hey! First time ive posted a comment but i read the blog all the time...im a lazy student who loves to check in and read about all your goings on....

Keep it up
N

P.S. My favorite thing on the planet would be for Camp Freddy to come and do a random gig in Scotland...keep that in mine! ha ha!

Hi Billy! How did the session with Matt go?

Posted by: ylais at December 15, 2005 11:00 AM

Forget Mr. Morrison playing bass - how about 2nd guitar? Me thinks he meets the criteria - a Brit, good tats and fine denim collection. And these MySpace bulletins are completely bogus. I'm on The Cult's (whoever runs it) friend list and there was NEVER anything sent out from that profile, in fact there is nothing from that profile stating anything other than the definition of the word "rumor", see for yourself http://www.myspace.com/cultmusic
