SAN FRANCISCO OR BUST

Eyeball

Its Road Trip day today. Cars are, as I type this, winging their way all over LA, to pick up all the people involved in tonights San Fran Camp Freddy show and drop them all off at LAX. We have a morning flight up North, an easy afternoon soundcheck, and then its a nice relaxing afternoon in the hotel for me. I bought a couple of movies to watch on my PSP, and I would imagine that we will all have dinner in the Hotel before making our way over to the gig. Seems like a nice easy day. Whatever could go wrong with that plan, I ask myself!!!

Yesterday was an eye-opener in all senses of the word!! It appears that I am NOT getting Lasik after all. I am actually getting a surgery called ACC, or Advanced Custom Cornea, as its known to its friends. The big difference is that with ACC, they do NOT cut a flap in your eye (thank God!). Hence the reason that this procedure is known as 'flapless' surgery. My main man at AXIS Eye Institute, Dr James Johnson, prodded, poked, picked and pushed at my eyeballs for what seemed like an eternity yesterday. All completely painless so far, and after a bunch of tests and measurements, he says .....'Yep. You're blind as a bat!!' I could have told you that for free, Doc! Anyway, I am all scheduled for this new technology in laser eye surgery - next week I will be able to see .....hopefully!!
In all seriousness, everyone at AXIS were so professional, so courteous, and so helpful that it is just not a big deal. They talk you through every step of the way, and explain the whole thing in terms that even I can understand. I feel really comfortable with them (which is a good job, considering I am gonna let Dr Johnson play with his little laser on my eyeballs!!) More news next week, when I've actually done the thing. The pic is a topographical picture of an eyeball - (not mine, by the way!) - thought it looked trippy.

Shit!! The car is downstairs and I am so not ready. They'll have to wait - gotta pack a bag, gotta kiss the wife, gotta get my ass into gear. Have fun, play nice, and drink lots of coffee. Outta here.

EYEBALLS AND OTHER ODDITIES

Wonka_pic

Whats the matter with me? Posting two days in a row? Must be something I ate!!! So, I am up early for this Lasik consultation. Its not the surgery today, just a two hour appointment where they dilate your pupils and mess around to figure out exactly what they need to do. The actual surgery will be in a week or so. But I have to say I have always been the kind of person that doesn't think too much about stuff like this. I just walk in and do it - my whole life, I have just been, sort of ..... 'do it now, think about it later'!! - hence I am covered in tattoo's, have broken my bones more times than I care to remember, and spent a lot of years addicted to drugs!! BUT ..... on the plus side, if I hadn't just upped and moved to the States, I wouldn't be married to my soulmate, playing in Camp Freddy and Doheny etc etc. So I figure it all works out in the end - and thats why I wont think about this Lasik thing. ...."Doc, just cut me open and sort it out!!"

Doheny's managers are currently in the UK, doing some unrelated work, but I had a call yesterday from them. It appears they are taking some very successful meetings over there on our behalf. I cant wait for them to get back, so that I can find out if we made any progress with the UK labels. Now wouldnt that be funny - Jon and I come half way around the world, and end up signing the band to a UK label??!! We shall see....

A quick cry for help. I have been trying to get some video together to send to Karen, who looks after the www.dohenymedia.com site. I have three or four DVD's with stuff that I want to copy and send to her. I use Mac computers and I use Final Cut Pro to put together film and output it as a quicktime movie. Easy. Except when I try and import the stuff into FCP I can only get the video in (from the Video-TS folder) and cant find the audio!! Anyone have any bright ideas?

Now then:
Jezzi - This jig thats meant to be up. What do you mean? I got your email as well. We are going nowhere and CFR continues to go from strength to strength. You won the competition and you will be hosting with us. Just sort it out with the people at Indie. Do NOT stress - its happening!!!

Cori - I am a huge Harry Potter fan. I have all the books in hard back first editions, and the first three DVD's. The new book (Half Blood Prince) comes out on July 15th. My copy is already ordered!! And thanks for bringing up the "what if there's an earthquake while they are digging about in my eyeball" thing!! I hadn't thought of that one!!

