WEEKEND WARRIORS

PosterToday's post title was inspired by an attempt by me to drive down Sunset Blvd last night!! A simple task, one might think. But oh no - due to the phenomenon known as 'Cruising' in LA, actually going anywhere near Sunset on a weekend results in an hour or so of sitting still in your car, watching people walk past you quicker than you can drive. And I dont understand it. The Weekend Warriors descend on one street...... not an area, or even a few blocks...... ONE street. They come from all over So Cal just to do this. And then, once they get here.......they do NOTHING!!! They dont go anywhere. They just drive from The Key Club, down Sunset, to about Crescent Heights...... and then they turn around and drive back!! These people spend all night just driving up and down the same street. Now if they were drag racing or something, I would understand it. But there are so many vehicles out driving up and down, that the traffic is stationary!! The weird thing is that none of these people actually live in Hollywood. They all drive for miles to experience the excitement that is ..... 'The Friday Night Traffic Jam On Sunset'. Please explain!!!!

Anyway - I have written down all your requests for tonights CFR and I will do my best to make everyone happy. I am not promising anything, but once I have posted this, I am going to put my playlist together and I'll see what I can do. And while I am on the subject of Indie 103.1 - I just want to go on record as saying that Camp Freddy are proud to be part of the Indie 103.1 family. Michael Steele and Indie have been behind us all the way, and while Dave and I can get a little hopped up on caffeine sometimes and 'get on one' about formats and stuff, its all just in good fun. The truth is that Michael allows us to do what we want and we are honored to be there. So lets all be nice to those guys over there - I think everyone took it the wrong way when Dave and I were telling everyone to write to Steele and complain...... because he got a bunch of emails!!! So now - lets all write to him and tell him how much we love Indie!!!!! Tonight I have Ricky Warwick (from The Almighty) as a guest - Ricky's a great guy and I haven't seen him in years so I, for one, am looking forward to it. I hope Dave finds 20mins to pop in and say hi.

I'm gonna get started on the playlist - I love that the posts are picking up and I see a few new people posting - welcome one and all - Doheny will be back playing soon with a bunch of new songs, and hopefully some news about the record that we all wanna make!!! We'll see how the next few weeks go, but we are taking February off from the rehearsal room, to concentrate on these new songs in the studio. March rehearsals are booked and we are looking into doing a show or two then as well. Thanks for everyones patience and I, myself, will be back here tomorrow, rambling on as usual!!. Take care and have a fun weekend.

Peace

Billy

Ummmm, ummmm, Billy, I was going to tell you I used to be a weekend warrior, but I never even got THAT far. I wouldn't even go to L.A. unless I had a definitive place to go, but I would do some looky-looing along the way. and that was just two years ago.

I agree with you, that they should just get out of their cars and walk , since there is NO public parking in LA!! I mean, that's how I got on camera, I was just looking tremendously out of place, walking down Sunset Boulevard like it was MY street!!!

ok, nevermind...original reason for post
can you find some Ani DiFranco? Maybe some Superhero, or Out of Range? and Eisley, they're pretty good too

love to you and yours, Billy
from me and mine!!

Oh my god, I SO hear ya Billy about the cruising. On a weeknight I can get home from that area of Sunset in about 10 or 15 minutes. But on a Friday or Saturday night.... takes an hour or more.

Have fun on CFR! I should be able to listen tonight.

Isn't there a 'No Cruising' law? I thought you got a fine or something if you were caught cruising by the same place more than twice in an hour or something...

I suppose that would suck if you actually were looking for parking and circling the block, but if it takes you an hour just to drive the strip ONCE, then maybe that's why no one gets fined!! How can you drive by twice if you're not driving anywhere at all, but stuck in traffic?

While supporting a friend's Def Leppard habit in 2003, I had the pleasure of seeing Mr. Warwick perform on 4 occasions in 3 states. He’s one of the few opening acts that I have ever made the effort to see. And he’s bringing his guitar for CFR tonight? Is it too late for a request? I would love to hear “Mysterioso” or “Three Sides to Every Story”!

Billy that's why I go down fountain and skip most of the traffic; me and traffic, slow drivers, bad drivers, drivers in general... don't mix.

I don’t get the whole cruising mentality; maybe I’ll try it one day just to see what it’s all about.

Kinda wish we lived in the Jetson’s era.

But wait a minute, why did you want to drive down Sunset Blvd?

Loved the acoustic jams on CFR tonight Billy, rock on! Great show :)
I'm happy to say I got a Camp Freddy shirt that I will proudly display provided it isn't too huge... even if it is I can wear it to bed. And my friend Misty won tickets to the Music for Relief Benefit!

