END OF THE WEEK - AGAIN.
It cant be friday already can it? This week has just flown by. Doheny rehearsals, the VH-1 thing, Camp Freddy album stuff, a couple of evening things and here we are at the end of the week again!! And we play The Gig tomorrow. Hooray!! At last Doheny get out there again. Its been too long.
Yesterday was a fantastic day for me. Being a huge Pistols fan, its been exciting to record God Save The Queen for the Camp Freddy album. But yesterday I moved into real 'lead guitar' territory!! I would say that I am a pretty good rhythm guitar player, but I'm not fantastic at playing lead. Certainly no Navarro, Duffy or Slash!!! So I tend to stay away from doing all the flash bits, and keep with what I'm good at - laying down solid, tight rhythm guitar with a great tone. But yesterday, I actually got to do ALL the lead guitar on God Save The Queen. And it sounds really amazing!! I told Mike that I wanted to have a go at doing it, but it needed to be good, if it was going to be on that record. And he worked me hard - but we did it. So I now have my first proper lead guitar credit!!! On the song that changed my life!!
The VH-1 thing was a fun afternoon as well. They just film you for two or three hours talking about the 70's, 80's etc and take the best two or three minutes of it. I had no idea about some of the questions, because not only am I English (and therefore wasnt in America at the time) I was also completely wasted for all of the Eighties!! Very hard to pay attention to the invention of the Post-It note when you're lying face down in some club in London, wondering how you got there!! But I did my best and hopefully some of the good answers will make the final edit.
I am off to London for a couple of days on Sunday, so I wont be updating the Blog till I get back on Thursday. I'll do a full report then, and fill you in on the details of that weekends upcoming Camp Freddy show. It seems there are no tickets for sale, but if you are in Vegas, just wander down to Body English and look like you are invited and you'll get in!!! Its always unorganized madness there, and just walking straight up to the door always seems to work. Dont tell em I sent you!!
Jay - That Evisu jacket is the two pocket, tight fit style thats hard to get - with a huge painted logo across the back. I got it in Tokyo, but you can always keep your eye on E-Bay.
Kim - I would think that the amount of metal we've put on that SG has drastically changed the sound. I didnt even think to plug it in when we were finished!! Hope it still sounds good!!
WendyBird - Yeah, just put a camera in your bag. We dont mind cameras, although I dont know what the venues policy is - but the club is tiny, so I doubt if they care.
Karen - Thanks for the props with the photo. Its just a digi pic that my wife took of me with the finished guitar. Dont think it would look any good blown up to poster size. But I will put the hi-res version on the CD I send you with all the stuff for your new DohenyMedia site.
Ylais - NICE guitar!! Very Devil-like. Looks like you need to learn all the ACDC songs with that thing around your neck!! Did you get a red one?
So I have had to brush up on my knowledge of movie scenes recently - both for the VH-1 thing earlier in the week, and for something else that I have to do on Saturday afternoon. So I was wondering what your favourite scene in a movie would be?.......would it be the Raging Bull - "You Fuck my wife? You fuck my wife?" Or what about Spies Like Us - "Doctor....Doctor.....Doctor....Doctor......Doctor" No matter how many times I watch the dressing room scene in Spinal Tap - "and who lives in here? No One!!!" - I piss myself laughing. What scene does it for you every time?
Thats it from me. I'll drop back in tomorrow morning before I have to leave for soundcheck - I hope that some of you make it down to the show tomorrow, and I hope you get some pics to share with the rest who cant make it. Put the positive vibes back out there in the Universe, and you will be rewarded richly. And here endeth the sermon!!! And what the fuck am I sucking on in todays pic? Mental note - stop eating sweets when you're walking a red carpet!!!
Peace
Billy

That's great about "God Save The Queen."
Made me really smile reading that.
I've a feeling today's pic is going to end up as an avatar over on the TPC board! You look very cheeky in it.
Yes, it's a red one. Cherry red. Looks just like a lil devil. I did have ACDC in mind.
Will the VH-1 thing air in the UK? Maybe not I guess, since it's USA stuff. That's hilarious. And where were you when the Post-It was invented? Now I'm curious what you're doing in London?!!
I'm going to have to think of a movie line, right now, I've got scenes of Spinal Tap stuck in my head, and that face Nigel pulls. Too funny!
Love
Lisa

Billy...have you seen any of the Harry Potter movies? There is a touching scene in The Prisoner of Azkaban when Sirius, trying desperately to hold Lupin back from his change to werewolf, places his hand over Lupin's chest and says "You live in this heart!"
Not exactly an old enough movie for that to be a "classic" scene but...it does stick in my head. Anyway...enough...back to work...thanks for the momentary distraction. :D

"God Save the Queen" is one of my all-time fav songs, can't wait to hear you on it.
Lisa, the guitar is gorgeous, and I know the reason you picked the lil devil, it fits your personality. ;)
As for movie scene, I recently watched "Dodgeball" and there are 2 scenes in there that killed me.
"If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball" then proceeds to throw wrenches at them. I thought I'd never breathe again watching that scene. Ever laugh so hard that you can't catch your breath?
The other scene is when they first come out on the dodgeball court in the S&M gear. Well I lost it then, almost fell out of my chair laughing.
Have a great weekend guys!
Billy have a great gig tomorrow night and fun in London.
hugs,
tina

Billy! Where did you get that gold guitar pic around your neck? I love it!!!
Lisa, I don't know, I am kinda partial to the avatar I have now of Billy, but, I think I will take you up on your subliminal suggestive ability...
Damm those eyes!!!
Billy, any more thought given to playing a snippet of Sophie B. Hawkins on CFR? I just noticed Jill Sobule has just been added to the May 13th gig, she of the I kissed a girl..you can play that too!!
See you tomorrow!

