ANGEL DUST
Hi everyone. So last night was a huge success. The Falcon on Sunset was packed, and I think the Charity did really well. I had been asked to put an acoustic band together for 6 or 7 songs, and so the usual suspects were gathered together for a quick soundcheck yesterday afternoon. Billy Duffy, Chris Chaney, Donovan Leitch, Jerry Cantrell, Michael Des Barres, Leif Garrett, Doheny's own Mr Jon Clayden and Yours Truly. I asked Dave, but unfortunately, he is really busy with stuff right now and was unable to attend. We ran through each song twice, but the dinner that they had laid on for us was calling loudly, so we abandoned trying to get it all sounding wonderful, and sat down to eat instead!!
The stage was covered in white candles and red rose petals - it looked amazing. At 9.00pm, we kinda ambled up on the stage and sat down - three acoustic guitars, one acoustic bass, some singers and our friend Gregg on percussion.
It actually sounded really cool. We opened with Bowie's Ziggy Stardust, into Alice In Chains Got Me Wrong, and then into an amazing version of The Cults Rain. Jon then came up onto the stage (I had taught Jerry, Billy and Chris the Doheny song, Dust) and we started playing. I was really nervous to see how our song sat in the set with all those great rock songs. And to my suprise, it went down a storm. Jon sang his ass off, Jerry and Billy sounded great doing their thing on Dust, and the audience hooted and hollered when we were done. Quite a special moment, being able to do a Doheny song with those guys.
The rest of the set was Bowie's Jean Genie, Velvet Underground's White Light, and a killer version of The Stone's Dead Flowers, that I sang with Mr Des Barres doing all the R+B high harmonies. It was a great night, we all had a lot of fun, and hopefully we were able to help some people who are not as fortunate.
LOVED your comments on pick-up lines. Personally, I was always straight up when I was single. "Excuse me. Don't get any ideas about commitment or anything....but would you be interested in a one-night only performance of Supreme Carnal Lust?" No wonder they all hated me!! But it was fun to read all your posts. And I agree - "Would you like a Starbucks?" is a winner for sure!!
I have a day of meetings today. I meet with photographer Robert Knight, to get all the proofs from the Doheny shoot last week, and I meet with the Key Club people about the show in a few weeks. Then I go to Indie 103.1 to organize the CFR show archives to be sent to the UK for Total Rock Radio. I do know that managers should do all this stuff, but I am a total control freak, and if I don't understand every detail, I think that things will go wrong - (and they usually do!) So I am the guy that gets involved, takes the meetings, makes sure he knows how its all coming together. That way, if its a disaster, I only have myself to blame. If any of you think I just step onto a stage and play the songs, think again!!
Have a great day everyone. The doors are open for more artwork, rogues gallery pics (dont think thats really working as I had imagined - maybe we should lose it.) and versions of the new logo. Jon and I talked about doing some trucker hats with the logo on them for merchandise - whaddya think? Its your family - do with it as you will. Till tomorrow.......
Peace
Billy

Hi Billy. I am so pleased the acoustic night went well. It sounds
like it went down really well. Congrats on that. Glad the charity did well. It's great what you all do as CF for charity. Would have loved to seen and heard all of you acoustic.
lmao at your sheer gall honesty pick up line.
What did you imagine the Rogues Gallery as being? I sort of remember you mentioned pics of ppl in Doheny t-shirts?
Maybe at shows right?
Hey family, hope you are all well. I'll check back in in a while.
Love and hugs
Lisa xxxx

Trucker hats? Not so much.
Black knit caps with the Doheny logo? Sounds a winner to me. But then I'm up in the cold northeast and knit caps are my winter headgear of choice. :-)

I hate trucker hats.
Posted by: zannebee at November 11, 2004 10:34 AM
Sorry Billy, I agree with Zannebee about the trucker hats. Unless, of course, there is an option for us females. I like the knit cap idea because I am also a north-easter and need to keep my head warm in the winter months. I personally love rings, it would be cool to make that dh logo onto a ring. It could also work for necklaces too...Anyway, sounds like it was a kick ass show. Wish I could have seen it! And about the Rogues Gallery--it seems many of us must be camera shy. It would be cool for the west coast fans to post some concert shots for those of us who haven't gotten to see any shows (yet). I am curious though, what did you have in mind Billy? I would love to help out any way I could.

Trucker hats are the hip thing though right now.
I got myself a RHCP one at their show.
And all the music mags have them for sale, with bands logos.
Then again "beanies" are in too.
That's it beanies or trucker hats.
The beanie vs trucker cap.
and the winner is...
Posted by: ylais at November 11, 2004 12:22 PM
why not have both and then you can please everyone. beanies or trucker caps, eithers ok.

