INTERVIEWS AND OTHER THINGS
Wow. That was a heavy day yesterday with the whole Dimebag thing. My thoughts go out to his family and friends, and may he rest in peace.
So yesterday was a busy day for me. The first part of the day was sifting through the new pics from photographer, Maryanne Bilham. She did the new Strip across the top of this Blog and I love it. I just added the logo’s and the name. Thanks Maryanne – lets do it again sometime.
Then I spent a lot of it working on demos with Jon. We are starting to get everything together – every track that we’ve done so far, and get a working demo of them, so that we can begin to think about the album. Its still a long way off, so don’t start asking when its coming out just yet!! But we are collating all our material, and sifting through it between us, and our managers. We’ll see what we all think should be on the record, and no doubt we’ll write a couple more while we are in studio mode. So Jon did a bunch of vocals in the afternoon, and then I spent a few hours editing and mixing. Just things like certain choruses that were on the original demos have changed now when we do them live. So we are kinda ‘updating’ the demos to match.
Evening rolled around, and it was time for me to go to the Guitar Center on Sunset to do a TV interview. It was the thing I mentioned for Sky TV. I got to the GC about 10pm, and waited…and waited…….and waited. They were having equipment difficulties and eventually, about Midnight, I couldn’t hang around any longer. So I left!!! I believe they will now send a crew to the Doheny rehearsal this afternoon and shoot the thing there.
Today is more Doheny rehearsals. I think it will be the day that we add California to the live set. Its been tough to get a cool live version, but I think we’re there. And Does It Really Matter (another new one, that we opened with at the Key Club) has also been sounding really good. We’ll probably also go through the complete list of tracks and see if there’s anything to knock into shape. The idea is to finish 2004 with every track demoed and ready to play in a live environment. That way we start 2005 with everything ready to go, and we have clear minds to write some more.
I also want to mention the Modern Guitars Interview that I spoke of a few days ago. Its been finished and you can read it at http://www.modernguitars.com/archives/000122.html
I wanna thank those guys for making it a really easy process. I might do a weekly column or a blog for them – we’ll see if it works out. But I was happy with the end result.
OK – well that’s it from me. Time to get into the day. By the way – your comments to Santa as he came down the chimney made me cry with laughter – some of them are just pure genius. Thank you all for those. Have a great Friday and roll on the weekend. Keep smiling and don’t forget……”Big Up Doheny”!!
Peace
Billy

Billy,
Great article, very informative. Thank you for linking.
With all the Duffy/Cult references, it got me wondering, do you have any idea what Mike Dimkitch is up to these days? Mike became a favorite of mine (and I'm sure a few more on our blog here) and I think a lot of us would enjoy a "Cowboy" update.
Any insight?
Have a great weekend all.
Thank you,
Jay

...I remember Duffy telling me one time, "No matter what it is you’re playing, lean back and look up and it’ll look like you know what you’re doing!"
ROFLMAO!!
GREAT interview Billy! I love how you are so humble about your whole 'rock star' experience. You have been on stage with some AMAZING people, and it's so nice to see that even though you're up there WITH them, you still cherish those moments like any fan would. I also find it really sweet that you say you are proud to have been with The Cult. (Us Culties love sappy stuff like that...lol) They have had a huge revolving door over the years, but they were definately in a good place with you behind the bass for them.
A conceptual three-part symphony? Where do you find the time?!? LOL Sounds interesting. Can't wait to check that out.
Oh, and one more thing...I've gotta ask...
You have all those DH shows backed up, eh? Any chance of ever letting one or two DVD's slip out there as bootlegs? PLEASE?????
LOL
Ciao!

Very nice article Billy. Thanks for that.
Don't you get the heebie jeebies when you're reading an interview and just at that very part where someone is mentioning a Venti Gingerbread Latte from Starbucks you yourself are taking a sip of your own Venti Gingerbread Latte? No? Just me then? Huh.

hey billy, wonderful article, really enjoyed it.
LOVE the pictures in the title bar, very classy photos. You did an excellent job on the logo work also. You're becoming quite the graphic artist. Isn't there anything you can't do?
Tomorrow night is CFR and hopefully (fingers crossed) everything will be working and we can listen.
I've been doing some doheny streeting this week, posted info and links to all the doheny sites on several music boards. Hopefully some will wander in.
2 of my neighbours have dogs that bark and bark and bark. Reminded me last night while awake with the barking about the Seinfeld episode with the barking dog and elaine hired newman and kramer to kidnap the dog and take it far away. Anyone want to do that for me? ;)
hugs,
tina

awww, Billy, you are SUCH a tasty morsel!!! Hey, do you guys think you could rustle up some Damageplan tonight for CFR, just a little snippet, as a remembrance of Darrell?
Thanks for the joy your music brings,
love,

tina! tina!
so sorry about yer yappy dogs probs. And get this!.....where I live, we also suffer from yappy f**kin dog g**ddamn F**kin syndrome. you have my empathy X 100, believe me.
funnily enough, my neighbor has a dog that doesnt know that it can shut its f**king trap any time it decides......'it' apparently doesn't have the congnitive capacity to realize it. It yelps at all times of the goddamn f**kin sonsabitchin EARLY morning aaand at night.....the little sod that it is, and what a great owner person 'x' is to not really give two shits about the neighbors that her dog is pissing off!
im no kidnapper either though, but i'd be willing to steal your ears, ....but maybe earplugs would work the same majik....
and i love dogs, well hounds actually, scottish deerhounds in particular, they are pure love, pure pure, and very intelligent, and quiet, and they rarely bark,....just like any scot, you piss them off bad enough, and they'll bark haha adn so just incase i haven t made my ranting point, love em- just not yappy ones, man they yelp at the wind changing, its just not right. ;p
ps: yeah, ive been drinking coffee
hi Bill.
