SAN FRANCISCO OR BUST

Eyeball

Its Road Trip day today. Cars are, as I type this, winging their way all over LA, to pick up all the people involved in tonights San Fran Camp Freddy show and drop them all off at LAX. We have a morning flight up North, an easy afternoon soundcheck, and then its a nice relaxing afternoon in the hotel for me. I bought a couple of movies to watch on my PSP, and I would imagine that we will all have dinner in the Hotel before making our way over to the gig. Seems like a nice easy day. Whatever could go wrong with that plan, I ask myself!!!

Yesterday was an eye-opener in all senses of the word!! It appears that I am NOT getting Lasik after all. I am actually getting a surgery called ACC, or Advanced Custom Cornea, as its known to its friends. The big difference is that with ACC, they do NOT cut a flap in your eye (thank God!). Hence the reason that this procedure is known as 'flapless' surgery. My main man at AXIS Eye Institute, Dr James Johnson, prodded, poked, picked and pushed at my eyeballs for what seemed like an eternity yesterday. All completely painless so far, and after a bunch of tests and measurements, he says .....'Yep. You're blind as a bat!!' I could have told you that for free, Doc! Anyway, I am all scheduled for this new technology in laser eye surgery - next week I will be able to see .....hopefully!!
In all seriousness, everyone at AXIS were so professional, so courteous, and so helpful that it is just not a big deal. They talk you through every step of the way, and explain the whole thing in terms that even I can understand. I feel really comfortable with them (which is a good job, considering I am gonna let Dr Johnson play with his little laser on my eyeballs!!) More news next week, when I've actually done the thing. The pic is a topographical picture of an eyeball - (not mine, by the way!) - thought it looked trippy.

Shit!! The car is downstairs and I am so not ready. They'll have to wait - gotta pack a bag, gotta kiss the wife, gotta get my ass into gear. Have fun, play nice, and drink lots of coffee. Outta here.

Have a great time Billy!

What movies did you take to watch???

Do you like Stephen King movies? You should check out "Storm of the Century" some time...if you haven't seen it...creepy, scary stuff! ;)

Billy, I was being sarcastic with my "jig is up", like they were going to find out about my sordid past. As far as the email I sent you, that was just me bemoaning the fact that I have a face made for radio. And as far as CFR getting stronger and stronger, I know that, just when I have told fellow fans I wasn't hosting till the fall, they were expressing unneeded concern, some fans, right?

Have fun in SF! Try the seafood!

Billy,

How 'bout a guest/setlist from CF Frisco style?

As for "Charlie and The Chocolate Factory", I'm not into it. Though I find Depp nothing less than brilliant, Tim Burton's direction has killed any interest I have in the movie. I find his style more about the "look" of the movie than the feel of the story/characters. I find his work way too self indulgent.

Thanks,
Jay

One of my all time favourite movies is Sleepy Hollow, directed by Tim Burton, starring Johnny Depp. I loved the atmosphere, which I suppose means the "look" of the movie, as well as the story. Even though I'd read, seen that tale several times, Tim Burton made it new and put some excitement, and jokes into it.
So I am definately expecting great things for this Willy Wonka movie! :D
Jay, did you see Sleepy Hollow?

Lisa,

Yep, saw Sleepy Hollow, As always Depp was great. My problem with Burton is that he generally tries to make the look of the movie the star instead of the actors/story. I've never left one of his movies and found one of the characters "riveting".

Just my 2 cents..
