DIMEBAG DARRELL - RIP

DarrellWhat can I say. Shot dead while standing on a stage, doing what he loved to do. I'm still in shock that this happened, and all I know right now is that Rock Music has just lost one of its most talented and productive characters. It doesn't matter if you liked Pantera or DamagePlan - what matters is that someone who spent their life playing guitar and making other people relate to their music is gone. And I also don't quite understand how someone can go to a concert and kill a member of the band .... ONSTAGE. Why do we have Security at shows? How did the guy get in the place with a gun? I am sure that these questions and many more will rage for a long while. Right now I dont feel like the usual light-hearted post, so it can all wait until tomorrow. Today, all I have to say is Dimebag - RIP.

Peace

Billy,

Echo your sentiments on Dime, a huge loss.

I've heard the guy bypassed security by jumping a fence & sneaking in a back door to the venue. And that he was angry over the Pantera split? What the hell was on his mind?! Jeez, it's only a rock band! You can listen to music & appreciate & love it & feel like you can't live without it - that's the beauty of it. When a band breaks up you get upset or angry or whatever & then you go on - not go haywire like this guy did. What sad state was he in that he had nothing else to occupy his time & thoughts, you know? Not sympathizing by any means, just asking WTF?! Sorry I'm ranting but this is just so upsetting & it's hard to stop thinking "WHY?!" I didn't know any of the guys from Pantera, etc., but this could have easily happened to people I DO know & that scares the shit out of me. I haven't heard any DamagePlan but listened to Pantera since Cowboys from Hell. Darrell was talented & from what I've been reading was a hell of a nice guy, to boot. I'm sure the other guys were as well. This is so tragic. Where the FUCK was security at the back door?! Sorry for the rant, Billy. :( RIP Dimebag.

It's a pretty crazy world.

It seems that not only is it a crazy world, but a scary one. You can't even go to a concert and have fun without something horrible happening. This is so tragic. I wasn't particularly a Pantera fan, but the fact that this happened...it just saddens me.

Wow. What can anyone say. I can't believe someone would do such a thing. Everyone has lost something today. Music is sacred and someone just hauled off and desecrated the entire sanctity of it, not just one venue and not just a few people. Music is a unifier. What part of that did this guy miss ???? And why ??? I'm just shocked and our world is most defenitely altered. I grew up in little clubs where there was no official security because who ever would have thought we needed it. I guess those days just ended. RIP DD Peace......

Billy,

I am with you... I am not my light hearted self today. One of my good friends was the biggest pantera / damageplan fan I have ever seen and he was woken up at 3 am to this news by a friend of his. He spent the rest of the night in tears. How can someone do this, and WHY?

if this is what the world is coming to "God Take me home NOW"

I saw Pantera back in 2000...and I think about it now and all I can say is, I'm glad I had the chance to see a great guitar player and person do what he loves to do: play music.

I don't know what more I can say...

See ya when I get there, Dimebag...

Whenever something truly tragic like this happens I think most of us are all of mixed emotions. Sadness and Grief for Dimebag, to Anger and Hatred toward the gunman and the venue's security. We try to make sense of it all and can easily end up playing the blame game. All we do know and should focus on is the world has lost a genuine human being who really enjoyed life and living it every day, and our memory of him should be kept that way.

Peace to Dimebag, his friends and family.