I'd prefer to see some FlexFit caps, rather than trucker hats. I think the Trucker hats thing is a fashion phase that will disappear soon.

Hiya guys & gals! Just delurking to throw my 2 cents out there, in case anyone needs an extra 2 cents - actually I have few original thoughts to add right now (due to major lack of sleep thanks to a sick 7yr old :( - I'm so tired I could cry like a baby) so I'm just gonna agree with:
El - you took the words right out of my mouth about the Sanctuary thing - some things truly are sacred
Jules - merchandise - I like the dh jewelry thing - it would look good as a silver pendant, don't ya think? As to the question of knit cap or trucker hat, I'd definitely go with the knit cap cuz it's getting cold here in PA and I look good in a black knit cap, but I suppose as long as the headgear of choice isn't the doheny "bandanna" (you know what I'm talking about), I'm sure I can live with it.
And Billy, thanks again for taking time out of your day to do this for us.
Oh, and does today's b&w photo strike anyone else as sorta funny? Billy and Jon (or hon if you're heidi)look cool, as usual, but Jerry looks like a teenager with his new guitar, searching for the right chord, and Duffy's got the devil in him - look at those eyes!

I am NEVER gonna live down the 'hon' thing, am I?? LMAO
As for Sanctuary, some things ARE sacred. Even tho I like Mike Peters, it still gives me the heebeejeebies. It's just wrong.
Please don't go with the trucker hats Billy. Go with a TOQUE (that's Canadian speak for what the Americans out there call a beanie) Us girls in the north need to keep our heads warm and STYLISH. Trucker hat just doesn't say stylish to me. It says 50-year old red-neck trucker...LOL...funny how that works.... :P

NOOOOOOO, Trucker hats are SO last summer, dude....knit caps never go out of style, and are cheaper!! One size fits all...
Hi Abby!! Billy, are you going to be at Dave's gig on Tuesday, just to check it out?

Enough with this tomfoolery! I'd like to see Courtney doing Sanctuary. It would be fun, which is what CF is all about. Human beings playing music and having a good time.
It aint that sacred! Shit, if Sanctuary can be featured on... let's see...a Nissan commercial, a Labatt's commercial, a Lucozade commercial, aBewley's commercial, etc. etc., then surely Courtney Love can get up on stage with the likes of Duffy, Morrison, Navarro, etc. and bust it out.

Ladies?? Does bobbi O need to come and be sacrificed on the Cult altar? LMAO!
Bobbi O - let us all just be crazy...trust me, it' much easier that way *wink*
Posted by: flamingheart at November 12, 2004 09:13 AM
What on earth is a "Flexi Fit" cap? oo
All this different terminology for such a basic thing as a hat!
Okay, fave hat type people. What is it? Tell us what it is in "Yankee" speak too. :D
I think most of us have winter on our minds right now, and keeping our ears warm!
I've been so tired this week. I think I am going into hibernation.
:S

FH, a sacrifice upon the Cult altar may be a little harsh, but I wouldn't rule out a few good whacks with the Spoon

grrrrr
Posted by: bobbi O at November 12, 2004 01:34 PM
Billy,
In the name of good fashion sense, NO TRUCKER HATS.
Passe', last year, played out et. al.
Another line of thinking on Courtney doing Sanctuary with the CF gang, any well educated Cult fan knows Ian has been enamored with Ms. Love for years. In an interview done in '96 on The Holy Barbarians tour, he waxed poetically about her going as far as calling her the "Joan Of Arc" of rock. High praise indeed.
This being said, I do believe CL is more than qualified to have a go at it.
Great singers doing great songs is a good thing.
Thanks,
Jay

I dunno..but i find it so funny that this board has become a discussion mainly about trucker hats, and beanies. lmao. :D
I guess where I live is backward, we don't give a fuck if it's passe.
I didn't even know it was. Must be an LA (Or USA) thang.
Oh god, I can't wear my RHCP trucker hat anymore, it's out of fashion. ARGHHH!
I better tell their management, how dare they sell trucker hats in 2004, that's so last summer.
(Okay, sorry, for that, I am being a facetious bitch. I can do that now I'm 38 you see. They have a show called Grumpy Old Men in the UK; and I always think I should be on it; yet I'm a woman. Oh yeah, John Peel was on it. Bless him.)
Better go have a few cups of tea.

Billy~What kind of plectrum do you use?
Thanks Lisa xxxx
Got my cup of tea now. :D
