NASCAR
Today is the Camp Freddy show at the Nascar race in Fontana. We are playing at around 6.30pm on the infield at the California Speedway. By all accounts, the event is huge - 200,000 people attend the race (although I am sure our show will be in a little fenced off portion of the infield!!) so it should be a great day out. I know that we will be broadcasting an extra hour of Camp Freddy Radio tonight from 5.00pm to 6.00pm (if the technology works!) so tune in early tonight. We'll play some songs, interview our guests, and try and talk to some of the race car drivers if we can. Its going to be a long day, but if yesterdays rehearsal is anything to go by, the band will be great - Steven Perkins was fantastic behind the kit, and all the guests rocked out - we sounded loud!! Unfortunately, Jon will not be singing with us today - he is unable to make it. I'm bummed, as I love being onstage in Doheny with him, and when he has done CF shows in the past, he has nailed every note. But this time, we have to do it without him.
The good news is that the three new tracks that Jon and I have been working on for Doheny are all coming together nicely. There is one called "Does It Really Matter?" that particularly rocks - I'd like to try and get a small clip of us rehearsing it to give you all a taste. I'll see if we can figure that out.
Julia - Just keep writing music and dont think about being paid. Let your passion and emotion speak in the song and keep doing it every day. And by the way - All of David Bowies early Ziggy stuff was written solely on a piano.
Abby - Yes, it was me on Dave's site! And YES!! Ebay works on the phone as well. So you are right - now I am in serious trouble as I can buy more Nike's as I sit outside Starbucks getting more and more loaded on coffee!!!
Caine - I dont know anyone from the current G'n'R line up, but funnily enough, someone called me a few weeks back to ask me if I was interested in auditioning for the band as a guitarist! I politely turned it down!! To start with, my heart and soul is in Doheny, and secondly, I just cant play like I am sure they would want me to......Billy Morrison attempting a Slash solo is pretty funny!!! I've always said that I am 100% Steve Jones, NOT Steve Vai!! (For the non-players reading this, that means that I am primarily a rhythm player, not a lead player)
I have to stop typing and get in the shower - we leave soon, so have a great holiday weekend, and I will see you soon.
Peace
Billy

Hey Billy--thanks for the encouragement. I do write for myself and the passion of it and the excitement I get from creating a new sound--not about the money (or lack thereof), although it is important to love your job which is why I will be going to grad school one of these days to become a therapist. But this does bring up a question for me--how does one get started recording their own music? It seems like it would be difficult especially when you don't have all the resources (ie--equipment). Well, have fun at Nascar and thanks again for the advice :)

Hey Billy
My informants in the south called me up to tell me what a great show it was (I'm crying in my drink because I missed it - lol) It sounds like you guys had a really good time.
Maybe we can see some pics from the gig if you have any...

Billy,
2 things if you would, first, how 'bout a setlist and guest info from NASCAR CF?
Any more info on the GNR audition invitation or was it just a phone call kind of deal? Just imagine how much shit you'd get from Sorum if you would have accepted.
Have a good Sunday!
