METALWORK 101
What a fun day yesterday!! I have been asked by Gibson guitars, to decorate an SG model for a charity auction to aid Breast Cancer. Of course I said yes, and I have enlisted the multi-talented Mr LaRoque to help me transform a Standard SG into a Mad Max style work of art. At least, that was the plan. I spent the afternoon with Colin in his garage with some sheet steel, a few bits of titanium, a drill, a branding iron, an acetalyne torch (full on welding rig!!) and set about attacking the poor guitar, drilling holes in it, screwing metal to it, branding it …….. I’ve always wanted to fuck a guitar up like that, and finally got the chance. Colin is great with stuff like that, and his tattoo skills definitely showed as he cut the steel into cool patterns and helped me with the branding designs. Its not finished yet, but it sure is a lot of fun working on it. Pictures of the finished piece will be posted when its done.
Its rehearsals again today, and we will be working on some specific songs as we are planning a showcase type thing for some labels soon. So we will be working on getting the best songs as tight as we can. My friends at Audio Technica sent us a bunch of vocal mics, so we will be able to dial in not only Jons voice, but mine and Seans as well. And I am hoping that we take delivery of a new bass stack as well. Tech 21 in NYC do this awesome looking bass stack called the Landmark 300 and I’m hoping we are going to be able to try one out for a couple of weeks and see how it sounds.
Next week is LA Fashion Week (where does the time go?! Doheny played the Rock N Republic show last year …… has it really been a whole year??!!) so I am sure there will be a bunch of events to attend and stories to tell.
Regarding the Deep Purple DVD that Jon asked about – The Doheny Message Board on the main site – www.dohenymusic.com - is now fixed and we are back to normal service. So why don’t you post a message for Jon on there, and bug him until he tells you all what it is??!!
Matt – I have no idea what PWEI song you are referring to, but if you find out, let me know. Their favourite lyric of mine was …..”Big Mac, Fries to go, gimme Big Mac, Fries to go” !!!!
Loved all the childrens books you all mentioned. I have read most of them (I used to read so much more before there were computers. Now I read the Yahoo News Page and a bunch of emails!!) I did read the spate of music bios from last year (Tommyland, Daves one, the Ramones one) but I really should start reading more. The last books I really got into were the Terry Pratchet Discworld things …… oh yeah, and all the Harry Potter books!!!
Apologies for not checking in sooner. Its been an ‘up and down’ few days, working on the next Freddy show and this Doheny showcase thing and I just haven’t had time. I will be back in the morning for sure. Anyone in LA wanting a cool show to go to tonight should be at The Key Club for Ian Hunter. He was the singer in Mott The Hoople (who sang the Camp Freddy favourite, All The Young Dudes) and he still puts on a great show. Have a great day everyone and don’t do anything I wouldn’t do!!!
Peace
Billy

Billy I am so glad you've posted, I was wondering where you'd got to.
Designing the guitar sounds like great fun.
I am curios to know what happens when you do a showcase, whats it all about?
I stopped by the doheny board yesterday, but I could not remember my password, I saw John had posted though, and I will go back over there to sort it out.(The password, not John)
Love and Hugs

Billy,
Would you be so kind to rock The Glitterati's single "You Got Nothing On Me"
on CFR Saturday evening?
Thank you,
Jay

I'm not sure what my childhood book was. Something to do with the Quangle Wnagle Tree or something. I do know George W Bush was asked what his favourite childhood book was, and he said "The hungry hungry caterpillar". Which was first published in the year after he 'graduated' from university. Says it all really ...
I'd like to try and get "pressure" by Skindred played on CFR, as their song "Together" was played by accident last time, but still good. I've just seen their new video and it looks ace, you should check it out on this link http://www.bielerbros.com/samples/skindred_pressure.mov
Take it easy

You know, I have to say that I love the two 15 year-olds who call into CFR with their weekly 'homework' assignment. It has become one of my favorite segements on the show.

Question? Doheny merch anytime soon? Yes/no/when/where to buy? I need a new t-shirt! All I wear now is plain black tees. Yes it's true. (grumbling that I didn't get one before..why didn't I? There was a reason~what was it? ran out of cash at xmas maybe? I'm an idiot sometimes. How come I can remember things from when I was 2 years old, but not from a few months, or even minutes ago?) I could use a new hat too.
Morning thoughts...couldn't go to sleep after CFR, and missed the first half because I fell asleep.

I should probably post this on Dave's blog, but I gave up smoking cigarettes (and other substances) in November, so I know what Dave's going through. It'll be 4 months on Wednesday, and I've not sparked up in that time (although been tempted lots!).
