FASHION WEEK
Is it really wednesday already? God, where does the time go? Its Fashion Week in LA yet again - it seems only a short while ago that Doheny played at the Rock N Republic show but it must be a year ago. Anyway - it is really funny around here right now. There are events, shows and functions ALL DAY AND NIGHT for a whole week. The fashion scene is like none other - immensely creative and outspoken designers all descending on Los Angeles and fighting to be the number one runway show. Monday was the launch of the new Sony PSP, and they held a fashion show to celebrate. Designers included J-Lo, Jenni Kayne, Henry Dwarte and Baby Phat. It was an incredibly lavish affair, and as well as showing their clothes, the designers had made exclusive cases for the tiny games machine. Very cool idea. Tonight is the Adidas thing, tomorrow is a Marc Jacobs show, friday is all about Jenni Kayne, and Saturday ...... well, Saturday is the Rock N Republic fashion show, with Camp Freddy playing!! Dave will be doing guitar overdubs on TPC record, so he wont be at the gig (we are all bummed but totally understand) but Chaney and Perkins will be there, along with Duffy, Cantrell, Jonesy, Mark McGrath and Josh Todd. Its a small set, with a few close friends.
The Doheny show at The Viper in May is not happening, as we will all be in New York that day. BUT - we can confirm that we will be playing a show at THE GIG on MELROSE on SAT 23rd APRIL. We will be going onstage at 10.00pm sharp. TK from Indie will be DJ'ing before and after we play, and Chris Wyse's band, Owl, will be playing at 9.00pm. Chris has played bass in Camp Freddy before, and I played his band last week on CFR. I am very happy that we have a show on the books - seems like forever since our last gig. We want to do one or two before we go to New York. So there you have it. We rehearsed yesterday, and despite all of us being tired, we sounded good. We will definately be playing a few songs that we havent played live before. A couple of brand new ones, and a couple that we just havent got around to before.
Amber - The guitar competition is open to anyone. The problem is that the radio station is only a local one, so if you listen on the web, there is a time delay. Not much chance of calling in on the third week and being in time. But we have two of these Epiphone guitars, so maybe we will hold a competition on the site for the other one later. And if the winner cant get into the station, we would of course, send the guitar to them. Its just that the third week question is going to be asked and THEN everyone will call in and give us all three answers. So apologies for the seemingly 'Californian-Only' nature of the thing - its cos the radio show is a Californian one!!!
D-Wez - Good question about the money. Lets just say that Camp Freddy seems to be the only band of its type around, and therefore there is nothing to compare our fees to - we do get paid very well. BUT we also do a LOT of charity / free stuff. So it balances out.
WP - Obviously, its all Gibson live, and mainly the same in the studio. I do bust out a Telecaster for some stuff in the studio, and I also dig out an Ibanez RG760 if its needed (the locking Floyd Rose thing!!)
Lisa - The point of a showcase is to impress someone. Could be a manager, a label, agents ...... its a way of getting the band in front of business people who usually dont go to see bands play live. (Believe it or not, the guys in charge in this business dont actually like going to gigs!!!)
OK - so I have to do a bunch of tests on some new equipment that came in for my studio. Its all been put in the racks, and now I get to spend a few hours playing around with it and learning what it all does!! Then this afternoon, it will be work in the office - phones and emails about the upcoming Freddy and Doheny stuff, and then its off to the Adidas party. Steve Jones is spinning the tunes there, so it should be a great laugh. Thanks to everyone for your posts - I LOVE reading them. And apologies for not posting sooner - the week is already running away with me. New equipment, fashion shows, rehearsals, phone calls ....... its all go 'round 'ere, mate!!!
Have a great day and hopefully get to see some of you at the show in April.
Peace
Billy

Thanks for taking my question in the spirit it was intended. As you say the charity stuff balances out, but I guess the private ones are nice work if you can get it.
I can honestly say that now as a civil servant my work, although not quite as exciting as my work for the private sector is far more rewarding, as it's not for profit, we're helping people and putting "customers first" even if we do put a road through their back garden...

i have the perrrfect place for CF to play...the Hamptons this summer out on the eastern end of Long Island. it's basically where NYC people party in the summer. it is off the hook...tons of celebs, parties, women and loads of $$$ all around. here's hoping someone throws some serious bills your way...i know Sony threw some ridiculous Playstation parties last year. either way, i can't wait till summer, licking my chops at the mere thought of it..

Hiya everyone! Tina where are you girl?
Billy~you're so busy, my head was spinning reading your post. Thanks for answering all our questions! I thought that was what a showcase was for, wanted to be sure, and I suppose I couldn't fathom the not wanting to go to gigs thing! Okay, I can fathom not wanting to be in the middle of a huge crowd of people moshing. Almost got my neck broken at one gig when some idiot leapt on my head and got stuck there, and he was huge, and I couldn't get him off!
Enjoy the fashion week!
Love and hugs to all,
Lisa

Thought I would push Lisa off the pooter and ask a question myself.
Billy, how often do you practice nowadays, Do you pick up the guitar very often whilst at home?
Also how often did you practice when you were first learning?

Hey Billy, New York should be fun, business and pleasure hopefully. Just the 6 or so hours there, and the same back on plane. Maybe work out a Doheny band poker tournament to pass the time. Just don't do something you might regret, liking betting a pair of your favourite dunks.
I saw an all girl Sex Pistols cover band last night, called "The Water Pistols". I think I'm in love; who wouldn't melt for a hot punk chick belting out "Pretty Vacant"? It was really good, the sound and everything was spot on, Jonesy would be proud I'm sure.

lol lisa, don't you know ladies are supposed to stand off to the side of mosh pits :) i had the pleasure of receiving a slight concussion in the pit at a cult gig in 2001 - got kicked in the head very hard and was woozey for about a week after that.
that show was bananas, same gig that featured free whiskey shots before the show started, courtesy of wild turkey. they literally set up a booth beforehand and you could sample 4 or 5 different shots of whiskey. people were pounding them left and right. needless to say, once the band came on, the place erupted...some idiot even threw a full can of beer at ian astbury, he was bloodied and everything.
i've given up on those pit days though...i got beat to hell by a bunch of 15 year-olds at a Used gig a few years back. decided to hang it up after that :/

what lisa, you missing me? ;) pppstt Dave, if Lisa beats ya up for using the puter you can hide behind me, I'll protect ya from the bad Lisa ;)
Billy, so what is doheny going to be doing in NY?
And why oh why tell me that Duffy is going to be playing with you guys, it'll just leave me crying in my beer, if I drank beer that is. ;)
I CANNOT wait for this week to end, I have all next week off supposedly but everyone at work is coming at me with all this stuff that has to be done before month end and now they know I won't be in I've got to get it done now. I'm so major stressed right now so hence Lisa, my lil pookiebear, my kind of silence over here. ;)
Anyhoo, anyone watching american idol? Love Bo. ;)
hugs,
tina

Ladies stand at the side of mosh pits???
Oh how I wish I had known that Bobbi O...think of all those cracked ribs, earrings ripped out, steel-toed boots in the back of the head and clumps of hair missing that I could have saved myself from experiencing... ;-)

Thanks for the offer of the shield Tina, I may have to take ya up on that one day:)
Billy, another question if I may?
Is there any little goodies that you miss from the UK, Like chocolate or some of the simple things in life that you cannot get in the States?
