DOHENYMUSIC.COM

ChurchsignI go away for two days, and the blog is overrun by garters, socks and Kenny Rodgers!!! You guys are hilarious.....some of those links are just WRONG!!! And yes - I would imagine that the guys playing golf at the weekend were all wearing those things.....no danger of me ever taking that up!!

So Billy Idol rocked the house at the Inland Invasion. Steve Stevens (apart from being a good friend) is one of the best guitar players I've ever watched. And those guys have written hit after hit. We didn't stay for Siouxie, as she is playing in LA this week, so I'll go see her play there. Instead, we hit the road and went down to Palm Springs to have a couple of days R+R. Saw the most amazing lightning storm on the way too - it lasted about two hours. No thunder, just constant flashing - the sky was completely clear except for the one heavy storm cloud over the desert that was just lit up with this mad electrical energy. I kept expecting to see a huge alien mothership rise out of the cloud!!
Sunday was all good times - The Raiders won their game, I posted here from my cellphone (that still blows me away that I can do that!) and I pissed some golfers off. A very satisfactory day.

Yesterday was a long one - drove in from P.S. and went straight to Doheny rehearsals. We continued to work on new stuff - started messing about with Does It Really Matter again - another fast song, kinda like Helmet meets Foo Fighters. I'm looking forward to that one coming together. After rehearsals, I went to play cards with some friends, and finally got to bed around 1.00pm.

The main Doheny website has had a great overhaul - check it out at www.dohenymusic.com. The pages look really good, the video is now up on the media page....the whole thing looks great.

Buddy - One of the most memorable show has to be playing the main stage at Reading Festival in the UK with The Cult. Looking out and not being able to see where the people ended was an amazing feeling. Although the first Doheny show at the Viper Room in LA (FINALLY getting the band onto a stage and playing the songs live) felt pretty fucking cool too.

So thats it from me - glad to be back and doing my morning post thing. I missed it over the weekend. Keep smiling, and I'll be back tomorrow. Check out the 'Your Artwork' page - you guys have really been busy, and I love it all (big shout out to Dave - the Rubiks cube is genius). What about the Chuch pic Ive used as todays picture?.....Absolutely hilarious!!! Well done girls. Hope you all have a great day.
Peace

Billy

Just HAD to post before I went out the door today (as I said, I am hopelessy addicted to this blog). What songs did Billy play? I was listening to Whiplash Smile a lot in the last few days and was thinking how much I'd love to hear "Sweet Sixteen", "Soul Standing By" and "One Night, One Chance" live...Oh..and especially "Shooting Stars" from the self titled album...Yeah, I was an even bigger Idol fan when I was 12, I was about ten years too late (not my fault I wasn't born yet...)
Glad you had a relaxing weekend too :)

Billy,

You mentioned the Reading show with The Cult which got me wondering what your views were concerning Astbury's continued Doors involvement and his general lack of interest in The Cult at the present time.
Being a friend and former member of the band itself, could you provide some insight from a better perspective for us?

Thank you,
Jay

Hi Billy~ Are you going to "The Drapes" show tonight?
I'm wishing I were over there for it and I'm waiting to see how the show went for the band, and of course to hear from Dave, and Panic Agents all about it. Pretty exciting! :D

I'm from Reading, but living in Wales now, and lived in USA, oh man well all over, and London too.
What year did you play Reading? I think I must have been over in the States then. I saw The Cult in NYC but it's bugging me so much that I can't think of the name of the place.

I was wondering too about Ian fronting The C21st Doors. My 14 year old son wanted to see them this past summer, he's into the Doors, and plays guitar really well. I looked into trying to get to take him, and it felt so odd with Ian being part of the Doors, and my son being so into them, after I was so wild over The Cult.

Okay having to shut myself up now! My son being into this stuff gives me flashbacks! :D

Thanks for telling us about Billy and Steve Stevens, yeah he's a fantastic guitarist and great live!

Also, looking forward to hearing Does it Really Matter with "Helmet influence."

Lots of love
Lisa

hey billy, I've just seen the Cult portion of the Reading Festival and you, the band AND the audience looked like you were having a blast. ;)

The artwork is totally awesome, love it all, the band has some pretty artistic fans I'd say. heh Also, checked out the main sight and it does look fab. Whoever's taking care of it is doing an excellent job of it.

Well that's it for me, now that I'm off strike and back to work I don't have enough time to play as I would like. ;) Oh well can't have everything.

toodles,
tina

Billy, can you tell me what the difference is between an original cd and a remastered one? What do they do different to the remastered, because it sounds different than the original? Why are a lot of older cd's re-released as remasters?

I just got some new cd's that are remastered versions, and was wondering what the difference was.

Thanks, :-)
Karen

Karen....I'm sure there's a difference..but don't you ever think its some sort of gimick to get you to buy another one of the CD you already have!!! LOL....I mean you're sittin there listening to your CD and you don't notice anything wrong...then you see that they've come out with a "remastered" version!!! Then the dilema...is it really any better??? Anywho... thats just my cynical side I suppose!

Posted by: Abby at September 22, 2004 06:13 PM

Abby, I wouldn't buy a remastered version if I already had the original. Yeah, my thoughts exactly, is it really any better?

Posted by: Karen at September 22, 2004 07:09 PM

Oh, but when they are 'remastered' and re-released with some new gimmick like a 'cardboard sleeve' on the Japanese import, how can a true junkie resist??

(Yes, I'm a sucker...broke, but happy)
