ROGUES GALLERY

DohenyflowerGood morning everyone. I am up late today so its a quick one. I wanted to say that the idea of a Rogues Gallery - pics of all the family members - is a great one. I'll start a new gallery if I get enough pics. How about downloading the Doheny Dice from the site - www.dohenymusic.com - and sticking it somewhere and taking a snapshot of you by it? Email me your snaps (and wear your Doheny tee ...... whaddya mean, you dont have one yet??!! GO GET ONE NOW!!) and we'll start a family photo album.

Check out Tina's new artwork (todays pic) - very San Francisco circa 1968 - I love it!! And a huge thank you to Karen for sending me the Chiefs Of Relief CD. I will play a track from it on Saturdays CF Radio Show.

I have to get outta here and get going - I want to do a question and answer chat online at some point. Does anyone have any ideas how to do that? Also - If any of you fancy trying your hand at designing a logo for Doheny, feel free. Its hard, I know, but I would be interested to see what you came up with. And finally, a quick question - What song should Doheny cover? I'm not promising we will do it, but we have been toying with the idea of doing our own version of a cover song. Lets see what you think.

Sorry its so short today, but I will be back tomorrow with a full update of the week.
Have a great day

Billy

I think either:
Heartbreaker - Led Zepp or
Karma Chameleon - Culture Club

Just think about it.

Yeah, Billy, you posted at last! Thanks!
Great artwork today. Really stunning.

Posted by: ylais at October 6, 2004 11:52 AM

I'm putting my thinking cap on for cover song.

Posted by: ylais at October 6, 2004 11:53 AM

How about something by The Stranglers?

Posted by: ylais at October 6, 2004 11:55 AM

The Raven? ;)

Posted by: ylais at October 6, 2004 11:57 AM

or "Who Wants the World?"..there are too many Stranglers songs to choose from....but those two songs are excellent. I don't think anyone has covered them?

Posted by: ylais at October 6, 2004 12:11 PM

What about The End of the World by REM. That song is just aching for a heavy guitar line.

Okay, everyone beat me up, because I loathe REM. O.o and beat me up again because I feel the same way about Karma Chameleon. Go ahead. I'm ready, kick my arse.

Posted by: ylais at October 6, 2004 12:31 PM

Eh, I don't like Karma Chameleon either.

OH OH, once I saw Soul Asylum and they did "Knock Three Times" by Tony Orlando and Dawn, that was fun... and funny.

Posted by: Suzanne at October 6, 2004 12:40 PM

Suzanne, what a relief, to meet someone else who doesn't like that song! :D :wipes brow:

rofl, i just typed whips brow, then though huh that doesn't look right?

Posted by: ylais at October 6, 2004 12:52 PM

OK, don't give me crap about Karma...I think it would be sooo funny to see. What about something by the Buzzcocks?

Posted by: Stacy at October 6, 2004 01:16 PM

How about a Sex Pistols cover? Not sure which song though, I haven't listened to them in a while. For some reason David Bowie - China Girl keeps sticking in my head.

Posted by: Karen at October 6, 2004 02:06 PM

Yay! Fan photo gallery! Sounds great. If Doheny covers a Sex Pistols song I would choose either Submission or Pretty Vacant. I think those two are my favorite. And if you're going to do Led Zep, I'm thinking "Dazed and Confused". If it's going to be David Bowie, I'd go with "Ashes to Ashes" (love that song)--maybe sort of a rocked out version? Or maybe "Revenge" by Generation X...so many good songs to cover.. Anyway, if you want to try to get a chat in order (which would be very fun) I am wondering if we can do something through Cultweb. There is a chat room there.

I think it should be something totally off the wall. I don't know what yet....

Posted by: Suzanne at October 6, 2004 03:11 PM

i think a cover george baker selection's 'little green bag' would be interesting to say the least.

btw, i have a soul asylum single with a live version of 'to sir with love' as the b-side. and it's pretty damn good.

I'd like to see you guys do a little appetite-era GnR...may seem a bit off the wall...but I think you guys could rock it for sure!!!

Posted by: Abby at October 6, 2004 05:35 PM

Thanks billy and ylais for the compliment on my artwork. Billy I'm not even going to mention any kind of cover song, it might keep you off the island forever after my cd choice have you making a run for it. LOL

A live chat would be great, maybe Karen can help you set a chat room up for Doheny so we can chat anytime with other family members ;) and you and the other bandmembers can drop in whenever you have a few spare moments. Pretty cool!

Ta,
tina

oh yeah, I did have something else to say (can you imagine)

Since you're all thinking of doing a cover, has Sean picked an Elvis song yet? ;)

Posted by: tina at October 6, 2004 06:08 PM

Did we ever resolve the whole Doheny t-shirt size issue?
hmm..
covers covers covers..let's see.
Miss Misery - Nazareth
Black Licorice - Grand Funk Railroad
Rough Boys - Pete Townsend
Jail Break - Thin Lizzy
Move to The City - Guns and Roses
Viva La Rock - Matt Sorum

Posted by: electric mayhem at October 6, 2004 07:47 PM

Nazareth would be good, or
Cheap Trick - I Want You To Want Me.

Posted by: Karen at October 6, 2004 08:51 PM

No covers on a proper album Billy, maybe a B side or in a live setting, just not on a record.

That said, how bout a Les Paul through Marshall stacks rocked up version of Echo And The Bunnymen's "Lips Like Sugar"???

Posted by: Jay at October 6, 2004 09:01 PM

Lol to the Echo and the Bunnymen idea Jay, good one. That I would like to see, and hear.

Billy~you're in trouble. :P I've spent a couple of hours or more doodling possible Doheny logos. I'm a doodler, and that suggestion of yours set me off.

Really, it's so cool of you to let people give it a try. I love this place!
