RUBY TUESDAY
And I'm back!! Another glorious morning in sunny Los Angeles - the weather is really weird right now. We get bright blue skies and hot sun shining ..... with one black cloud raining down at the same time!! Lots of rainbows - Ronnie James Dio is loving it!!
OK - enough with the terrible jokes!! Whats been happening? Well, CFR on Saturday pushed the envelope a little, forever to be known as The Sperm Show!! Discussions on how much sperm we ejaculate during a lifetime, and constant Pat O'Brien jokes ...... ('You're SO fuckin HOT!!) put us in an area we havent been in before!! Not sure if it went down well or not - but we had a blast doing it!!!
Yesterday was a studio day for me - spent the afternoon in Brad Spalter's studio, here in LA, working on this song for a friend of ours that is doing a TV show. Kind of a hard-edged pop rock song - sounds pretty good. Brad does a lot of R+B and Hip Hop work, so the studio was full of rappers, lyricists, and had a 'hang out' feel to it - great vibe. And interesting for me to work in, as its normally all about the guitar with me!!! We'll see how it turns out - I am back in there tonight to mix the track and its done.
I also took a trip down to Adidas yesterday (MASSIVE thanks to Alice - Thank you sweetie!!) who hooked a brother UP!!! I came out of there with a bunch of really cool sneakers, and a few OG three stripe tops. Very cool - maybe I'll get out of the Nike Dunk fixation and move onto the Adidas Forum - very comfortable sneaker, and available in a ton of colors.
Sue - I will try to remember to do a playlist from CFR each week, starting this Saturday. It can get pretty hectic in that room, but I will do my best. I'll then post it here every Sunday morning. Good idea!!
Jezzi - The Mel's Diner thing is tomorrow (March 30th) from 7pm - 9pm. You dont need tickets - Its just an informal hang, and a chance to win some shit.
Jay - Toes would definately be stepped on if I was 100% with my answer. Lets say that I am not sure about the term, 'Musician'!!! Talented? YES, absolutely. You ever see DJ AM do his thing? Its awesome - and I have seen many DJ's do stuff that would take me a lifetime to learn how to do. They are creative, talented and the ones that actually MAKE music as well are definately musicians. But some just mix records together ....... not too sure what to call them!!!!
Kim - VERY cool info about the GTA game for PSP. I am sending an enquiry email today!! I SHALL go to the Ball!!!
OK - so a question before I get outta here. Easter. What is the deal with Easter? Can someone PLEASE tell me where we get chocolate eggs and bunny rabbits from? And if you invented your own national holiday, what would it be called, and what would it involve? What would the symbolism be? Remember the Seinfeld with the alternative "Festivus" holiday? Pure Genius comedy!! Whats your holiday?
I am off to FINALLY get the big screen TV today - cannot wait to play Shadow Of Rome on that thing!!
See ya'll soon. (And by the way - I know I've used todays pic before - I am backing up a drive and thats the only pic I have on this computer!!)
Peace
Billy

Billy,
I'll tackle the holiday thing after while,
the big screen TV has me jazzed. What's the lowdown on it? Size? Plasma/LCD? Brand?
Do tell please.
I'm getting my 42 inches of pure flat screen heaven in a month or so, can't fucking wait.
With the obvious religious connontations involved, I'm not sure what the hell bunnies and chocalate eggs have to do with the whole Easter thing. It smacks of a cha-ching thing, much like Valentines Day.
For me, it's just a Festivus for the rest of us.
Congrats on the new TV.
Thanks,
Jay

Hi Billy! I missed you and this blog, and CFR, and my pals on here this weekend.
I spent Easter with my Grandparents eating mostly.
Hope everyone had a good Easter.
Rabbits and eggs are symbols of fertility.
And in our hemisphere that's when the time of fertility starts. I'm way too tired from my car trip home, just got in, to write anymore about it, I'm sure some more people know about the pagan connections.
I think it has a lot to do with people going, Yeah lots of food at last after the winter. Phew we made it, and look there's some rabbits that'll make a great meal, and look at all the eggs..I'm starving, let's have a feast!

Yes, the symbolism for Easter has pagan roots, as do most other Christian holidays. It does indeed symbolize fertility. There's a little bit about it here: http://www.historychannel.com/easter/?page=pagan

I knew about the fertility thing, but why does every holiday have to be about candy? I'll tell you my friends, RETAIL!!!! my first and longest occupation, enough to suck the love of all that is holy almost clean out of you....ANYWAY....
just want to warn you Billy, you might just see me there, I love the one hour free parking, AND the turkey sandwiches, and if I get to catch a glimpse of you, well, that's just gravy...or did I mean to say groovy? Byegones
oh, and my holiday is always my birthday, every ten years I throw a party for myself, this year it will be held at Ray's Downtown Deli, all are welcome, it will be an EXTRAVAGANZA GALORE...complete with a eight foot sub, and a karaoke machine, a full bar, and room for dancing...very festival...lol...ok, off I go, so, Billy, look for the girl with the glasses, and the, hat, no, wait, that's for Dave sightings,ok, the glasses and the Marilyn bag
love to you and yours