Jay - Word on the SF show is that its a private event, with a few friends. Its not a full on, all singing all dancing Freddy show. It'll still be a cool show (the Incubus guys are always a blast) and our usual suspects on the guitar will be there. After Dave finishes the Rockstar TV thing, we will do another LA show for everyone. In the Fall sometime.

Junebug - My folks tried hard to understand the 'Hollywood' thing, but its just too much for them!! From the choice available in the grocery store, to the size of some of the Bel Air and Beverly Hills houses, their minds are blown constantly at the way things are here. But they are good sports - last year, they came to see Doheny play a show at The Gig!!!

Danielle - I already know that the Lasik doesnt hurt. I have a bunch of friends who have done it and they all say the same. But I will have some digi pics done while they do it and will write a report once its done.

Zanabee - All I can say is .... todays pic is for you!!

Jake - Funnily enough, I have been talking with the surf company, ONeill (who gave Jen and I our wetsuits) about some Camp Freddy boardshorts. They sent me a mock up of the srtwork and they look fucking awesome. I hope they do a limited run, and we will then make some available on the site. The last run of CF tee's were given to us as competition prizes for the radio show and thats what we have been giving away on the show. But when the album gets done, we will do a hat and tee for the site as well.

Laurie - I have no idea about Thursday's Rokbar thing - just do what I used to do....which is get dressed up and pretend I know someone and just walk in!!

Tina - Enjoy your two weeks vacation. After Hawaii, I am now an advocate of two weeks holiday every month!! Now how do we get jobs like that??.......

OK - Thats the Tuesday Morning Roundup. Gotta get some coffee inside me, so I can be awake enough to listen to what this Doctor's saying to me! Have a great day everyone.

Peace

MEET THE MORRISONS!!!

Billy_1

Not sure what this pic I've used is from, but check out the powder blue cord bondage suit!!! Jesus, what was I thinking! And what am I pointing at??

SO .......

Anyone listening to Camp Freddy radio on Saturday will have realized why its been a week since I posted on here. One word ......PARENTS!!! My parents live in Africa (no idea why, but they do!) and I've seen them maybe four times in the last ten years. So when they decide to visit Jen and I, life comes to a halt, and I find myself doing things like showing them the pier at Santa Monica, looking at the stars on Hollywood Blvd, and of course, visiting the Getty again! Yes folks, its been 10 days of tourism, and parental stuff. Not a bad thing, and of course, always nice to see them. But things are different when they visit, so I just wasnt able to get to posting here. They left yesterday, and it really is back to normal now!! Anyone see Meet The Fockers??

This week looks to be a good one - today, I run through the songs that Camp Freddy will be doing in San Francisco on Wednesday, with Chris and Mickey from Incubus. Just a couple of hours running through the ones we are rusty on, and showing Mickey a few things. We'll do it at my place and its a no stress hang. Then I meet my Tech at my rehearsal studio to go through the equipment thats going up tomorrow. This afternoon, I have to meet a couple of people, and tonight, I'm gonna sit at home and veg out in front of the TV. Tomorrow, I have my consultation for my Lasik surgery - VERY excited to be able to see after all these years. A little nip and tuck on the eyeball, and thats it!! Then I spend the rest of the day writing with a couple of guys I have been working with on a project. More info later on. Wednesday and Thursday is San Francisco with Freddy, and Friday is a full day over at the studio with Mike Clink, working on the record.

Doheny took the month of June off, and I am dying to get back to work with those guys. We have rehearsals booked for next week, and a meeting with our managers, to discuss what options we have regarding the record. We have showcased, written great songs, done some cool shows, and flown across the country in search of a decent deal. You guys have been amazingly supportive, and we all believe 100% in Doheny - I suppose we need to figure out what our next moves will be. Its tough out there, and I am very lucky that I get to do a bunch of other music in my life.

Next week also sees me shooting my scenes for the movie!! Its called Actor, and my part is a small one, but I am still proud to have got the part (my first movie part!!) and I am looking forward to shooting it. Once I've done it, I'll post a diary on the whole thing.

Is anyone looking forward to Wily Wonka as much as me?! Johnny Depp in the best movie role ever - a deranged chocolate manufacturer!! Whoever wrote that character was a pure 100% genius! And I cant wait to see Depp do his thing! Watched Be Cool on DVD last night and I was really disappointed - Get Shorty was brilliant, but this was yet another 'not really that good or funny' sequel. Hollywood is churning out some right shit at the moment.

