LAST NIGHTS KEY CLUB SHOW

Vh1_big_in_04Wow. Its over. That was such a whirlwind evening, I cant quite believe it! My day started off with a business meeting about other stuff, so it took a few hours to get my head into full 'Doheny' mode. But once I showed up at The Key Club at 1.00pm, it was all systems go. And I didnt stop until I got home at 1.00am!! The first thing was making all the equipment for all three bands fit on the stage, along with the four TV monitors. As The Panic Channel soundchecked, I was running around the venue looking for three barstools (for us to use during our acoustic song, Dust), fielding phonecalls from people wanting to be on the guest list (even though it was only one dollar to get in!!) and making arrangements for todays Camp Freddy show.
The visual projections that I had been working on all week turned out great. During soundcheck, I was able to take a good look at the stage, and it really did look amazing. We had the four screens onstage, as well as three 'pillars' of white fabric from floor to ceiling, stretched tight and light from the ground. A good, cheap production trick. Soundcheck was fine, and immediately afterwards, I went downstairs into the green room, to do the one-hour special CFR broadcast with Dave. We had Jon as a guest and the three of us messed about for an hour, played a few tunes, put Flea on the spot when he walked in while we were on air, and generally had a good time. Once the radio show was done, we then went and did a photoshoot, and it was time to go onstage.
By the time I walked out onto the stage, I was absolutely shattered!! SO tired from all the running about and the long days this week!! And I hadnt played a note yet!! But we opened with one of our new songs, called Does It Really Matter and everything was ok. The lights and TV's looked cool, we were playing well, and I relaxed into the show. The club was nicely full, and we went straight into Drive Me, followed by Watching It all Burn. Then we played Five Miles High. I love this song, but we dont do it at every show. It was a good choice and went down really well. Next up was Evergreen - seemed a little fast to me, but we played it ok. I was, by this time, struggling to keep my guitars in tune, as it was so hot on the stage. Swapped the Les Paul for an acoustic, pulled out the barstools, and played Dust. Jon and I definately sound good together, harmonizing the vocals on that track, and it was great to sit down for a few minutes!!!
The rest of the set flew by - Falling Through, So Right, Fade Away. And we were done. The crowd seemed to like it, and we were all pretty happy with the performance. A round of 'Thank You's', 'Well Dones', and 'You guys were great', and I went out to watch TPC. I have to say that those guys are so in control, so powerful yet melodic, and are just an all-around amazing band. I watched two thirds of their set, and was blown away by that amazing rythym section, Daves guitar playing, and Steve's ridiculously good voice!! Thanks TPC for finishing off my night perfectly.

So that was that. A good, fun evening of rock and roll, courtesy of The Key Club and Indie 103.1FM. Today is a private Camp Freddy show, so I am still with the 'Gig Head'. But the weekend will be a relaxing two days, before Doheny are back in the rehearsal room. More new songs, and more movement towards securing the deal that we want. A MASSIVE thank you to you guys who came to last nights show - I ran into a few of you, and it was nice to know that you were out there when we played. I hope you had a good time. I'll be back, as usual, tomorrow morning. And until I get some pics back from the photographers that were at the show, I have NOTHING to put up, so todays pic is from Wednesday's VH-1 Big In 04 show. I will get pics and video up from the Key Club early next week.

Peace

Billy

I'm so happy it went well. Congrats!
And another show tonight after all that work!
Amazing.
I love the way you said you're still with your "gig head." (Picturing you switching heads like
Kryten in Red Dwarf) I've just been reminded Wurzel Gummidge had different heads too; but I
didn't much like that show, so I'll stick to Kryten.

Billy~ I love the way you've described everything, like what you did, and stuff like it was hard to stay in tune because it was so hot. It brings it to life. Thanks.
Love Lisa xxxx

PS Looking forward to seeing some of it all on here. :)

Question~ Did you have anyone helping you with all that, or did you set it all up by yourself?

Billy ~~ Thank you! Awesome show. So glad I was able to be there. The visuals worked great! You sounded amazing live. Loved the acoustic bit.

A great night had by all.

Billy, question for you...

Are there any plans for having any posters made? With all the good pics that have been taken of you guys...

Billy!! I am getting the feeling my guest didn't make it in my place last night. Did you get your thank you card from me? If not, let me just say again how much I appreciate what a consummate professional you are, taking charge of every detail to make sure your craft is expressed the way that you want it...You are one seriously awesome dude....and Wicked Sexy as well
congrats on last night,
jezebel(Happy Christmas)

Billy--I can tell you the monkeys that showed up in chat had a great time listening to the pre-concert insanity. I wish I could have been there. I could have had free tickets if only Indie could have paid for my airfare! Well, I am bracing myself for a haircut tomorrow...it'll be hard...my hair is getting into ass-length territory but fear not, I am not chopping it off...so the perv magnet hair (you know what I'm talking about Tina) shall remain...
Can't wait to hear CFR tomorrow! And Billy--any chance of us ever hearing any live Doheny songs from the shows? That would be great! Thanks!

sounds like it was a great concert, i'm glad to hear all your hard work paid off billy and I hope the charity event turned out well.

jules, you know you can't cut it all off, what would all those men on aol and myspace do if they can't have you to proposition. ;)

Billy! You keep yourself quite busy, don't you?!

You guys were great last night! I really liked Dust! I was the little one up front on your side with the long dark hair and Panic Channel pin necklace.

Jez- Blanca got the cards to Dave who I'm sure passed it on to Billy.

Tell us more about this private CF show..? Had no clue there was one.

Hey Billy! I had fun talking to you, Dave and Dono on CFR! The one time I get on and I can't hear the stream! I had no idea they'd put me on for that....Perhaps you could find out if it's true that the shows are archived on 6767.com...I would love to hear the show it sounds great from what Louise is typing to us!

It sounds like NONE of us outside of LA got to hear CFR tonight. I did some digging, and found out the where/when on the UK broadcast...

The website is http://www.totalrock.com/

They are listing the times that CFR is airing as Mondays between 11pm and midnight (GMT) and Thursdays from 3am-4am (GMT).

The only problem is that each of the two times is only for an hour. I don't know if we're getting the first 1/2 of the show on a Monday and the rest on the Thursday, or what. I guess we'll have to give it a listen and find out. Any ideas on that one Billy?

Don't forget to do your math and work out the time difference, cos those times are GMT, also known as London time. ;-)