B-Mo!
eegads i've missed quite a bit on here! Been working quite a bit and school is starting next week.
Glad you had a good time seeing Billy Idol! I so wanted to go to that but I worked until pretty late and spent some time with my sister since I hadn't seen her in ages.
That is yet another really nice guitar you're holding in that pic there! You've got some great shirts by the way.
The Sperm Show cracked me up! Maybe us women should do something similar and judge on how many gallons of breast milk we produce... ;)
a funny quote from Malcolm in the Middle: "Women are the cows of humans".. ha!
(mooo)
Glad to hear you're doing good and keeping busy making music. I'm very looking forward to the Doheny show that is just some weeks away! If circumstances allow I might show up at Mel's tomorrow night too, I'll be the little brunette with the lady carrying the Marilyn Monroe bag and glasses. ;)

oh, and if I could create a national holiday, it would be National Music day. Whole cities would just jam all day... in clubs, street squares, stadiums, etc... musicians everywhere, concerts all day, all types of music to choose from. It would symbolize a universal love and togetherness of mankind.
Posted by: mortisha8 at March 29, 2005 07:52 PM
i'm joking about the "yet another good looking guitar in the pic" by the way.. i know you used it before, this time it's warmer colored ;)
Posted by: mortisha8 at March 29, 2005 07:59 PM
not joking about the shirts though, you've got some fricken rockin' shirts.
ok I'm done, just wanted to increast the comment count :D

Jezzi...I have a marilyn bag tooooo!!!! Right with pretty sparklies on the dress =) Anyway, I wish I could make it down tomorrow, but Don't get out of work until 9 so out of luck =( Ahh well, we still have the 23rd right =) yay!!
if I had a holiday...it definitely be some kinda commercial crap... cholcolate...and I think songs, yes definitely need abby holiday songs ;) And it has to be a day that people get off from work...I hate the ones where you have to work (like I did on Easter...and not even holiday pay!!! grrr...I digress.....) So its festive and cheery and involves chocolate, but no cards, I'm not a huge fan of 'em. And its gotta be during the warm months, so the kids can all play outside on the grass.

I always thought eggs and rabbits were to do with new life and marking springtime where we see more new born animals (in particular lambs).
As for chocolate, anything left over from christmas gets melted down and reformed for easter. There's a reason supermarket eggs taste stale after all. I couldn't see any Bunnies in sainsbury's, loads of eggs, and a chocolate pig. A PIG!? What's the point? Unless they're trying to make a bankhanded comment on kosher people around passover.
I think the whole month of October should be a 'religious' festival called Rocktober or something, and only Rock music is allowed to be played though out that month. Britney Spears and the like can take the month off.

I know it was a joke Kim but the chocolate eggs are made way back in October as is revealed in this [glass and a;)] half-million pound robbery last year not far from where I live:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/3712246.stm
Anyway Easter has changed a bit as its more about D.I.Y. nowadays. More accidents through D.I.Y. happen at Easter than anytime in the year. At least thats getting back to the Christian side of Easter and Jesus carrying and putting up his own cross and that.
Whatever festival I suggest it should involve a street party like the good old days. Or a community thing that involves errecting large stones in a cricle to confuse our descendents in years to come.

Hey Billy!! Very cool about you doing the hip hop/r&b thing. I mean, we all know you're all about the guitar and we love that but it's sort of cool to get out of your element too, right?
The Easter thing...besides the fertility thing. I think it's a whole changing of the seasons thing too. Bunnies are very Spring. It's all about rebirth and new things. Flowers, bunnies.... are you sick yet????
Have a great Wednesday....

RANT:
Billy i cant beleive you wouldnt let anyone outside of LA do the CFR guitar competition... people stay upto 4am to listen to the wonderful show all around the world, and i know alot of them cried themselves to sleep on saturday nite or sunday morning.
Although the chance of going to the CFR studio would have been amazing a guitar is for life not just for a radio show.... now i will get back to comforting my freinds from all over america especially OHIO and those over here in your birthplace LONDON
On a less rantful not dya like my new shoes>?:

I'd have a Dancing Day. (dancing in the streets, but please don't play that song, I can't stand that song, and I bet someone would play that song, and I'd run screaming down the streets) Symbols? Feet maybe. But that would be discriminatory. You can dance sitting down.
Shoes? Nope, no can do for the same reason.
That Maypole image..I've always loved that. Ribbons and dancing around the Maypole. Daisies in your hair.

Spring is the fertile season. Reborn. Being born..fertility. Think of it as the whole earth coming alive again, and the sun being reborn. Or born. Bunnies are born, eggs are laid (born, soon to hatch) eggs well that's damn obvious..a female becoming fertile when she ovulates.."lays eggs"..and so on.
And yet for things to live, others must die.

i didn't know the origins of the easter bunny and shit 'til i read the comments for this entry, but on a related note, did you know that santa claus was invented by coca cola? they took the idea of st nick and put a commercial face on it.

Billy,
In my haste to find out details on your big screen, I forgot to include "Jay's Holiday" scenario.
I propose a national day of free massages,
a day of getting rubbed the right way if you will.
My holiday shall be dubbed...
"Happy Endings"
Posted by: Jay at March 30, 2005 06:15 PM
Jay~great idea. I could use a rub down right now. A back massage would be really nice. (no innuendoes there, I mean that literally..Jay after your innuendo, I'm finding it difficult not to read into everything)
Billy~Did you ever have a nickname when you were at school?
Hugs
Lisa

Funny~I was looking at Adidas sneakers in my Nan's catalogues this weekend. They're my faves. I'm partial to the indoor soccer ones. :)
When I did play football/soccer I insisted on Adidas boots/cleats. Having a UK/USA jargon problem here.
How did the Mel's diner thing go everyone?
Posted by: ylais at March 30, 2005 11:15 PM
Okay, why chocolate? Because it's an aphrodisiac, and it's been viewed that way for several centuries, even in Europe. (I know you all know it comes from the Aztecs...once I start on symbolism, and history I'm off...and the conversation can get really deep and philosophical...)