OK - so I'm back, writing my usual nonsense on a monday morning. I promise I will be posting more regularly now - for those of you who care about the day to day life of Billy Morrison!!! I have decided to put up the rough cut of Mark Racco's video for Evergreen that was shot at the Viper a few months back. Karen has the Dohenymedia.com site running and has been looking for content. So I am going to provide - Karen, I'll be putting some stuff in the mail this week. Email me an address, and I'll send you some stuff. And thats it from me - hope you continue to hang out here, and thank you all for your support. Questions welcome, comments too - opinions always valid!!!

Peace

MONDAY MORNING

Billy_by_deborah

Hi everyone. So the first thing I should clarify is that Dave was just riffing about the Doheny album release party at Rokbar!! We havent signed a deal and we havent recorded an album yet!! He was just being a bro and kinda putting it out there into the ethos!! Sorry if anyone was misled by that - believe me, I want to have the launch party at Daves bar.......we just have the small problem of actually making that record first.
London doesnt seem to be happening now. We were looking at flying over to play at the Live 8 Afterparty, but logistics just seem to be conspiring against us, so for now it looks like we wont be there. A shame, but I promise that when the Freddy album comes out, we will come over to the UK and do one or two shows.
I am typing this from the Camp Freddy studio, as we put the finishing touches to another song. Its starting to get exciting now - two songs mixed and mastered, and now we have a third very near mixing stage. I'm not gonna let the track listing out just yet, as I would like the album to be somewhat of a surprise, but rest assured, what I am listening to right now sounds fucking amazing!!!

Doheny are still talking to various people about the album. More showcases to do, more meetings to take - boy, this business really is a 'Business' these days. Sean is on a vacation now, but we are booked to re-convene in the rehearsal studio for the month of July, to do these showcases and get the plan together again. Management are doing their thing, and we are just hanging out for now. Its a frustrating time, but we all have to be patient.

TV stuff continues - I just knock out some cues and bits and pieces in my own studio, which is fun, and keeps me making music, which is what I love to do. And the stuff I shot earlier in the year (the VH-1 I Love The series, and the Home James thing, along with the Bonaduce show (I did the Theme music) all come out in the Fall. So I am keeping busy - but have to admit that the frustration of getting albums done can definately get to me at times.

Bonita - The cook in my house is whoever's cooking in our local restaurants. We eat out nearly every day - cant really be bothered to cook anything. If we eat in, its delivered - an Indian, some Chinese ...maybe some pizza if I'm having some feelings!!

Cori - People say I am a 'chip off the block'. My Dad raced motorcycles, doesnt care what people think of him, and is a very respectful, honest and loving guy. In short, he is someone that I admire, and its great to have them over here visiting right now. We took the parents to Rodeo Drive on Fathers Day to see all the old Ferrari's at the Concourse De Rodeo - fun times.

Seems like its my turn to do some backing vocals, so I'm gonna snap a quick pic to post with this later(I'll put a couple of pics up tonight when I get home from the studio), and get to work. Until then, heres a pic of me that I actually like a lot - taken by someone in my family. I hope you guys have a good week - thank you all for hanging around here. I'll be back later in the week - until then....

Peace

BACK IN BUSINESS.

Billy_solo_2

Wow. As quickly as that, its all over. Paradise does exist and its called Wailea in Maui! But we are back in LA, feeling refreshed and relaxed, and its back to business. It was fun to post the pics of the diving - oh, and I have to give a HUGE shout out to Lisa, who sent me some water wings!! I got them when I came home, which is a shame as I could have used them when I was diving with the sharks!! Thank you so much Lisa. I had a big smile when I opened the package! Very sweet of you.