Hey Billy,

Nice show tonight, great jams as usual, i hope the likes of matt dont mind the world knowing they frequent strip clubs!

It was a little frustrating for Kim who sat here for the whole two hours getting hung up on by the wonderful Indie 103.1 switchboard lady. And also frustrating to see my £10 phone card go down the drain. But hey we will keep trying just to let you know we do care back here in Blighty.

Thanks for playing California another stunning track, cant wait to see you guys again (you put me on the guestlist for the Spider gig last summer if you remember).

Anyway cheers for the music

Wes

Billy, I have to tell you I'm really quite upset. I dialed into Indie 103 explaining who I was and I wanted to talk to Camp Freddy Radio. They put me on hold. This is fine, and what I expected.

Waited for 5 minutes, listening to the show while on hold, then Indie cuts me off. I ring in again, same scenario happens, hold for 5 mins, cut off.

I ring again and ask the lady operator if they are having any problems their end, they say no just lots of people on hold (although you said no one ringing in), and that calls are taken at random. Anyway, I go back on hold for about 30 minutes, listening to the show, and the lady says "Hello?"

I say hello back, she doesn't hear me. I say hello again, she still doesn't hear me then put the phone down / cut me off.

I try ringing back in again, it gets as far as ringing then cuts me off after several rings. And this cycle has repeated again and again while I try ringing Indie while you're on the air. I can't even get through to Indie now.

Now I know the the number for Indie 103 is free, but not for outside US. For the 40 or so minutes I'm on hold, I'm being charged at an international rate, I'm even being charged when the message for the freephone number plays.

And I don't even get through (I've been calling since the show started at 6pm your time), all at my expense.

I know this has nothing to do with you, you're completely oblivious while on the air, but Indie have cost me a small fortune for nothing, and I feel I should be compensated some how.

I was more then happy to pay my phone bill if I got through to camp freddy radio, but it didn't happen. And I feel it's down to the operators at Indie103. I mean it was my 23rd birthday on Thursday 11th, I got some money together, and decided to put it towards phoning Canmp Freddy Radio. I call from England so stay up until 2am when the show starts, and up until 4am which is the time I'm writing this to you.

If you'd like to 'talk' to me in person about this rather then talk about it on the blog, please contact me on my email toastie-kim@hotmail.co.uk

I don't mean to burden you with my problems, but I feel we're all honest on here as a community, and I felt you should know.

I will say thanks to you for Skindred "Pressure" being played. I needed a really up beat possitive song after my hassle!

Thanks for reading

Kim

Billy~Great Show! :D Thanks so much for playing the Ian Dury song, and giving me a shout out. I got all excited when you did that, and jumped up and boogied around the house...with my dog chasing me!

Got to get some rest now..I'll be back.

love and hugs Lisa xxxx

Great job on the show tonight, Billy :)

I see I'm not the only one who had ..er...trouble with the phones. I kept calling and getting hung up on, or it would ring and ring and ring. And I knew all the answers! (At least my calls were local).

But as a lovely consolation prize I will soon be sporting a new Indie 103.1 t-shirt.

Billy,

Thanks for the Buckcherry love on CFR, very cool.

"Prime Mover" by Zodiac Mindwarp And The Love Reaction was a huge highlight. They still gig every now and again, check 'em out at http://www.zodiacmindwarp.com/.

Also, if you want to relive some Zodiac debauchery, read "Fucked By Rock, The Unspeakable Confessions Of Zodiac Mindwarp"
by Mark Manning (aka Zodiac Mindwarp). It's absolutely the best rock n roll book I've ever read. It makes the Motley book, "The Dirt" look like a fluff piece. Heavy shit indeed.

Thanks,
Jay

Hmm, just listened to show again, don't know why I didn't noticed before (maybe being near 4am and shattered has soemthing to do with it!), Skindred got played, but it was Together not Pressure lol. Nevermind, it's all good, Skindred on Indie 103.1 is good :)

hey billy!

thanks so much for mentioning the rejection number on CFR! i tried to remember it to let my girlfriends know about it for laughs, but i didn't actually expect to use it the next day! i felt evil giving it out but the guy was a jerk so i didn't feel too bad. (i just had trouble remembering it so i had to pretend like i had just switched my phone number) i couldn't stop laughing afterwards though! just thought it would be a funny thing to share...

p.s. heard "california" for the first time when you played it on CFR last night and it sounded awesome!
