ROCK IS DEAD......I DONT THINK SO!!!
Motley Crue, baby. What a great show. They played for two hours, and just about every song you could wanna hear. Mick Mars shuffling about the stage, looking frail, but playing everything just perfectly. Nikki Sixx - the rock God that he is. Tommy flying about the place on wires, playing different kits in different parts of the arena...... one on the stage, and two about thirty feet in the air!! And dear ol' Vince. Looking better, thanks to his extreme makeover, and singing as much of the stuff as he could manage. He got out a few pure Motley screams, but missed a few too. But he did a great job overall. And the Pyro - Jesus Christ, the Pyro. Better than most New Years Eve celebrations Ive been to see!!!
The band (love em or hate em) are a pure Rock N Roll extravaganza. And for that alone, they deserve respect. The fact that they actually sounded strong, played the right set list, and rocked hard for two hours is all icing on the cake. Shout At The Devil, guys!!
Today I am in a studio, working on a song for a friend of mine. Its attached to an up-coming Reality TV show and of course, I cant say anything right now. But the song is a good one, and I get to co-produce it as well. Hopefully, the show will be a go, and I will be able to tell you more details. But suffice to say that I am greatful that today is another day I get to play guitar.
Its the Billy Idol thing at the Roxy tomorrow - another cool show to look forward to - and then its CFR on Saturday, and I spoke with Dave ..... he will be joining me. Good news. So we will do the second Gibson Guitar Competition question (Dave got all carried away with his beautiful guest last week and forgot to ask it!!).
Wow - I really got some amazing responses to those last two questions. First of all, in case you were wondering, I am The Stones all the way. Its basically the good guys vs the bad guys. The Beatles were fantastic, but they were the nice guys. The Stones, on the other hand, were the guys your mother warned you about - and that is ALL I needed. So its Keith and Mike for me. The other question was based on the time I was in WH Smith in Oxford St in London (it sells magazines and stationary, for those of you not living in the UK) and this really beautiful older woman, dressed in a business suit, walks up to me, and says in a really nice, well to do accent, ....'Excuse me Sir, but do you know if they have any Marijuana in this store?"!!!!!!!! TOTALLY blew my mind!! Anyway ....... before I forget - a massive shout out to Leon 'Sex With Her Makes My Back Burn' Pennington - anyone who comes up with that lyric from a Cult song deserves to be here!! Welcome, Sir.
Bobbi-O - Well spotted. It was, indeed, Mr Keidis who found himself in a spot of agro at the fashion show. But all's well that ends well.
Acacia - Dropping your purse is a good one!! Any gentleman would stoop to help you.
And Jay - If you, for ONE moment, think that I am going to ask, The Pistols or The Clash? then you are mistaken Sir!! That is the most commonly asked question that gets me all riled up!! No competition. Yes, The Clash were a great band, but in reality, they were a different animal entirely to the Pistols. The whole 'One Album, 14 Month career' thing that the Pistols did, makes them the most important Punk band, bar none. No-one who continued/evolved/tried to sell records is even in the same genre!!! There - I have said my piece!!
OK - I have to get moving. I LOVED everyones Sav-On answers, and I will be keeping one ear to the ground when I am shopping in there from now on!! Have a great day everyone - and thanks all for being a part of things here. I will drop more details of what Doheny are doing in New York nearer the time - for now, keep listening to Indie 103.1 for details of the April show that we are doing at The Gig. We are thinking of re-vamping our image - check out todays pic for a taster!!!!
Peace Out People
Billy

any chance of a doheny gig while in nyc?
intersting stuff...i wonder if what you said about the stones/beatles/clash/pistols, etc., has to do with weather you grew up with those bands around or close to their prime or not. for someone like myself, i tend to forget what those bands TRULY brought to the table and the effect they had other than the music or some rock and roll documentary thing. dont get me wrong i know the pistols changed everything in such a short amount of time but the effect would be 100x greater on say, a 15-year old English kid in 1977. for me, i suppose it would be akin to describing the effect, greatness and importance of Nirvana to a kid today. there's no way to describe the whole feeling of what they did to someone who was not there at the time...you kind of just had to be there! hate to ramble - i love talking about music.

Billy,
I knew you were a Pistols guy through and through, I fell into the Rock N Roll Swindle vortex as well and have never looked back.
Thanks,
Jay

Jay, I knew that too. and I knew you were Stones Billy. :D I mean it's obvious!
Trouble is my Mum never warned me off guys like them, she fancied them herself!

Billy,
Did you get a Sony PSP at the event you went to?

Suddenly feeling fortunate to have lived through The Stones, Beatles, The Pistols, The Clash, and Nirvana! Whoa! Let's not forget the whole glam thing with T-Rex and co. either! But even though I lived through the Nirvana thing, I was in the States then, I still don't get why so many people say they changed things so much. Guess I'm on a different cloud. Though oddly Mr. Cobain's death affected me very badly.
Billy~That Billy Idol gig should be great, with Steve Jones there.
Love to all, Lisa xxxx

Me again..sorry everyone..I think the upcoming full moon is getting to me..
In case anyone is wondering why I get google alerts for Anthony Keidis, it's totally innocent, I'm waiting for that next RHCP record, or another RHCP tour.
I had Flea too, but I kept getting alerts about fleas. I swear, loads of them. And someone else has his real name; someone else has Chad's name too. I had a few alerts on music I like going a while back but it clogged my mailbox up too much.
Having an alert for Red Hot Chili Peppers didn't work too well either. You can imagine what I got alerts about!

I'm sorry Billy, but I have to disagree with your Beatles/Stones analogy!
I'd say it was Beatles = Peace, Pot, Microdot
Stones = Sex, Drugs & Rock & Roll
... and me, I'll always have kind of an "inner hippy".... :oD

Billy,
Thanks for keeping this up for all of us. It seems that you are way to busy to be fussing with us. But you keep going.
You rock hard,
Matt

Billy how do you purchase tickets for tomorrow. I checked ticketmaster and the Roxy website and no such luck. It's not listed
(very confused)

Revamping your image huh? I hear that one of the Hard Rock's has an old Crue purple spandex jumpsuit...maybe they'll let you borrow it!
We always thought you'd look good in a bit of eyeliner...a guy can never be wearing too much eyeliner. ;-)

Wendybird~ You mean the Billy Idol show right?
I saw on his website yesterday, that you could only get tickets for the show if you got wristbands on March 22nd, when you bought the new CD. I can't recall offhand where that was in LA; but also then you got to go to a signing Friday night, March 25th, and tickets for the concert.
Unfortunately, I only saw about it yesterday..I was going to post about it, but since March 22nd was over, I didn't.
Maybe Mr. Morrison knows more though.
(Got to call you Mr. Morrison, Billy, it's getting confusing talking about Billy Idol in the same post.)
Also~check out Billy Idol's website~it has details on there!
Hugs
Lisa

(then yap to him about seeing him in NYC at The Beacon Theatre, and St. John's University, in the 80's? yap to Steve Stevens about that too. I saw them more, but that's lost in my memory archives somewhere)