So, whats happening in LA? Well, apart from Jackson being aquitted on all charges (Jesus!! What's next?) its back to life as I know it. Doheny are taking a break from the rehearsal room, to write some new tracks, and to give our management some time to get this fucking deal in place. Its a nightmare out there - no one is signing anything, and while we have had a lot of interest, trying to get someone to actually make a decision, and put pen to paper is very, very hard. But we have irons in fires, and we know we have a great record ready to make, so we will keep doing what we do. Rest assured we will let you know of any movement when we have news.
Camp Freddy are getting ready to go up to San Francisco in a couple of weeks to play a corporate show up there, and there is a rumour that we might be going to London to play a party. Cant say too much, but I will post all the details once its locked in.
I am also busy here in my studio, working on more cues for the Being Bonaduce reality show on VH-1 that I have been involved with - I love doing it. 30 second pieces of instrumental music, locked to picture. Its very challenging and the people that I am involved with are all very cool. So I have one to get started on today.

Camp Freddy Radio has been nominated for an LA Weekly award - Best Radio Show - and the awards are tonight. So fingers crossed everyone -

Bonita - You know what? I have an unexplainable fear of wasps!! Not bees or flies, just the vicious looking wasps. I know they wont kill me, or even sting me if I dont antagonize them. And its kind of stupid, as I have no problem swimming with sharks!! But the look of a wasp gives me shivers!!

Kim - GREAT website. And thanks a lot. Now I have another toy to obsess about, research, and eventually drop a ton of cash on ...... just what I needed!!

Dave C - Some of the pics were shot by the guy that we dived with, and some were taken on a cheap, waterproof snap camera. Its better to have a guy with you who has the real deal camera, as flash is very important underwater.

OK - So I am back in business. Good to be here - Its looking like June will be a quiet month for Doheny (which is just as well, as the last 18 months have been HARD work!!). Freddy will see a bit of action, which is always nice, the CF album will have more work done on it, and I will continue working on a couple of other projects I have in the pipeline. Not to mention getting ready to shoot my first role in a movie in July!! No - its not the lead in a $50 million Hollywood blockbuster! But it is a speaking role, nonetheless, and I am very proud of myself of having got the audition!! Again, more details once I have shot the scenes.

For now its See Ya Later. Gonna fire up the studio and get started on that cue. Thanks to you all for sticking around, and I'll be back in a day or two. Hmmmm......The Caymen Islands look nice.....maybe I could find a week or so in July.......

Peace

EXCUSE ME SIR....DO YOU KNOW THERE'S AN OCTOPUS ON YOUR HEAD?!

Sir_you_have_an_octopus_on_your_head
Its just a brief one, as I figured I'd give you all a grin with these shots. Dived a wreck today - very cool...and saw more sharks. This one is a baby Reef Shark. I had to get right inside the coral to get the shot - and yes, my heart was doing a little number on me.

Shark

Not a lot to say right now - too chilled and digging the last couple of days. Must admit that Freddy and Doheny business is slowly seeping back into my brain!! Must shake it for another two days and relax. So heres a couple of shots from the dive - MASSIVE respect to ONeill who hooked Jen and I up with our hi-tech gear. Oh, and by the way - the ONLY way to travel underwater is those 007 things.......totally fun and no energy expended either. Now THAT is my idea of a sport!!!

Bondjames_bond

This is a pic of me trying to be all arty and get a perfect shot of a sea turtle!!

WE'RE GONNA NEED A BIGGER BOAT!!

Reef_shark

After years of thinking that I liked them, from watching TV, but not actually knowing cos I'd never seen one in the flesh.......I can finally say that I love em! Love their black eyes, love their mythology, and love their power and reputation. Yesterday, I saw two White Tip Reef Sharks!!! In a cave!!! The feeling was amazing - all the movies and stories ran through my head, but I stayed still and watched these two things swim right in front of me, as I hung out about 6 feet inside the entrance of their cave, 32 feet below the surface of the ocean. One was about 3 and 1/2 feet long and one was about 5-6 feet long. I'm sure that a professional diver wouldn't think anything of it, but for me - I was certified yesterday (congrats Billy!!) - it was a huge rush. If all goes well, Jen will be certified today – I am on my way down to join her on her two dives right now. Its been a really fun experience doing this whole thing together.