"I am not an animal" The Elephant Man, John Hurt.
"As you wish" Westley in The Princess Bride
(just watched that a couple of days ago, can't help myself when it's on)
There's a few others, but I can't think of the exact words, I'm more of a remembering the visuals person. I could do a load of those! I love Dustin Hoffman in "Little Big Man", and the Grandfather in that too.
Posted by: ylais at April 22, 2005 04:25 PM
And I'll scream if I ever hear that "Life is like a box of chocolates" one again. ARGHHH!!

Life of Brian. Brian~ "We are all individuals"
Person in crowd~ "I'm not!"
She's a witch. Kill her Kill her! How do you know she's a witch?
Bring us a shubbery!
(help it doesn't stop!! Pick any Monty Python and I'm off)

Damn, once you start thinking about this movie quote thing, it goes on and on, and it bugs you that you can't think of the exact words too..but here's one of my all time faves, Network (1976) Peter Finch (I think)~
"Howard Beale: [shouting] You've got to say, 'I'm a HUMAN BEING, Goddamnit! My life has VALUE!' So I want you to get up now. I want all of you to get up out of your chairs. I want you to get up right now and go to the window. Open it, and stick your head out, and yell,
[shouting]
Howard Beale: 'I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!' I want you to get up right now, sit up, go to your windows, open them and stick your head out and yell - 'I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take this anymore!' Things have got to change. But first, you've gotta get mad!... You've got to say, 'I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore!' Then we'll figure out what to do about the depression and the inflation and the oil crisis. But first get up out of your chairs, open the window, stick your head out, and yell, and say it:
Howard Beale: [screaming at the top of his lungs] "I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!"

Tina~ It's a disease. Once you've caught it, you can't stop, you make a fool out of yourself in conversations by quoting Monty Python, and pulling funny faces, and giggling to yourself, and going "Remember that part when..."
"What's your favourite colour?"
"Ummm..blue"
"Arghh..."

Favorite movie scene: Secretary
[Lee refuses to remove her hands from the desk]
Peter: Are you doing something sexual?
Lee: Does this look sexual to you?
The delivery of Lee's line is just perfect... condescending and humorous, all while conveying her steadfast conviction.

Billy, congrats on the lead guitar credit! Or is that the "LGE" or "SPE" perhaps?
Fave movie lines:
Bueller? Bueller? Bueller? Anyone? Anyone?
I'll get you my pretty...and your little dog, too!
Don't get me started on Spinal Tap. What part of that ISN'T funny? Someone had it on just last week & I walked in at this scene:
Jeanine: You don't, you don't do heavy metal in doubly, you know, I Mean...it's
Nigel: In what??? In what???
Jeanine: In doubly...
Nigel: In dublin!?! What's that?
David: She means Dolby, alright? She means Dolby, you know? You know
perfectly well what she means.
Nigel: ...ha ha...
David: We shan't recover from this one.
Ian: Oh, come on.

I wish I could remember the exact words in Little Big Man, when the Grandfather tells "Dustin" smething like "Snake women has sex with the ponies, but she says she doesn't. I know she does."
And the gay Sioux, "Ooo, Little Big Man, I'll be your wife."

one more, gotsto give a Tom Hanks one since he is my main man!!
when he is on the phone with the Dr Laura type in Sleepless in Seattle, telling her about how lonely he is now that his wife is dead, she asks, "What are you going to do?", and he says, well, I'm going to get up tomorrow, and I'm going to breathe in and out...."
I have to stop, getting all verklempt...

Fav film quotes....
Forrest Gump. (there are many)
"Those look like comfortable shoes"
"I've worn lots of shoes. I bet if I
think about it real hard I could
remember my first pair of shoes".
"She said they was my magic shoes"
Bubba:"People call me Bubba. Just like one
of them redneck boys. Can you believe that?
Forrest:"My name's Forrest Gump. People call me Forrest Gump".
I c&p'd this from www.allmoviescripts.com coz I couldn't remember all of it. I just love it tho & think of it anytime shrimp is mentioned....
Bubba:"Anyway, like I was sayin', shrimp is
the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. There, uh, shrimp kabobs, shrimp creole...
...shrimp gumbo, panfried, deep fried, stir fried. There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp .....shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp
burger, shrimp sandwich... that's, that's about it".
PeeWee's Big Adventure. (ditto)
"Everyone I know has a big but. Simone, let's talk about your big but" - Chatting in the dinosaur at dawn.
"I know you are but what am I?"
"Hello Fraaaancis"
Francis: "Make me!"
PeeWee: "I don't make monkeys, I just train 'em"
Life of Brian.
"Welease Woderick"
Spectator: "I think it was 'Blessed are the cheesemakers'"
Bearded Man's Wife: "Aha, what's so special about the cheesemakers?"
Bearded Man: "Well, obviously it's not meant to be taken literally; it refers
to any manufacturers of dairy products".
Robots.
Fender: "This is our moment to shine, to show them what we're made of.
In my case it's a rare metal called afraidium. It's yellow...tastes like chicken"
