ANOTHER STUDIO POST

DohenysaGuess what? I’m in a recording studio!! Now THERE’s something different. I am in with Mike Clink, working on the Camp Freddy record. We have another guest in today – I’m going to keep it all under wraps from now on, so that the record is a nice surprise when it comes out (whenever that is!!). Suffice to say that I have, yet again, got the greatest job in the world. Sitting on a couch watching another genius guitar player work their magic on a Camp Freddy track.
And tonight, the New York Dolls play at The Avalon in Los Angeles. A much anticipated show, even though there are only two remaining original members left. They are one of the few bands that it was impossible for me to see back then, so I kinda have to go. Fingers crossed that they don’t let us all down.

Now then – you guys have made me so happy with all the posts that I am going to attempt to answer and respond to everything. So here goes…….

Lisa – Yeah. I love touring. No responsibilities, lots of different cities, different things to see and do. But I always miss home when I am out there. Karen and FlamingHeart – I have to say that the comforts on the road are pretty cool. Always an X-Box or a Playstation, TV, DVD player – plus I take all my toys with me. The laptop, DV camera, plus on the Cult tour I had a remote control car, a BB gun…all manner of things to keep me amused. On the other hand, when Doheny hit the road, I somehow doubt it will be as luxurious!! But there will always be a Starbucks in every town to give me a personality.

Ylais – I actually formed Camp Freddy with Dave and Donovan nearly three years ago. I had the idea years ago in the UK, and when my time in the Cult was up, I figured it would be fun to do. Donovan, Matt and Dave were friends and it seemed a fun thing to do. And my stint in the Cult was thanks to Billy Duffy putting me up for the job when the band went out on the road for the Beyond Good And Evil world tour. Finally – I live in LA because ……ITS SUNNY HERE!!!

The whole sad song thing is hilarious…..believe it or not, I have many!! The Quireboys “I don’t love you anymore” is always good for a sad moment, - David Bowie’s “Rock N Roll Suicide” is a biggie for me. And you know what….Fall To Pieces strikes a few chords with me too. Great song.

Tina – I am an open book when it comes to my favourite song of all time. It is, without doubt, God Save The Queen, by the Sex Pistols. The most powerful and poigniant 3 minute pop song of all time.

Julia – You know – it might have been the Clash, until Joe died. Personally, I think the newer bands need more of a shot these days……although a full G’n’R reunion line up would be pretty cool.

That’s it from me – (and by the way…The Two Billys Tour would be great – I’ll tell Billy we should get it going!!)
Take care and I’ll be back soon.

Billy

Billy,

Cool about The Dolls tonight, enjoy.

Who's taking Thunders spot?? With that in mind, what's your take on him and his playing? I'm was/is a big fan of it...

Thanks,
Jay

AWE MAN!!! I really wanted to go t o the Dolls show! I had heard about it and was waiting to see if I could convince any of my friends to go...oh well, you'll have to let us know how it is! I never had the chance to see them either...and I think that I have the same concern about being "disappointed"....but I think it will be great. Please tell us what they play :)

And I have to agree that an original GnR show would be great...but I'm afraid that the chemistry would be a bit off and the "magic" of the early days is long gone...but to have the chance to see that chemistry as it was would be the greatest thing ever!

Well...have fun at the show!

I also love "god save the queen" by the sex pistols, it's one of my favs. ;)

Billy--I agree with you wholeheartedly about the newer bands. I love newer bands like Ours and INOUK, but do they get any airplay?! Absolutely not. And because people are willing to buy the crappy bands out there, it pushes the good bands to the way back. I just actually wrote about this subject in my own blog. It took me a few stores just to find the new INOUK cd! Well, now I have the new Doheny stuff to look forward too and it sounds very exciting. Also, a "Tour of Two Billys" would be amazing to see. We miss you two! Let's see names for the tour...well, we've got the one I just mentioned...or I was thinking, "Two Billys are Better Than One Tour", "Two Billys Make a Right Tour", "A Tale of Two Billys Tour"...I am sure there are many more..who else has some?
And we need a big tour bus...the Billys Bus..and like Flamingheart is telling me now, we need a Billy Blogger Bus to follow behind. See Billy--this is what we do in our spare time. And speaking of names, what would the Doheny album be called? (Don't let us think one up, we are liable to name it "Trouser Bananas")

"Revenge of the Billys Tour"

(I put my own blog URL in if anyone cares about my boring life..)