What else – well……. Its been very relaxing, lots of nice meals (except last night, but we’ll get to that!!) and lots of diving. Just what the doctor ordered. Last night, we decided to leave the hotel and drive up the coast to find something to eat. So we pull in at some high class Mall and start wandering around. Jen spies this place in the corner and we go over to investigate. Now, call me stupid, but when a place has a black and white tiled floor, offers breakfast, lunch and dinner, and has a view of a building site, I might be tempted to give it a miss. But Jen insisted we try it, probably because I was so hungry that I had entered ‘The Grumpy Zone’!! Once in that place, you had better get me some food quick!!. So, always one to make the wife happy, we go inside. 20 mins later, and $100 lighter, we leave!! The place was called Longhi’s – do NOT eat there!!!

Hotel

After the dinner debacle, we went back to our hotel (The Grand Wailea) and grabbed some coffee in the lobby bar, and sat under the stars (cos the lobby bar has an open ceiling) and listened to some really bad Hawaiian music. The bar employs a couple of dodgy looking locals, and one plays bass and the other plays guitar to a backing track.
An hour or so later we called it a night. By the way, this guy lives right outside our room. Not sure what he's doing but he seems very happy to be doing it!!

Statue

OK – what have we got from you guys? Let me see……

Matt – Actually we didn’t do any dives from Laguna. The four open water dives necessary for certification here have been shore dives. But we do have a couple of boat dives booked for later in the week.

Kim – Great idea!! I am down for the GTA in London thing!! Set it in South London and I’ll be the Rock FM DJ voice – YES!! Now everyone write to Rockstar Games, please!!

Jay – Correct. It was indeed Mr Cantrell’s voice on the Thin Lizzy track, Jailbreak. Billy Duffy supplied the lead guitar and Dave and I took care of all the other guitars.
Yes, you will hear me do a lead vocal on the Freddy album – a Clash song, to be precise. You will also hear me do the lead guitar solo through God Save The Queen – a personal highlight for me. And I handle a lot of the backing vocals on the record as well.

Willd – I have done a few sessions, but I don’t consider myself a ‘session cat’ …..I am just not that good!! But if I am asked, and it seems like a cool thing to do, I love doing it. Tommy’s album, the Robbie stuff I did with him a few years back in New York, Ashley Hamiltons song …..always fun to play on other peoples stuff.

Leon – I don’t take a guitar on vacation. I play one most days at home, so I wanna keep things non musical when I am away. But a few lyric ideas always spring to mind when I am relaxing.

Pony – My personal favourite in my guitar collection so far has to be my black Les Paul Standard. Its my first proper Les Paul (it’s a 1990 – 15 years old now!!) although the 72 Deluxe is a nice guitar as well. But I have kept that original – the black Standard has been morphed over the years into a special ‘personal’ guitar. Plus it plays like a dream!!

Cori – Its my first time in Hawaii – we are on Maui, and its beautiful. We already plan to return, to Dive the island of Lanai – there are amazing ‘lava cathedrals’ that you can swim through there. This time, though its just the island of Maui.

Billy_in_the_gardens

OK – time to go. Have a great day everyone and I’ll check back soon.

Peace

I LIED...!!!

Sunrise2

Yes, thats right kids. I lied about taking a laptop! At the last moment, I broke out in a sweat and had to slide my laptop into my bag without telling Jen! So here I am, in my hotel room in Maui, having just done a beautiful breakfast watching the sun come up over the ocean on our balcony. And I wanted to put this pic up to share it with you all. Jetlag, plus excitement had us both awake at 5.00am today, so we took a walk on the beach and took this pic of the sun coming up over Kihei. Its amazing and relaxing just doing nothing!

We are due to go diving in a few hours and I am really looking forward to getting in the ocean.

I will probably do a full Questions Reply Post later in the week, when I am chilling before dinner one day, so ask away, and for now, ..... its Aloha, from Hawaii!!

CAMP FREDDY TRACKS ON TOMORROWS CFR.

I intend to get a full post in, before we fly outta here, but as I have to get up at 6.00am to go and finish my PADI Scuba course, I wanted to get a quick one in tonight.
If you can, tune in to Camp Freddy Radio, tomorrow night on Indie 103.1 at 6.00pm. The reason? .... well, after 18 months, we have FINALLY mixed and mastered the first two tracks from the forthcoming Camp Freddy album. Yep - you heard it right! Two songs are done, finished .....in the can, so to speak. Now, isnt it fortuitous that we also have our own radio show, where we can give the tracks their World Exclusive plays? Yes, it is .... so tune in and check out how they sound. I have to tell you that I am very proud of it - it sounds amazing and we have been plugging away at this record for so long, it feels great to have some songs done and ready to play at long last.

