OUTTA TOWN FOR A FEW DAYS

Macy and Billy.jpg

Wassup everyone? Hows things ..... all good I hope. I have to leave town for a few days on a family thing, and I won't be traveling with my laptop, so I probably won't have the opportunity to post until I get back on Monday. So I figured I would check in before I leave. Camp Freddy Radio will be sans Morrison this week (which bums me out, but I know the other guys will deliver you all a stellar show). I will, however, be loading the new V-Pod up with tons of shit, and I will also be delving into the dubious virtues of the new Grand Theft Auto game on my PSP. Now that looks like a decent game. And I picked up the movie Layer Cake, just in case the in-flight movies dont cut it!! So I will be totally entertained, no matter what!!

So yes - the I Love The 80's is airing now, and I filmed all the years. But they use tiny bits and I have no idea which bits they used. I saw the Post-It sliver, which is basically me swearing, so its bleeped out anyway!!! But I know they used some other stuff, so further down the decade, I am bound to crop up again!! And I have the footage from Tripping Forward (the movie) now, so once I get back into town, I will edit a few things up for the TV page. By the way, I believe the Gallery page and the Radio page are undergoing some changes so bear with it. I am making it so that I can add tracks to the playlists from my own computer. THAT way, I can surprise you guys with some music every now and again. And I will be filming a video for the song, Pills, that I wrote for the movie, and if all goes well, the band will include a certain Mr LaRoque (from Doheny) and a certain Mr Ricky Warwick (from an upcoming project I am involved with) so I will try and get some clips from that shoot to put up here as well.

The big news is that the Camp Freddy Las Vegas show on December 4th has some tickets available!! I am waiting to find out full details, but the event is in Vegas on Dec 4th and it is a Camel Cigarette sponsored event. They have been touring all summer and we are going to close the tour. Thats more than enough info for the more resourceful among you to figure out how to buy tickets. And I know they are selling a few. More details as I get them. Seems that Vegas is the place for Freddy!!

Sergio - Welcome to the site mate. Not really sure what you are asking, but if its about my sound onstage, its just Gibson/Marshall. Les Paul Standard or Custom through Marshall JCM900's. Always two cabs with 35watt speakers. Bit of Phase 90 here, bit of Boss Delay there. Nothing special. And thank you for the compliment.

CSue - First of all - GENIUS artwork! I Love it. Check this out people ......

CSue_dohenynano.jpg

And yes, the vibe is different at the corporate show. But sometimes those suits go off more than a 'real' audience. They get hammered, loosen their ties, and think they are all 17 again and start pogoing like its 1977!!

Jezzi - Thanks for the Getty Images tip. They really got some good shots, right?

Amy - You just might get Queen Bitch. It went down really well, sounded great, and happens to be my favorite Bowie song. So I would put it forward at the next few shows. Hopefully the other guys liked it as much as I did.

Redpill - Again, welcome. And actually, the white custom did have a scratchplate - the holes just dont show in pics. However, I changed everything else about the guitar as well, so its pretty much a hybrid. One day, Gibson should make a model with those specs and then I can just get loads of them!!

Alec - First off, yer Dad rocks!! And secondly, nice one learning all those songs. Not easy, right?!! Have a great show and dont forget to turn it UP!!!!

Right, time to pack a bag, and get my act together. Have a great weekend everyone, and hope you can listen in to CFR. Send those boys my love - I miss em already. Back next week.

Peace

Billy

Hope you have a grand trip Billy. And I concur that Ethan Miller sure takes beautiful pictures... I met him at a gig in Vegas, very nice guy too. He has a wonderful eye for artistry.

About tickets for Vegas, I had no luck finding any info...anyone else have an idea?

Hey Billy,

I'm still in the land of the living, just not been posting much with university and not having the net at home. I'm gonna play catch up on your journal entries in my spare time.

Hope all is well

Billy - The odd thing about Gibson is that they'll make you a Custom without a Scratchplate - but they actually charge an extra $1000 bucks to do it!

This site is great - Drive is one of the best songs around... now if i could only get it on my iPod...

Safe trip, Billy.

Well I'm good at researching, but this Vegas thing has me perplexed. I've a guess, (NOT Celine Dion) but I'd hate to buy tickets for the wrong event, I tell ya. Billy, I'm going to shoot an email out...lemme know if I'm right or wrong if you can.

Hope you have a safe trip Billy.
I am looking forward to more info about your new project.

You and Camp Freddy need to come do a show down south!

Hey Billy, give us a review of Layer Cake,k?

HAPPY HALLOWEEN everyone!

Billy,

I watched "24 Hour Party People" this weekend and was wondering if you had any experiences with Tony Wilson, Ian Curtis or Shaun Ryder over the years?

Also, your general thoughts on the movie (if you've seen it) and the scene in portrayed if you would.

For those who haven't seen it, give it watch.
It gives a good look at the evolution of the Manchester music scene from about '76-'92.

Thanks,
Jay

So this Camp Freddy Vegas thing on December 5th?

I found this on some guy's blog dated October 16 about the "Sin City Tour"

*********************
It was called the "Sin City Tour" and it was sponsored by Camel. So it was all Vegas-y and there were pole dancers and a "pleasure lounge" which was kind of lame. It was blackjack tables that you could play for fun...and man, ****** won a ton! And there was a fake tattoo guy that gave ***** a tiger tat on her lower back...dang. And there were all these girls dressed up like showgirls walking around...and a "Chapel of Lust" where you could take a wedding photo with an Elvis impersonator... just bizarre...

And then there were the opening acts...part of a Vegas-style revue. Led by Johnny Fayva...this fat guy in a bad wig...he did a version of Hey Ya, One (is the loneliest number), Come Sail Away, and I Believe in a Thing Called Love... and then there was "Dirty Little Secret" this burlesque act ...4 hot girls. And then there was Miss Ursula...kind of a comedy hula hoop act...and this awful half-Asian stand-up that just sucked...maybe he was half-Japanese...cause he BOMBED (thank you, thank you, I'll be here all night.) And this one magic act that was all about smoking cigarettes... great.

Anyways, I get into the left side of the stage...and Miss Ursula and some of the DLS girls stand near me to take pics of Johnny...and then behind me ...I'm like...no it can't be...but it's Sia Michel, the HOT Editor-in-Chief of SPIN! I wanted to go talk to her and beg her for a job...but it was too loud...and the reason I knew for sure it was her...because MOBY was standing right next to her. So funny.

Anyways, the Faint played a kick-arse show as always...they played all of my faves...especially "Call, Call", "Worked Up So Sexual", "Agenda Suicide", "Glass Dance", "I Disappear", "Desperate Guys" etc... just awesome dance-rock fun.

So, if you like the Killers, the Rapture, or the Bravery...they owe a lot to the Faint...and well, 80's bands.

*****************

The key to all this is - Johnny Fayva. Who in the early days performed quite a few gigs with Camp Freddy.

I left a comment on Dave's blog about something that just happened to me, it was pretty funny, but you probably had to be there...