Billy ~ Speaking of tours and buses and blogs, do you still have your Cult tour diaries anywhere? Online? On your hard drive? Saved to CD? Quite entertaining they were. :-)

Posted by: Holly at September 30, 2004 07:13 PM

The Cult tour diaries!! I have been looking around for those for ages. I would love to read them. I missed them when they were at Cultnet...I didn't even know that place existed until it was way too late. It never occured to me earlier to go right to the source and ask...lol. Billy, if you still have those anywhere, I would love to read them too.

Hey Heids.. I think the Witch at cultweb had the archives at one time.

Posted by: Electric Mayhem at September 30, 2004 08:16 PM

once again, billy, i am insanely jealous. the dolls are one of my all-time favourite bands and never seen 'em live, what with being born about 20 years too late. i expect a full report.

man. . .'rock and roll suicide' on the ziggy stardust movie still gives me chills, though that whole thing is brilliant.

and bring on the cult tour diaries!

Posted by: acacia at September 30, 2004 08:25 PM

I think I saved a couple of the tour diaries or maybe more, I don't remember. I'd have to search my old computer's hard drive.

If you have any of the old tour diaries, I wouldn't mind adding them to one of my sites for everyone to read again.

Peace,
Karen

I'm well chuffed you answered my questions, thank you. Those burning questions...:D
Now I have more though.
NY Dolls, also envious. Enjoy. My mind has dulled right now, and I'm trying to think which one of them I saw solo live...help someone! I'll be off googlin again a a few seconds now.
Cult Diaries? That would be awesome to read. I'd love to see those online.
I also thought of The Clash, I did see them though live, but then I felt a bit sad about it not being the original line up. :(
The Sex Pistols I never saw. That would be awesome. I did catch PiL though. GnR too, saw them. Boring aren't I? Wish I'd had the foresight to keep all my ticket stubs.

Bill and Bill The Flower Pot Men. O.o ;P :D?

Phew, got it, now I can rest. It was David Johansen BEFORE the Buster Poindexter era.
Sorry for this, but if I hear "Hot,Hot,Hot" one more time..every wedding, party, pub, holiday...

Ok...is it just me, or is it weird for anyone else to be surfing to random music sites and see quotes off this blog posted there?

We kind of seem like this small community throwing banter back and forth most days, but reading parts of Billy's posts on news sites (and I don't just mean Blabbermouth) shows us that a LOT of people are looking here and reading this.

Kinda strange, but a good thing as it means that this little community is getting a lot of attention...and that's good for Doheny in the long run.

The word is spreading...

Love the new group picture, and add me as a yea for the cult diaries. ;)

Posted by: tina at October 1, 2004 06:44 AM

Billy... did you ever ask about the paintings in the studio??

Posted by: Suzanne at October 1, 2004 10:08 AM

man, we had to take our computer to the computer doctor, so it was gone for about 36 hours, and i was having dohenyblog withdrawal! lmao - maybe i'm the one that needs to visit a doctor!

billy, what does the rest of the band think of the blog? do they think you're crazy for entertaining us with funny games and trying to post from your cell phone? when are they gonna take the plunge & join us?

See, I think a funny thing happened on the way to the Dolls show...

BILLY MORRISON WAS KIDNAPPED BY ALIENS!!

Darn aliens took him out of AT&T's coverage area. He can't even post with his cell...

Hopefully they're not too hard on him with those...probes...lol