Oh, and by the way, Camp Freddy Radio has been nominated for Best Radio Show, in the LA Weekly Music Awards. I know we are all suprised and honored to have even been nominated. Makes us feel like we are actually 'real' radio people!!

Anyway - I have studying to do now (just got in from Doheny rehearsal, and the band sounds as tight as always. Lets get this record started, people!!) so I am outta here.

Peace

LOSING CONCENTRATION

Singing_7

Its been pretty hard to keep my concentration going this week. The lure of the sandy beaches and tropical waters have been seeping into my brain at every opportunity. But despite day-dreaming about diving and finding sunken treasure, I have managed to do some work - the week so far has been all about writing. I have been working with different people each day and have come up with some cool stuff. Tonight, Jon and I are working with Jed Leiber in the Sunset Marquis Studios, beginning to look at lyric and melody for the tune that we have co-written together. I'm excited to see what Jon comes up with - and its always a blast working at Jeds place. Nice vibe, lots of cool toys and gadgets, and the place serves up a mean Shrimp Cocktail!!

Tomorrow looks to be a good day as well. Mike Clink and I are booked in at a studio out of town, to begin mixing the first two tracks from the Camp Freddy album. After all this time, we are finally starting to mix!! Patience IS a virtue, after all!! So listen in to CFR this weekend, because if all goes well, we will be spinning those tracks (thats a World Exclusive, right??!!) on the show.

As well as the studio/creative stuff, I am studying for the second part of my PADI Open Water Dive Certification, learning five pages of sides for an audition I have tomorrow (DONT ask!!!) and trying to focus on the tasks in hand, instead of drifting away in my head, to an empty white sand beach and crystal blue water!! Hmmm ..... not doing a very good job, it seems!

OK - let me see .....

D-Wez - Yeah, we definately get requests. And we nearly always say yes. Its an honor to have people ask to be involved in something that we have so much fun with .....oh, and congrats on the upright peeing thing. Huge moment!!

Ylais - Doubt if Slash even knows this blog exists!! But if he does, and he's reading this ....."Love ya, Slash!!" And I will see ubout Teenage Kicks for this weekends show.

Laurie - Ikeaman!! Thats funny. I have ordered my cape from Superheros.com, and I believe a workman friend of mine can supply me with an Allen Key. Now excuse me while I fly off to rescue some poor, unsuspecting DIY enthusiast from four hours of self-assembly!

Bonita - I dont watch the DIY tv shows, but I had to ban Jen from watching them. I would get home from a tour or a weekend working away, and find the bathroom painted blood red, or some shelving unit suspended from the ceiling!!

Cori - My Dad has done White Water Rafting, and says its amazing. I actually tried to do it on holiday in the Caribbean one time, but it was back in my 'chemical haze' and it was pretty obvious to the guys running the thing, that I shouldnt be allowed on the raft!! Nuff said!

Tina - God, I hate that pic on E-Bay. Its weird seeing pics for sale on there. I cant see anyone buying one, except maybe my Auntie or someone!!

Jezi - The underwater camera thing will be a must-have. I have done the underwater photography thing already, and you get some cool shots. I will invest when I am there, and get the ....'and here's me with a 22ft Great White Shark!' pic.

Danielle - I dont know when Freddy will do another public show, but I promise that we will make it an all-ages show. Hopefully we will do one at least in LA this summer.

Jay - I was playing through a couple of Gibson combo amps. You didnt really get the complete picture of what the guitar can do. I had three strings going to a clean sound with chorus and delay, and three strings going to an overdriven sound. And my hair sucked!!!

Pauline - NO!! Dont encourage them all. A full on Billy Morrison domestic photo series ....... enough already!!

Brett - No surfing for me, mate. Its all about what's under the water that gets me interested. You surfer guys are way too fit and talented!! Scuba just means you float around and breath! Way easier.

So thats it from me today. I will update on Saturday, before we go on vacation. The rest of the week is too busy, and I need to try and concentrate - have a great few days, thank you to all of you who post and read, and I will see y'all at the weekend.

Peace

Billy
